Youth A&B Championship Finale

toby martyn youth b 2014Toby MartynIt hardly seems twenty-nine weeks since Kirkbymoorside farmer’s son Dan Peace won the Otter Vale club’s opening A-C.U. British Youth Championship trial at Sidbury. The six footer dominated four events in the next six trials halted only by Telford’s Tom Minta and pressured also by Porlock’s former Class B champion Tom Hooper and his MRS Sherco.

Hooper took four visits to the second step of the rostrum and third place behind the ever present Minta at Stevenston two weeks ago. Sadly, his other notable visit was to the Kilmarnock Hospital and its efficient Accident and Emergency unit.

The knee ligament and shoulder injuries have ruled the Somerset teenager out of Sunday’s action on the unforgiving hardware at Bracken Rocks. With Peace unassailable there was little to be gained and a five hundred mile round trip for farmers April and Delwyn Hooper.

Yorkies Michael Todd and Tom Alderson will fight for the fourth place finishing position mindful that Glasgow’s Lewis Bryron could just upset the plans.

Class A may be a wrap for one Peace but the other member of the family, Jack, has a battle on his hands. Truro RCM Beta contender Toby Martyn only got his nose in front after Stafford’s Sam Yeomans fared well below his standards at Sevenston on the opening day and scored just ten points while Martyn ruled the roost. Dunfermline’s Joe Dawson excelled with a fine second place to drop into fourth spot in the standings ahead of an absent Sam Johnson.

The latter has elbow problems that will require surgery. George Marsham and Tom Culliford will likely climb the points table while Bradford’s Keiran Child could just spoil their plans. Child has ridden only four championship trials but he has become a real giant slayer in trials in his home county. Adults and youths have been toppled in recent trials.

Mansfield Maun has maintained the three lap twelve section format marked out by Terry Crabtree deputy Clerk of Course Andy Land. The results team of Judy Black, Sharon Bown, Claire and Freyer Land will work on the results. Maxine Caterers will be in parc ferme to dispense breakfasts. Note though, no overnight camping. Full permanent toilet facilities at the venue.
