British Championship Heads To Devon

jakc price btc round 5 previewThis Saturday sees riders in the R T Keedwell sponsored ACU British Trials Championships head to South Devon for round 5 of the series. Two things of note the event is on Saturday and the venue is Ruby Rocks not Kelly farm which has been used for several years. The two venues are close geographically but not at all alike in terms of the type of hazards.

Ruby Rocks can be found at Bagtor Barton, Islington near to Bickington TQ13 9RT. The roads around the venue can be pretty narrow so give yourself time to get to the venue for the 9.30 start time.

The main Championship is currently being led by Jack Price who has won three of the four events to date. Jack has been very confident all season and he currently holds a 13 point lead over Michael Brown. Brown won round 2 and is a previous British Number 1 so he will make sure his Gas Gas teamster remains vigilant. There is plenty of interest throughout the entry however Jack Sheppard has been very consistent all season, Dan and Jack Peace are both in good form as is Iwan Roberts. Local Toby Martyn on the Vertigo is improving round on round so the competition could be fierce.

In the Expert Class James Fry holds a small lead over Richard Sadler with Dan Thorpe in third place. Fry might be slight favourite with the stream and banks at Ruby Rocks but there is the option of another local rider stealing the thunder. Joe Baker does not do the series but he rode the St David’s and won and he was bought up on the type of going that they will encounter this weekend.

There is a new star in the Youth A class with Beta's Billy Green winning all four of the rounds held to date. Billy has simply been superb and he now holds a 16-point lead over Josh Hanlon with Duncan MacColl in third. Josh was a little closer to Billy at Scarborough but Green was still a clear winner.
