I'd already tried this previously and to be honest, now that I've done it once I wouldn't hesitate to change the seals again, it only took about an hour and a half in total.
-
Pistonbroke - I was told (after I'd stripped them) not to take the bottom bolt out on the spring side, I should have drained the oil through the top. But as I said if you do need to remove I found that a 21mm socket fitted it enough with a couple of extension bars to be able to tighten it.
Good luck
-
Cheers guys but all sorted last night and now ready for Sunday!! doubt it'll make me lose less marks though
-
I'm no expert and probably telling you things you allready know but, when I had this happen it was the throttle cable jammed holding the slide wide open, bloody scary!!
Only other thing that I know can be an air leak, could it be on the inlet stub between carb and engine?? Good luck with it and post up what the problem was when you find it.
-
And a 21mm socket on 2 extension bars reaches enough to hold it and tension the bolt.
Sorted now!
-
I've got it apart now and it's a taper shank rod, there is a couple of flats on the top section but a socket won't fit, just trying to fab something now, it's tighter than it was but not fully tight ..... Yet!

2004 Rev 3 250
recently changed the fork seals on mine and in doing it undid the drain bolt on the spring side as per the Sherco guide listed on here before.
Now I cant get the drain bolt to tighten and talking to Lampkins they would need the fork sent to them to tighten it whihc I havent got enough time to send it and have it returned before the weekend.
Has anyone any advice on how to get it to tighten? its a tapered shaft that sites into a tapered seating
Cheers

370 in the right was far too much if I dropped the damper rod down and compressed the fork so did it at 60mm air gap.
How do you tighten the drain bolt in the spring side leg? Mine just spins??
-
Just changed my fork seals for the first time (wasn't as bad as I thought it might be !) and need to refill with oil and I know that you compress the forks with the spring removed on one side but on the other do you fully remove the damper rod assembly or just push it to one side when measuring the air gap??

Just watched the video and it looked like they were nearly all stopping at some point or another, Emma Bristol did one part where the bike stopped but her body was moving forward so is this classed as forward motion?
As someone above said, as a relative newby, taking a momentary pause to gather it together when the bikes getting away from me and getting a 5 is annoying to say the least, how observers are going to police this I don't know!
-
Never heard of Maxima MTL - is it avialable in th UK?? any of the UK guys support this as opposed to ATF (I've already got ATF in the garage form having my Gasser)
As it happens the clutch was very grabby last time out and was pushing on a little which is prompting me to change it - (only ridden 2 trial since buying the bike)
-
Ta very much guys, thats tonights freezing session in the garage sorted!!
-
As it says really, anyone give me a guide as to how much oil in the gearbox of a Rev3 250 2004, need to change mine for the 1st time since getting it.
Side note but I did love my mates comment "bloody hell its a lot lighter than mine" Montesa 315 - lol
-
Thought I,d just fire a quick thank you to the guys that run the club, yesterday's trial was bloody good, I'm fairly crap but really enjoyed the sections, hard enought to challenge but still managed a few cleans, just the right standard for me. I wish I had the time to help out, but working every sat and 2 young kids mean its hard enough getting out to compete ( and that's only 4 or 5 times a yr) never mind setting out a trial.
Cheers guys, had a ball!

On reading this and having just done the feeler guage on my Rev 3 fork seals (which solved the problem) I was tempted to pack the area under the wiper with grease or even vaseline (ooh err missus !) but then decided it would just hold any debris - or was it an inspired thought?? probably not I'm thinking or everyone would do it.
-
If it runs ok then sounds about right to me, if your new it'll be much better than you are anyway, just like my bikes!! Get out and enjoy it.
-
I shall persevere and learn the art of left kicking - lol
He was a venry nice chap that sold me the Beta, he's off to buy a new Ossa - lucky git, I shall have to introduce myself to the Beta forum and have to say thanks to all the guys on the Gas Gas forum, always been helpfull!!
-
And now the proud owner of a rather nice 2004 Beta 250 Rev 3 - bloody left hand kicker's right weird though!!
-
Got a SY250F long ride available fairly close to me at a pretty good price so I'm kinda interested in it, Birketts told me it can have a normal trials tank on it if needed (or trial it as is??) I'm a very low level club rider so not the greatest but always liked the looks of the Scorpa, the Yam engine should be fairly bulletproof so anything else I need to know?? Don't see many of these for sale so isa there a good reason for this??
cheers
-
2005 last bike was a JTX250
-
Looking for a new ride and spied a TXT300 pro at a reasonable price, how much more "lively" are they than the 250???
-
It gets better - he's just been back on asking if I want an Ipad 3, his pitbike and £250.00 for my bike - unfotunaely by this pooint someone else came and looked at it and paid cash then took it away.
Did contemplate asking matey if he'd give me a go on his missus as well just to see what his answer would be.
Shopping time now
-
Cheers for that, some good advice, which is mostly obvious, but not always considered about offroad bikes.
Got an email this morning (my bikes up for £850.00 ) offering me a 110cc pitbike and £250.00
I answered with "LMAO - must be a hell of a pitbike to be worth £600.00"
he responds with "so - do yo want to do a deal"
Sarcasm is lost on some people - I had to be clear and answer "NO - not really"
Cheered me right up this morning - lol
-
6ft and 10 stone, I think you need a good few meals as a priority!!! you might snap if its a tricky section!
I started out on a 250 and I'm only 5'6" and 13 stone (proper weight - extra weight gives you extra grip in my world - lol) and haven't found it to be too intimidating if thats of use to you.
-
Cheers for that and you should always get out of the bath, where as the shower - well thats fine.
