Loughborough Trials Club September Trial

loughboroughFollowing close on the heels of its most successful Susan Harris Memorial trial to date back in August, Loughborough Trials Club went back to running the normal club championship programme with an event on Sunday 20th September.

The trial opened with Club Chairman Richard Hodges welcoming the large entry to the Riley's railway venue and confirming that once again the Susan Harris Trial had seen selected charities benefit to the tune of £1300, a fantastic effort by this small club.

The trial was run in perfect conditions and in keeping with the club's ethos of giving the clubman level rider a great day out most of the routes were taken on low scores by the best riders while the lower order riders did not finish the day on cricket scores.

The hard route was a battle royal between winner Billy Craig with two single dabs, second placed Adam Brown making a welcome return to Loughborough club events on three and Matt Dixon having his best ride for some time on five.

The 50/50 was a straight shoot-out between "the older guy on the new bike" and "the young guy on the old bike", in this version mature Ian Margetts held off Olly Wareing on his immaculate Fantic T/S

The middle route was just as tight as the hard with Tim Gent holding on with a single dab for victory from Peter Ablewhite and Jim York both on two and separated by furthest clean. This well supported route ranged from single figures to a recent England innings (well almost).

An equally good turnout on the easy route was even tighter with Michael Smalley and Gary Hall both loosing seven marks and being separated by single dabs, the result going Michael's way. Speedway referee Jim Lawrence managed a credible 5th place and for once had a day out with motorcycles at which he was not abused by the spectators! The same could not however be said for Olly on the 50/50 who having made the decision to step up and test himself had to suffer abuse all day long for not launching his early 80's Fantic at the two foot off the ground suspended branch on section 9 that the experts on modern steeds were making light of. I am sure he will remind those responsible when he gets chance.

Another great day for this small club who have their next event at Scalford in Leicestershire on October 18th
