Scots Kick off 2016 Championship

A gloomy Craiglash Quarry held the first round round of the 2016 Scottish Trials Championship hosted by the Bon Accord Club on Sunday. The gloomy day was highlighted by the feeling of loss following the death of Martin Lampkin with a minute's silence being held before the start of the trial as a mark of respect to the former World Champion.

This years combined championship has lost both twin shock and Pre 65 Classes to their own specific championship however a bouyant entry of 108 riders took to the start. The red Adult Championship route was won by Gary MacDonald on 16 marks, picking up a couple of fives on the slick granite slabs at the top of the loop. There was a very close fight for runner up between Craig Houston and A Class Youth Joe Dawson, Joe getting the nod on most cleans rule.

The Sportsman route was won by Mark McMillan taking the win from practice mate Phil MacRae by two cleans after tying on 26 marks. Jack Dignan took third on 30. The new Sportsman Over 40 class only attracted three riders and was won by Tony Mower from Duncan Mitchell and Ralph Yeaman Snr. On the Green Route David Hollands took the Clubman class with Allister Stewart taking the Over 40's in a close fight with Bill Ross. North East England's Paul Battensby took the Over 50's Class from George Houston.
