  1. just out for a ride after checking the bike over and i went out in my safety boots from work rather than the normal motorcross boots that i wear. thing is i found i had much more "feel" for the bike than i normaly had. is this normal or are motorcross boots not suitable for trials?? i though that a boot was a boot where MX and trials were concerned. is there that much difference in the two boots? BTW i have only ridden the bike for about 6hrs total so far!!! so to say i am a newbie would be very true.

    Oil Leak

right then i did as advised and cleaned it to an inch of its life! then topped up the oil and changed the O ring on the filler plug, checked the clutch cover as well , all good. just back after an hour's fairly hard riding and nothing is leaking at all so maybe it was just the O ring on the filler. fingers crossed thats all that it was. many thanks for the help guys and thank god its a simple one!

    Oil Leak

thats what i would have thought but the shaft and sprocket were dry and not soaked in ATF? is it simple to check the clutch O ring?

    Oil Leak

was out for a ride about today and after about 20 mins i noticed the "rainbow"oil effect on the top of my right boot. my first though was fuel leaking but i couldnt smell anything. upon further looking and poking i noticed that the left side (clutch side) had ATF all over it and it seemed to be coming out round the gearbox filler plug' i tried to tighten this but couldn't. when i got back to the workshop i took the chain off and front sprocket and saw that the seal round the output shaft was leaking slightly. it seems to me that it wouldnt be enough to cover the the left side including the carb! do i need to look any where else??

    315r Decals

i've had a root around on ebay and other than sandifords for the genuine ones is there anywhere that i can get a set of decals for the rear mud guard and the front forks?
  8. ok all cleaned and put back together running away the finest and ticking over lovely! thanks for the replies and help. one thing though the air mix screw is 2 1/4 turns out ?? however after a good thrashing up the road and back this evening the plug looks good, a nice tan colour and clean not sooty at all. i'll think i will leave it alone.
  9. a litre and a half of 80:1 wont make it smoke that much.......
  10. is it possible to over oil the filters?? if it was over oiled would that cause it to not idle properly?? i've cleaned the carb out this evening there was some debris in there but not much however there was some water in the float bowl..... i'm going to dump the fuel in the tank into the wifes car and dry the tank out tommorow and then refit and try it again!

  13. spot on thanks wherry! will let you know how i get on
  14. thanks wherry so mines a 97 then... hmmm time to talk to the man i got it from. am i right in thinking that the jets are fixed rather than adjustable? ie i can take em out and clean them then put them back in and not worry how they are set??
  15. cleaned and oiled the airfilter on my new to me 315r . oiled it with 4stroke engine oil and squeezed it till no more came out, blew the airbox out with the airline refitted it and started 2nd kick. now the thing seems to "surge" on a steady, just off idle, throttle ie turning circle speed. it also wont tick over either. am i right in thinking that the carb needs cleaning? low speed jets blocked? now i was also told it was a 2002 model but the forks look like the 99/00 model and the discs are solid with no slots in the rotors. i have had a look round thru google but i cant seem to find anything to date/de-code montesa frame numbers the number is VTDMT03A0VExxxxxx and the engine no is NN3Exxxxxx anyone out there tell me what year mine is?
  16. is it possible to raise the bar's by say 2" i'm finding that i am stooping a little too much for my liking. can you get the renthals in different heights? worked that out for myself! next question is the clutch seems to be dragging a bit is it easy to adjust?
  17. howdy i'm from west ireland and have just got me a 2002 montesa315r after a long time away from trials. used to do a few twinshock pre-65 with the lincolnshire poachers a long while back. looking forward to making an a*** of myself and annoying all of you with the stupid newbie questions!
