    AJP Brakes

Ok guys what is the best way to get the cylinders out of the caliper on the front brake of a 95 or 94 JT 160 gas gas. I need to get them apart to see if i need to rebuild them or see why they are sticking so bad. one piston is completely stuck and the other sticks at a certain point and will not retract all the way 100% of the time. Here is the weird part though. the piston that doesnt retract all the way is the inner piston. If i lay the bike over to the right well past 45 degrees or so the piston begins to function properly for the most part. I have a feeling i will have to rebuild the caliper but i need to see whats happening first. What can i do?
  2. I have a 94 techno and ive known every one who has had it since it was new. and i have never had a problem with corrosion in my cooling system what so ever. i just had the bike apart too for a winter tune up and no problems at all. I also am using a engine ice coolant because i live in a high heat in summer and very cold winters in the states.
  3. i like the idea of combining the two sports to gain a interest and grow the sport. You can never get the really hard sections built into a stadium where riders really show their talent but when you host a venue like that an people attend because their curious. Then your starting to get places. The real problem is how do we start to get people to come out to trials events at our national level like the do at world level in Europe. The national i was at here in Colorado this year at least from what i saw was there were more riders than spectators. but i could only see what came around as I was working that event.
  4. Renthal Trial grips med compound work great for me. Gloves really stick to them and there super comfortable no matter the season
  5. Just throwing it in. Alpine star all the way. Dam comfy boots
  6. how about staying on your tires more often and smacking less rocks. BRILLIANT!!!!
  7. I live here in the states and to get from event to event with two bikes i have a 85 chevy pickup standard cab standard box pickup and i can easily take two to three bikes to any event. Im in the process of building a wheel chock that bolts into the bed where and existing light bar used to be.
  8. ok can you give me a little info of how to get the pistons out. I have never done a brake caliper rebuild before. I am taking over two bikes from my father who never really worked on semi modern bikes so my knowledge is limited of this stuff.
  9. ok even with a fused left ankle you should still be able to kick start the bike with your right foot standing on your left leg on that side of the bike. I have a 94 techno and i do it all the time. If i may ask do you have any trouble semi or fully standing on your left foot? the only other thing i could suggest is to stand over your bike have the kick start flipped out with your right foot up on the right peg stand up placing your left foot on the kick start and kick down to start the bike that way just like practicing to start the bike while balancing if you ever stall with out taking a 5 in a section.
  10. I agree with those who are against the whole name of moto trials for the name of the sport because in reality that term does give an entirely different picture than that the sport is really about. Every time i have some one come up and ask me about the bikes i have loaded in the back of my truck Ive used the terms motorcycle trials or observed motorcycle trials. but i also take it further than that to make people understand the what the sport is. Theres more to understanding than just the name. Here in Colorado the sport is known as well as its not known at the same time. I mean to really grow the sport it needs to be advertised more. For instance when the national was here the only advertising i saw for it was on the NATC site and the RMTA site. However as far as the novice class goes for the RMTA club its actually fairly decent amount of new riders for the club. I'm even teaching my fiance who has never been on a bike for that manner nor ever even been around the sport till she met me, and she has now begun to start learning how to ride a trials bike and ride a novice section as she wants to compete right along side me. Its really all a manner of how we take the approach of our sport to bring it to others.
  11. Hey guys i have a 95 gas gas JT 160 the 175 cc bike. Had it out the other day and discovered a major front brake caliper problem. Pulled it off to discover i have the outer piston not moving at all and the inner is not returning fully. It appears to be jammed up by something. I was able to get it to close all the way once then i tried to move the brakes it pushed out to the same point where it would not return again. what can i do to it. the bike sat for a good while and i have tried to oil the pistons but there still is no improvement. I need some ideas of what to do to either fix the problem or what i can replace it with.
  12. Well believe it or not I just got my new rings the other day and put them in this afternoon and the final result is: NO MORE PISTON SLAP. Bike basically has a brand new motor in it now. Also may i add that all i did was put new rings into the motor. It still has the original piston and rest of the assembly.
  13. what specifically do you need to see. I have a 94 techno currently torn apart for some maintenance work. ill take pics for ya just tell em what you need to see.
  14. ok what about where the rear sub frame bolts to the main frame with the four bolt locations. Would it be possible if i was able to find a fender and sub frame, to bolt it to my 94s main frame. in essence swap sub frames for the rear mudgards?
  15. Ok that makes sense. What exactly did beta change in the sub frame may i ask?
  16. Ive got a 94 techno and im wondering if there is the possibility of a more modern style fender than can be fitted to the older techno. I.E. like a newer looking gas gas fender or beta rev. Are there any other options out there??
  17. I have always just used a little soapy water from a spray bottle with the renthal grips i use. I just spray a little on the bars and some in the grip. shake the grip alittle so its coated on the inside and slide the grip on. Let it dry over night and the next day they stay on solid no slipping. Even on hot days. I never used any other tricks with glues or spray paints or even wire tieing them to the bars. I never had a single issue with grips sliding. Also it helps to pay attention to your grips. I dont know about other brands however the Renthal Trials grips Meds i use are sizing on the inside diamiter one being larger than the other. Thus one for throttle and one for plain bar.

    Beta Techno

Im doing some work with my 94 beta techno. Its time to put some attention into the bearings on the rear swing arm. How do i go about removing and repacking them with fresh grease.
  19. Hey guys ive got a 94 techno and im currently in the process of doing some engine work. I have the header pipe in a hot tank right now for the second time removing 15+ years of carbon build up. What else can i do with the rest of the exhaust system with regards to the expansion chamber and the muffler? How do i go about repacking the muffler? what else can i hot tank?
  20. When i opened the motor the other day. I checked everything on the piston and rotating assembly and there is no play other than what is normal for tolerance. This bike has been ridden hard for its life but not abused. All its needing is a simple re-ring and it will be good to go. What else should i do to it while its apart though?
  21. Well fellas im just not getting to putting a new set of rings into my 94 Beta Techno. It seems pretty strait forward but i began to think of what else i should do while the head is off the bike. its piston knocking so i have ordered a new set of rings in a whole rebuild kit. what else should i have done.I have the header pipe in a hot tank right now to remove 15+ years of carbon deposit. what else should i do to the other various parts besides normal cleaning and repairing?
  22. On your front forks. The allen key is for your dampening and the red knob on the other is for rebound. Turning it negative will increase rebound rate and turning the allen key in will make the dampening happen faster so that your not extremely bouncy. on the rear shock the blue knob is also for rebound. turn it clockwise for more rebound response. I run my rear at full rebound. with the spring almost as tight at the threads will allow me. On the front hI have it set for fast rebound and the dampening allows for some play but not to where it continuously bounces out of control. I have the 94 techno and the suspension dynamics should be exactly the same.
