Saddleback East was host to the 18th Annual Dixie Cup and rounds 8 and 9 of the Trials Inc. series. Many of the previous Dixie Cups have been cursed with bad weather, but this year it was sunny and warm. Seventy-two riders competed in some very close battles.

In the Champ class Ron Commo III, who is fresh off competing over seas in World Trials events, won both days with his only competition being the sections. In the Expert class, Ron Commo Jr., easily won both days of competition. It was a great showing for the father-son duo.

One of the better battles of the weekend took place in the Advanced class. The Sprague brothers, Ken and Andy, finished first and second with Ken having 1 point and Andy following closely with 2 points. On day two, Andy stole the win from Joe Klein with 2 clean final loops. Klein, on a borrowed bike, had the lead going into loop 4 but had to settle for second place.

Tim Atkins stopped David Watson’s winning streak. Atkins was on top of the podium both Saturday and Sunday in the Sportsman class. The biggest class of the weekend, the Intermediate class consisted of 11 new riders to the TI series. Several local hare scramblers gave Trials a try on RYP sponsored Shercos with excellent results. Cody Hardesty used his woods skills to take the win on Saturday and Pete Redel was on top Sunday. Hopefully the taste of victory will bring them back for another bite of trials.

Chandler Atkins’ first ride in the Novice class was a good one on Saturday. He won by a good margin over Ian Anderson, another Commo team rider. Youth A had some difficult sections to overcome on Saturday. There were only three cleans on the entire day. Tyler Owen bested Kori Blair who has won 5 of the last 7 events. Jonathan Boehm took a hard earned win on Sunday.
