  1. Back in the days ( the early 70's ), yes yes, I'm that old, if you where serious about trial, you needed boots. Helmet was for beginner and if you where really serious, you had to wear glove. I was in a group that '' thought '' they where really serious, so glove ever since and it does not feel right if I don't. Of course I learned since then, I force myself to wear '' some protection '' on my head.

  2. The first time I repositioned mine , I lowered them 1 1/4 inch and also back 1 1/4 inch. I'm 5' 8'',  since than I modified 2 other TY and did the same, they feel right for me. First few ride, I mostly notice the lower position but I felt it did not made such a big difference. It's only when I swap bike with a friend who wanted to try mine that I really felt the difference. I kept the TY footrest and made them wider and longer, but the back plate  look very similar to yours.

  3. I mix Premiun ( 92 octane no ethanol )  gas 3/4 and VP racing gas 1/4 with Klotz Techniplate 75 / 1 to run in my 03 250 Beta Rev. I was to buy a 20 liter jug of VP for the season before I started to read on the product. I was always told the stuff would keep forever and it seems to be wrong, it only stay fresh in certain conditions. I want to try avgas mix with auto gas any of you tried that. Please don't reply with chemical formula.

  4. 1st the price should be around $1.00 in the US. 2nd, it's not really an o ring it's a '' gasket '' , I have one in the bag in front of me as I write this PN 122-23129-00. It's made of a kind of plastic, flat on both side, I won't take it out of the bag, being so small, I'll never find it when I'll need it. From what I can tell it's 1.5 mm thick, center hole is 4 mm and of is 7 mm.

  5. Again I would like to tap in your experience. I don't want to start yet another pros and cons between 4 stroke and 2 stroke trial bike but I would like to know from experience if a 4 stroke trial have a longer range on a tank.

  6. The best kept bike you can afford is your best choise. Remember, a new bike come with a waranty, just in case, imagine a used one. Seals, chain, tire... You'll probably have to invest a bit of money soon after you pick it up. So an 03 ( like mine ) in good shape is a better buy than an 07or 09 that  need a lot of care

  7. I think Mick Andrews as to be on that list, specially because he was and still is an ambassador to trial. Is riding technique is not flashy but  to this day, the base of motorcycle riding. The fact that it is so easy to talk to him and is generosity for advise set's him appart.

  8. Jon, I would never disagree with your reason, If Modern is not your cup off tea, I get it you will not greed them with open arms. Also I remember about 10 years back being at a modern event with a TS, I could not feel '' the love '' . It's unfortunate for us ( most of the time  ) the older bike lovers who enjoy all type off bike an competition. The best time you can have is at Daytona USA during the Bike Week, you see everything. From Trial to Road Race and in between, Dirt Track and Motocross with vintage and....

  9. Hi Jon

I'm a much better rider than the easy line that the organiser setup at our event, but i register in that category because I don't like the '' competition '' side off riding trial. I'm lucky that the organiser let me ride that way, what I do is return a scoring card ( they insist on giving me one ) with full score ( 5 in all sections ). Maybe they tolerate me because I ride both TS and Modern bikes and the fact that there is not al lot of rider, usually less than 20 also help. I would never  be stupid enough to complain about the section laying. There is a low entry fee, I don't think they cover the expense, that I gladly pay. So no pressure on me. Am I just the only one that like it that way ? Since you are on this '' case '' Jon, can you explain to me why it seem impossible at many trials ?

  10. I have TS  and a ( not so ) Modern bike, an 03 Beta. I had some reserve before buying my modern bike because I'm an ordinary rider, and I know it, so I'll never be a participant in a modern bike competition. I really enjoy riding my Ty and it make me appreciate even more the suspension, the brake the gearing.... of the Beta. I go to TS comp. and bring both bike. What pi...s me off is when I hear '' Oh you ride a pogo stick ''. I usually  keep my temper, but when it happen, I have to admit, it's hard.

I don't understand why someone is not welcome at a TS '' friendly competition '' with a modern bike ( and the other way around ). You should be brilliant enough, if you owned a trial bike to know what you get into, and the organiser of the event should also be brilliant enough to advertise the type of event. Is one type of trial bike a non curable a very painful sickness ? As long as you don't alter or destroy the sections with your bike ( or your attitude ), WELCOME AND HAVE FUN. But I'm old and I might not get the idea....

  11. I stand on the peg about an inch away from the motor so the outside of the peg is close to the middle of my foot. I cannot say that it is very confortable, does anybody have the same problem and as anybody found a good solution.

I had the same problem with my Sidi '' Joel Robert '' in the 70's and with all the boots including the Forma Boulder that I wear today.

  12. Yes nigel dabster I will do the job at home, I am thinking using a mountain bike tube as advice by peterh. I have a new tube for the front, is there something ( apart from  cleaning the rim ) I should be aware off for the rear . Again it's my first tubeless change.
