  1. Clutch is back in bits tonight, was going to order a master cylinder rebuild kit but was told by lambkins to try roughing up the steel plates so thought I'd try that. I've now found that on the basket there are ridges so the plates cant move freely. Next problem is to get the basket out, I don't have an impact gun so will have to improvise and make a clutch holder before Sunday, hopefully if I can get the basket out and clean up the edges that should improve things massively.
  2. Now what we really need is a Christini all wheel drive conversion on my Beta!! Would that be allowed???
  3. Might be bing a bit simplistic here but. ... The kill switch is basically a switch in line which earths out to the frame You need to trace back your wires, one is effectively a supply to the switch (in) and the other (out) will connect to the frame. If you've got a multi meter, set it to buzz and connect one probe to the frame and the other to the cable above where it connects to the frame, you should get a buzz, if so it's good, now check it at the kill switch itself as we'll, now disconnect the supply (in) part and connect the probe to there and press the kill switch and if working it should, buzz. Hope that helps, it's hard to explain in words.
  4. Used it in anger a couple of weeks ago now and can't say there were any real negatives other than the magnet attaching itself to the exhaust, disc etc when you had it hanging off your wrist, switched off. It also cut the bike off when I launched it off the top of a step ! Lol Would recommend it as a useful upgrade.
  5. Billy't the castol rs 5w40 has been discontinued now castol say its now power racing 1 5w40 and only available through BMW bike dealers
  6. 007 - I'll have to pull the clutch out to measure it Billyt - I can't really remember if it was creeping before I did the clutch mod as it was quite new to me then, but the clutch mod made a big difference to the neutral selection but my memory is that the creeping started after that I think. As for what gear does it stop spinning, it all but stopped in 5th today. When I did the clutch mod the metal plates (friction?) were flat when checked on a glass sheet by eye.
  7. In reply to billyt (was looking for your post but couldn't find it before I posted this) Backed out the adjuster on the lever and checked/topped up the M/C Ran the bike up to temp on the stand and in gear to warm everything up and in 1st with the clutch pulled in the back wheel spins and you can't really hold it by hand but in 5th gear you can hold the wheel by hand, if left free the wheel will spin with the clutch in. Would you suggest trying the oil you used? Or take the clutch pack out and clean more between the pads?
  8. Yes tidied up the tabs and yes using 500cc of oil, not tried the master cylinder, how would this show up or what would I check/test?
  9. I tend to rock the bike in gear before starting it to free off the clutch which isn't a major issue (more of an anoyance than anything else) its the hanging on in sections and inconsistency that is a problem.
  10. Maybe should be in the clutch fix post???? Right, its an 04 Rev 3 250 and when I bought it the clutch wouldn't allow changes into neutral etc so whipped the clutch pack out and have done the clutch fix mod by cleaning out between the lumps and smoothing out the basket etc. This made a huge difference and it will now shift into neutral while stationary but the problem I have is that it won't release for ages when you first start it and that it sometimes "hangs on" when you pull the clutch in and continues to drive which is bloody frustrating. It was run on ATF (stands back and waits for the screeches!! lol) so changed on to Putoline light gear oil and after a couple of runs its still no better. Was thinking of trying the Putoline Nano trans as reccomended by some on here or has the ATF contaminated the fibres?? O r would I be better and buy a new set of clutch plates - and if I do do I still need to "mod" them before installation. Its the only thing that spoils a bloody good bike. cheers all.
  11. Got mine today - choice is to fit it now or drink beer???
  12. Need a new kill switch and thought about putting a lanyard type on as it should be a little safer, anyone regretted fitting one?
  13. there was a guy pottering about in the main arena part late on Sunday on a rather nice Bultaco, should have taken a pic really.
  14. This might be allready done, but a riders and observors briefing beforehand advising how the rules will be applied would solve a lot of problems but to be fair from what I saw, the application of the rules was about right. I watched, last night, some youtube footage of the Penrith round last year and to be honest it was a bit boring, they were balancing and setting themselves up for the rock/tree/whatever then clearing it. At this years you had some drama in that they couldn't get their balance and had to look at the section as a whole as opposed to 10 or 12 individual obstacles with each section. Personally I enjoyed the whole thing and I've ridden at NordVue (very badly lol) and not at championship level obviously and it is good to be able to see everything in a 100yd walk as opposed to some sites where you'd only be able to see a couple of sections.
  15. I think raga, bou and maybe cabastany?? Iirc got through 12 on lap 3 for a one, possibly Dabil too. I think the observer had been worded as he had changed from lap 1
  16. Had a cracking day at the world round, never been able to go before but to be able to see those guys up close is amazing. The sections looked good, hard enough so even the top guys were dropping marks but you could se the talent there. The observer on the last section was getting some stick on lap 1 for 5ing everyone, but he seemed to have relaxed a little on laps 2 & 3. Thanks to all the promoters, site staff, observers etc for a job well done.
  17. lost a strap off my boots last night :-( anyone know where I can get replacements, boots are GAR of unknown age lol
  18. Sten - I've seen a lot of unusual attire at trials, old Ncb wellies, boiler suits,Barbour jackets etc but never seen someone in jodhpurs before, it did make me laugh but at least your having a go Totty79 - you might not love your first trial and if you want to pack in half way round, do it! But stick at it and the second trial will be brilliant, on Only do what you're happy with and enjoy the feeling of cleaning your first section, I've been trialling 3 yrs now and at a recent one there was a section where I looked at first and thought"no way" but I gave it a go and fived it, but kept trying and on lap 4 cleaned it properly, made my day, still chuffed with it actually! :-)
  19. It's not that I want to ride at Mach 5 , far from it I'm happy bumbling along but when you,re faced with a rock step or big puddle I'd like to be able to ride it like my rev3 and blip the throttle to lift it over it, maybe I'm expecting too much, would love a 300 2 stroke but think it might be a bit wild for me lol
  20. Re the WR250F and the DRZ400 This is gonna sound a like a kiddy question but.....can you wheely it off the throttle without too much technique required, i.e. to blip over a log, drop off, gully etc as thats the problem with the CCM, you just plough through it which is great if you're racing but I'm not, I want the enjoyment of riding with skill not speed.
  21. 350 Freeride - I would love to... except paying for it in the first place, did you hear him sit it on the limiter!!!! Love the XL125 looks much more fun How does the 4RT cope on the lanes? can you actually sit on it for any length of time? I am coming to the conclusion that maybe a TTR250 or KDX might be more enjoyable for me but they wouldn't be much use on the road so would mena buying a roadbike as well and SWMBO would do her nut at that - the dilema continues lol
  22. I bought a ccm 644 a couple of months ago so I could nip out and ride off road when I haven't got enough time to get the trials bike out ( and lack of space to practice) but I've been finding it frustrating, it's bloody heavy even though its relatively light for a trail bike, it doesn't lift the front ( guys on the ccm forum have confirmed they're very front end heavy) so if i blip it, it just spins up. Generally I find its not that much fun, I'm hanging on guiding it rather than riding it. Reason I bought a big bike was I wanted something to greenlane on but could do a bit of road work as well, but think it might be the wrong thing and maybe I should just go to a road bike so...... What does anyone else ride?
  23. I started 3 yrs ago and I'm a bit better than I was but by no means good but I enjoy riding and the crack at the trials, never met anyoone who was less then helpfull, so here's my take on it. Ride it, ride it a bit more, enter some trials and pay attention to how the other guys do it, watch what they do with their body and bike, ask questions, ride it, try different things, take a 5 when you look at a section and think NO WAY! you'll notice the emphasis on riding it, I always struggle for the first lap to get the bike moving then second lap it starts to get easier, but thats because I don't get enough time on the bike, theres no substitute to getting on it.
  24. Yes the kill switch does nothing when its at full chat and is exactly what happened to me, pressing the kill switch and nothing happens, still sits revving its bits off.It was also exactly what the other lad was doing and frantically trying to stall it, he was very happy when I gloved the exhaust I was quite calm about it (un like when mine did it) and glad that I'd read about it on here.
  25. Had a lad fall off yesterday and tip his bike upside down and throttle jam open, now this has happened to me before and trying to switch it off frantically is terrifying, I stopped my bike and jumped down and, as I had read, jammed my gloved hand over the exhuaust and it does work and shut the bike down. Well worth knowing, lad was very appreciative.
