Isle of Wight MCC Ted Phillips Cup Trial

isle of wight mccThe Ted Phillips Cup was held at Godshill Park Farm courtesy of Angus Baird. The Club would like to thank Angus for welcoming us back to this brilliant venue. On behalf of everyone I would also like to thank today’s course setters: Nick Symes, Stewart Freeman, Brian Brockwell and Andy Scott-Jackson (main routes) Also to Phil Silvester, Harvey Grieve & Ross Haydon for the beginner routes.

The Club would like to welcome back to trialling Jim West, Shaun Harris and John Death. Jim went head to head with Brother Will in the Expert class. Jim pushed quite hard and for a while found himself in front. However it was ‘match fit’ Will that took the honours, sections seven & eight proving to make all the difference.

Meanwhile Shaun Harris returned to winning ways with some real solid riding to take the Clubman class from John Death in second and Mark ‘kickstart’ Gray in third. Only four marks separated these three – good effort by each of them.

Things are really hotting up in the Novice class between Paul Kent & Brian Brockwell. It was Paul that took the win today (from Brian) with an excellent performance, on today’s tricky course. Brian however is leading the Championship by five points from Paul with just three rounds to go – the Championship may well be decided at the final round!

The Twinshock class was convincingly taken by Nick Symes with rival Stewart Freeman in second. Nick did however lose more than just a few marks after emerging from the difficult section seven – with only half a rear mudguard and just to make matters worse he also managed to destroy his rather expensive pair of designer sunglasses - good effort Nick!

Phil Silvester took another ten Championship points in the Adult Beginners with a confident ride. Harvey Grieve sealed the Championship win (Youth Beginner class) today with three rounds to spare! Harvey is looking forward to stepping up to the Youth Novice class for the remaining rounds in preparation for next year – good effort Harvey, keep it up. Alfie Haydon can sleep well tonight after another really good score taking the win in the Youth Small Wheel class. Dad Ross will probably also sleep well after running around behind Alfie all afternoon!

The next Club Trial is only a week away – Sunday 1st November at 12 noon. We are awaiting confirmation for the venue, check the website  – We will update once we have the details.
