NBBC Poachers Bag Road Trial

poachers pre 65Poachers Pre 65 Classic Trials Club hosted the first round of the NBBC road trial last Sunday, starting and finishing a 22 mile lap of the picturesque Lincolnshire Wolds from Smiths Farm, Withcall. The Trial consisted of 34 sections set over 12 groups. Section setting teams had been out over previous weekends but overnight rain on Saturday did have an effect on a couple of sections making them a little tougher than intended.

Clubman route winner Phil Clarkson on his C15 had a very steady ride dropping just five single dabs, the majority of these within  the first few groups. Last years winner Andy Webbe had an unexpected five at Biscathorpe followed by a missed section that put him out of contention. Clarkson's nearest rivals, Pre-unit clubman riders Steve Cordon and Rob Smart both lost seven marks followed by Brent Cordon on nine. The rest of the clubmen returning double figure scores.

Expert laurels went to 2-stroke rider Richard Allen who brought his Dot home for the loss of just one mark.Which in view of the conditions was a fantastic ride for a newcomer to the Lincolnshire round, he was the only expert rider to remain in single figures. His nearest rivals were both Unit Expert class riders: Lennart Frannesjo made the long journey from Sweden to debut at the Poachers Bag and Andrew Scott also put the miles in on his trip down from Lancashire, both to finish on thirteen. Pre-Unit winner John Gornall on the big Norton and Specials Class winner Alan Brown both finished on twenty two marks lost.

Thank you to all the Riders, Observers and Marshals who made it over to Lincolnshire for the first round, also a big thank you to the landowners, especially the Smith family for their hospitality at Withcall. We look forward to seeing you at the next round, Midland Classic on the 17th of April.
