  1. As far as I know the best starting procedure is that to put the piston at TDC compression stroke and then with a long slow kick and no throttle at all try to start the engine, and I agree, it is more difficult to start the engine when it is hot. However, no starting problem for me during the last week . Carl
  2. 2RS=rubber seals on both sides. RS=rubber seal on one side. Carl
  3. I made the reset procedure described on pg 6-6 in the manual and.......it starts . Running a bit rough the first 15 seconds or so then cleaning up and back to normal idle. It seems to work OK now. I

    4rt Doesn

Hello I bought a 4RT about a month ago and it have run wonderful until last monday when after a gentle wash it refuses to start. I have in order: -Replaced the spark plug with a new one. Yes there are bright sparks. -Measured the ignition coil resistance (pg 6-3 in manual OK). -Measured the ignition pulse generator resistance (pg 6-4 OK). -Measured the PGM-FI system connector (pg 6-5 OK). -Connected the PGM-FI warning unit (pg 6-6). When I put the power switch on and run the check I first got a short blink then after about 2 seconds a long blink followed by two short blinks then again after a few seconds a long blink followed by two short blinks. Looking at pg 6-7 it is obvious that I got a code 12 which says: "Loose or poor contact on injector connector" or "open or short circuit in injector wire" or "faulty injector". I am not shure what the first short blink means, perhaps it is a code 1 (symptoms "poor idle) but it is not repeated and the problem is that the engine doesn
  5. What I found out about cleaning the carb: Every jet must be taken out and cleaned. Every passage in the carb body must be cleaned. The compressed air must be clean and well filtrated. There must be a filter unit on the pressure line otherwise more dust may be injected into the carb or jets. Don
  6. Remember that the Mikuni VM series was designed in the late 60
  7. Fitting the rubber on is much easier if the clips are removed and the flanges are lightly oiled. Carl
  8. Doing the airfilter maintainance and keeping the fuel clean should keep you on the track. But if you get dirt in the idle jet or somewhere else in the carb it may be difficult to get rid of it. I have used 3 VHST
  9. Hello I was able to get the R9354 better in tune. Slightly better bottom end power and better throttle response but I had to change the spider heigth from 7mm to 5mm. The R9359 has a different air jet, throttle needle/needle jet and 2mm spider height. I had the Mikuni on for a couple of weeks this autumn (for testing). With the mikuni I had to work a lot more with the clutch and I felt that riding was overall more difficult. Double blips wasn
  10. Remember to keep the fuel clean as the carb is sensitive to dirt and dust. Use a clean and oiled air filter. I found out that cold starting problem is an indication of dust in the carb and they need to be cleaned when new. Replacing the 60 choke jet with 80 is a good idea. Idle jet S37-S38, Throttle 50-55 and main jet 105-115 would work with the R9359 carb. You can machine the air inlet diameter down for easier fit to the inlet rubber. I had better result with the old R9354 carb but the R9359 works well. Regards Carl
  11. I guess that the treaded hole is for a small bracket that help the exhaust sytem to stay in the correct position. Carl
  12. I have heard that some of the -07s have been sent back to the factory. I don
  13. I think the 250 needs more reving and working with the clutch but it is easier to go out of control with the 270. Carl
  14. Well, I think all original jetted (Mikuni)Beta rev
  15. Yes, Mick is right. The Michelin rubber quickly goes hard when it
  16. Had a good ride today +0.5 degrees and some light snow comming from above. I really like it but the unpredictable grip makes the ride hazarderous. So, apart from the good old Michelins we are left with two options: A ripper Pirelli or a gripper Mitas. I really don
  17. I spray the chain with Castrol Chain Wax before every run. It keeps the chain clean and well lubricated. The best I have used so far. Much better than the usual chain oils which acts as a magnet for dirt and dust. Carl
  18. I know there is a discussion about the best trials tire but what do you guys prefer during winter time when the ground may be frozen. IRC or Michelin? I guess Dunlop is out of question...or I think Michelin quickly loose its grip when the temperature is below 5 degrees C or so. Is it the same with IRC? Carl
  19. I have (from a reliable source) got the information that the -07 frame will accomodate a four stroke engine that will appear in 2008 and this should be the reason for the -07 frame changes. Carl
  20. I have been running the Dunlop D803 for about two months now. I will very soon replace it with a good Michelin. The Dunlop doesn
