Jack Sheppard Tops British Championship Round 6

Round 6 of the RT Keedwell ACU British Trials Championships took place last Sunday when the Guisborough & District MCC ran the John Hardaker at Mountain Ash, Glaisdale. It was Jack Price who went into last Sunday holding the lead in the Championship class with Michael Brown in second place and Jack Sheppard third. This time it was Jack Sheppard’s turn to take the win. On lap one Jack took the lead early on with just a loss of eleven marks, with only hazard ten putting a five on his punch card. His closest rivals suffered the same problem. There were some superb rides here from Jack Peace with a superb ride for two. Lap two saw Sheppard circulate for eleven once more which was matched by Price. Iwan Roberts was only one mark further back.

With the final 12 sections to go Jack Sheppard was seven marks ahead of his nearest rival. He managed to set the best lap of the day with a loss of just nine which would give him a clear win from Dan Peace who despite losing a five at section 2 was riding superbly. Jack Price made third which was enough for the Gas Gas rider to retain the series lead but Sheppard now lies only six points adrift.

In the Experts it was Richard Sadler who went into the Hardaker leading the class from James Fry and Dan Thorpe. By the end of the day nothing much had changed as Sadler took another win. It was Richard’s first lap which put him in control as he got out of section 3 which defeated all but Hugo Jervis and Luke Walker. At the change of punch card, it was however Emma Bristow who held second on 16 marks lost. Fry really got going after this with two laps for just 8 and 10 marks lost. Sadler remained rock solid with two more steady circuits to keep the Sherco man at bay with Dan Thorpe picking up third two marks ahead of Tom Affleck.

In the Youth A it has been all Billy Green so far with five wins from five rides. It did not turn out to be quite so clear cut for once though.  Duncan MacColl came around after Lap 1 with a three-mark lead over Green after Billy had suffered five stops. Olly Smith on the Oset was in joint second place with Green. Billy then showed everyone just why he is such a class act with a second lap for 18 which pulled him through to the front of the pack. MacColl was not to be outdone however and with a great third lap he would tie on seventy marks lost with Green only to find out the he would have to settle for second on the tie break rule.
