bump for confirmation! I just ordered a B size piston for my A size cylinder.
This was recomended by Lewisport.
Now (little late) I check the specs in the manual and its showing A is the largest piston, C the smallest!?!?!?
Typo in the manual or is it backwards from every other bike I know of?????
Stuff should be here tomorrow...trials this weekend. So its going in no matter what...but I am going to be upset if I actually got a smaller piston and my bike still rattles...$200 bucks for a piston!!!!!
EDIT: new B piston is in...no more rattle at idle! Still curious if the manual is messed up and A is the smallest????
You can yourself!
If they are not to bad, we use an oil stone (used to sharpen knives it has a flat face) to lightly knock off the highspots.
Put some masking tape on the fork around where your working so you dont nick up a good spot!
You dont want to or have to take it down to the bottom of the gouge!
Just take the highspot/small burrs off. You can polish out with 400/600/1000grit paper.
Easy peasy!
A tiny amount may leak as the seal passes over the low spot you left...but it should amount to next to nadda!
Hmmm bummer! I had the exact opposite with my clutch arm. It was dry and rusty in the cavity, shaft had really bad pitting, pivot bearings totally siezed solid.
Was able to source a work-able bearing from mcmastercarr.com.
New used shaft in great shape from ebay.
Keep at it and keep us posted Im still watching!
Use your feet to balance and steer the bike around.
Practice stopping the front tire in a square marked on the ground then take off again with out touching...stop longer the better you get.
The clutch is your friend, you wont hurt it!
Stand up! Full steering lock figure 8's are great practice.
Go ride!
Couple tricks for a 315 fuel setup.
1. drill a small hole in the choke lever and run a zip tie thru it so you can tug it to turn the choke off instead of fumbling around looking for the small lever. Even with an inline filter (I use one).
2. drill a small hole in the fuel petcock lever and insert a small bolt about an inch long and 1/8 inch diameter thru the hole and then put a nut on it to secure it to the lever....this makes it super easy to turn the gas on n off.
Man that looks factory! Nice!!!!!!!!!
Mine has been getting flogged in the backyard lately.
Gotta random stumble to work out of it...stay tuned on that.
If your sucking dirt past the air filter, this can wreak havoc on your valves.
Tight valve clearance makes 4 strokes a bear to start. Hope this is not the case!
Keep at her!!
That muffler looks like it may be work-able.
I have been riding my 315 too much lately. The rear tire went flat on my TL, think it's jealous.
Im running stock rear sprocket for now. It looked fine. Seemed ok for section riding...could maybe drop a tooth up front.
I used a Michelin Tube style x11. The sidewalls are super soft compared to the tubeless version. May get that next time.
Interesting swingarm mod! Just never know what you will get sometimes!
I am addicted to all things Trials x10 now.
Day started early got to the site at about 8:15. Gave us plenty of time to get ready and drink our coffee!
Headed out at 10am for the start of the 1st of 3 laps around the 10 section loop.
Here we are heading out!
Bunch of action shots of me and some other folks.
shoulda clicked into 2nd!! LOL (did the next 2 laps!)
Overall totally awesome day. 1st trials ever for me. I am ready for the next one!!! Totally hooked. Its a mental/physical exercise like no other. Picking and remembering your line being TOP PRIORITY!!! I screwed up a couple times and went the wrong way getting 5's for those sections.
Also knowing when to take a solid dab for 1 point vs flailing and getting a 3! And not rushing! LOL I cant wait to do an event on my Montesa now its gonna seem SOOOOOOO EASY to ride after riding the old TL lately! =beavis I rode the hardest line and ended up 3rd in support class!
Ohh I knew just what it was! I like to punish myself with heavy bikes. I ride a DRZ400 too! I figured if I got good on this old TL I would absolutely ROCK on my Montesa 315!!
Rode in the Crooked River Ranch Vintage Trial today on the TL.
We had a BLAST together!!! She ran great right up till the last few sections when it started to miss a lil bit. She got me through though!
1st trial ever, rode the hardest line and got 3rd in the support class. STOKED! Almost beat my buddy riding a new bike! Bummed I didnt see the old dude I got it from there...but had a blast all the same!!! Pics later!
Ya, maxing out the preload on the rear shocks helped...lil more would be good though! Its soooo top heavy compared to my Montesa LOL I may just need to get used to it more!
Ghetto-fabbed up some side panels out of some recycled uhmw plastic I had laying around. Turned out ok...for a rider!
Used T nuts in the lower grommets to bolt to. And then for the top front I used a long bolt with a barrell nut that I thread a shorter bolt into to clamp it against the tank. Right through the grommets.
Worked pretty slick.
After bending my fender bracket to level my fender I found I probably have it on the wrong way round...o well its on!
She is running good. Still not happy with the steering. Its a pusher and likes to flop to full lock...think I need to jack up the backend a bit more...
