  1. Hi Just listenend to your video, I ve always thought shercos were noisy, but that is loud!!! You did say in your earlier post that you enjoyed stripping the engine apart. think you need to have another go, TLTEL

    Tl125S Set Up.

Hi Hoodie2 That doesnt sound right, that surely means that the valves are open. You need to set timing at tdc on compression stroke, so it was probably right before. Not sure where you got your infomation from, the mark on the cam sprocket should be at the top. Connect it up and run it through a firing cycle by turning the crankshaft with a socket bar, watch how the valves open in relation to the piston position and when the points start to open at the top of the compression stroke. It will help you to understand how it works. I wouldnt worry too much about carb settings till you get it running, these engines will usually run as long as you are getting some fuel in. TLTEL
  3. Thats what I was thinking. Or maybe come down South. TLTEL

    Gas Gas Txt Parts

just had the same problem getting the 6 bolt rear sprocket for my JTR, Loooked at quite a few sites and there didnt appear to be much available. Was looking for a 40t rear , ended up buying a 42 tooth listed as a Sherco sprocket. have since seen them on Splatshop site and sandifords are selling them on Ebay. TLTEL

    The Doctor

I will always be a Rossi fan, and really enjoyed watching Sundays race, I was on the edge of my seat for the last 5 laps, I cant remember the last MOTOGP Race like that. Regardless. if you like Rossi or not this season looks set to be a good one, I think Marquez was brilliant and see him winning the next race as they say its a Honda track and none of them have raced there yet. I can't wait. TLTEL
  6. Just curious, How do you line it all back up when you re-assemble. TLTEL

    Base Gasket Squish

Hi Clav3 just thinking on what you have said,I suppose its possible that in my case as the squish was very tight ( it almost cut through the solder I used) and there could be a small amount of movement on con rod, when the engine is hot and things have loosened up and expanded, the squish clearance would be vertually nothing and could cause the knock. It is a 95 engine so there must some wear. It sounds really good at the moment. Let us know how yours turns out. TLTEL
  8. Sorry about that!!!! It was April the first!!! TLTEL

    Base Gasket Squish

Sorry, but I find it a bit hard to believe you would do all that work on an engine and not check the con rod for wear. I think probably any engine I have taken the top off I have had a look to see if there is any movement, also that you didnt check the squish clearance just out of curiosity before removing the head again. I don,t think you said what engine it was, but am assuming its 290 sherco, and I think probably the squish is more important on the larger capacity engines, Just my thoughts!! TLTEL
  10. Welcome to the Forum. I had an SL for a few years back in the 80's, I had to keep welding patches on the exhaust were it rusted out, in the end there was more patch than original metal. I wish now that I had taken photos of all the bikes that have past through my hands. TLTEL
  11. Good video, shame there wasnt more of it! I was hoping to come up to the quarrey over the weekend, never been there but it looks good. TLTEL
  12. sorry I cant help with the magnet positions at the moment, but it does look the same as the TL set up I think I have got a spare I will try to have a look. The advance unit does look different to mine (from memory, not seen it for a while) yours does look very dry, a bit of lubrication might help things move a little easier. No supressor in plug lead on mine. TLTEL
  13. yes, it should fit, but normally its the 124 barrels that are bored out! TLTEL
  14. welcome, that looks like a nice tidy bike. Pretty sure those are snow E tyres on the bike, does the bike come with mud & rock tyres too? TLTEL

    Base Gasket Squish

Hi If you look on the forums, there are instructions on how to check squish with soft solder, its eay to do. I had issues with my gas gas when I bought it and the knock does sound quite serious, although there were no signs of the piston hitting the head there was almost no clearance, i fitted two base gaskets and took the clearance up to 1.5 mm, that was about three years ago, and its still fine. hope this helps. just remembered, rather than buy the gg gaskets I bought several sheets of different thickness gasket paper and made my own, much cheaper and easier to get the right thickness. TLTEL Yes . What Dom Said. He posted while I was writing.
  16. Hi Just a thought on your advance / retard unit, i had one from an xl engine and tried to use it, just because it looked newer than the TL one I was using, on close inspection the slot that lines up with the dowel on camshaft was in a different position and the springs and weights were different too. So it may be that you need the camshaft and advance unit from a CT to make it all work properly with the CT stator.. Interesting about the stator / magnet positions being crucial, I supose it is not normaly some thing that crops up as its not usually variable. Presumably the reason it worked ok with the battery set up is because you had a constant power at the coil/points. Hope you get it sorted. TLTEL Just wanted to add, If the advance / retard is wrong it might rev if you raise revs slowly, but not under load or quick opening of throttle
  17. well that sounds like a bit of mixture youve got there. Is the main engine TL. I checked my TL yesterday and that has five wires coming out from the stator, I dont have lights so only use one wire. I have an old stator that just has one coil inside ( off a TL125E) model and that is fitted to the bottom of the case. I am not familiar with the CT as they didnt bring many of those into the UK. I do know from experiance that the cam shafts for these engines are not all the same and are timed differently as are the centrafugal advance unit with the points cam on. You might have to ignore the marks stamped on the cam shaft sprocket and time it manualy. I wouldnt think that the magnet positition would make any difference as it is not related to the timing like a bike with cdi ignition. Back to the electrics, It does sound like a bad earth problem, Try running an earth cable to from engine to coil / condenser, if your frame has been painted or powder coated, this can cause a problem., I did have a TL125S model that was fully road legal (1978) and that had a battery fitted, maybe you could find a wiring diagram for that model. One last thing, just thinking out loud really, I think they were wired with a constant charge to the battery via a regulator / rectifier and one of the stator wires went to the light switch so was only active when the head light was turned on and there was some thing electical mounted on the fork bottom yolk that pressumably took away the power at high revs to stop the bulb blowing. Hope this is of some help. TLTEL
  18. Gas gas UK will have one, check spline size, probably 14 or 16 mm. They are not cheap!! You might want to change the way you kick your bike. TLTEL
  19. Hot topic at the moment, could be the tranny oil you are using, have you changed it recently? TLTEL
  20. Nice photo's. Spotted at least 3 people riding with no gloves on! How can they do that? TLTEL

    The Doctor

    I hope so !! TLTEL
  22. Hi Ben In my opinion if the oil you are using works for you, then use it, Better to use something that works and you can change regularly. There is nothing HI-Tec in those gearboxes. I have used ATF in my gassers for about three years and that is cheap enough and I get good clutch feel, and can stop and find nuetral when I need to. Others will say different, but it works for me. TLTEL (by the way mine are not the pro model)
  23. I think we all tend to do that when out practicing, It helps if you can get a mate to set them out for you or with you, Include things that you dont like doing, so that you can practice those bits. I dont like going over logs for some reason and you nearly always get them in our sections down in kent. Turning on cambers is a good one to practice, make your section tight and keep at it, It does make you feel good when you do clean it. Hope that helps TLTEL
  24. Not today, but yesterday, Rode my Gasser in a great trial in kent. Mud, Mud and, more mud. Quite a few people had to take there front mudguards off so the wheel would go round. Great Fun Though!! TLTEL
  25. I did read quite a lot of it, and there is a lot, as I didnt know what a Bing was. Down our way Bing is a fizzy drink. You are lucky if no-one is bothered by your riding there. Enjoy the grey area while you can! TLTEL
