  1. Folks typically go looking for problems with the big stuff, like rim tape, etc. when the most common problem is the valve core itself. Over time, it is easy get dirt in there, filling it up, checking tire pressure, etc. and cause the sealing surface of the core to fail. Screw the valve core out, and clean it good. When you put it back in, be careful as over tightening it can warp the core and cause as much problems as under tightening it. Once you have the core back in the stem, spray some lube (such as WD40) into the stem, and then push the little core pin in and out several times to work the lube into the sealing surface area. 9 times out of 10 this has solved my tire leaking problems. When it didn't, a new valve core screwed into the existing core did.
  2. No! Mine come out of the truck, and straight to the garage wall, next to bike and gas can. Time to ride, they all go back in the truck. My first pair of Gaerne lasted 6 years like that, and even then they had a lot of life left. Gave them to a friend that had no boots (still going strong) and broke out my second pair, which I purchased along with the first, never expecting that they would last that long!
  3. Yes, but a battery rupture might endanger the rare 3 legged snail's natural habitat!
  4. One of several differences between the '07 and '08 model is the right side engine case. Apparantly, there were some sealing problems, as they added an additional bolt to the cover. Can't say about your antifreeze. You might make sure what you are seeing is not just overflow, from the radiator cap. If there is excessive coolant, and the engine gets hot, it has to go somewhere. My '08 model does not have a hose connected to the cap. Not sure if it is supposed to, or not, but wihtout one, overflow sort of spits out into the upper frame, and platters onto the engine, giving the appearance of a leak. Mine only did it once, but it had me looking, until I figured it out.
  5. Hey Martin, Good to hear from you. In hindsight, I should have been more clear on the "Depending on who you listen to..." portion of my story. The "speculations about Montesa and Honda in paragraph two" are not my own, so "someone elses fertile imagination" must be a work! While I am not privy to the deepest inner-circle, you know that I am also not completely disconnected. Perhaps more bitter discontent, than fertile imagination, but this was not something that was related to me only once, or by only one source, so it seemed to have it's roots in something other than rumor. The second half of my story (regarding trials bikes in the 70's) was really there to draw some question as to the validity of the first part! It just didn't seem to make sense that American Honda would try such a thing. I am glad you contributed your first hand insight, as my relationship with you, over the years, allows me to take you at your word, on the current situation. - Darrell
  6. Depending on who you listen to, that is why we have no distributor now. American Honda apparently pushed (or is pushing) just such a move, which left the traditional US distribution path without any meaningful commitment, for the long term. Given such a questionable future, the position of "US Distributor" was too risky an investment. Thus, we have none. For folks not already aware of trials, and the Montesa history, there would be no interest in buying some "off the wall" brand, as Montesa, even in a Honda dealership. It would seem logical that the Montesa name would be stripped, and you would be buying Honda RTL models, just as they do in Japan. But, the US dealers (of all Japanese brands) have already experienced the dismal failure (back in the 70's) of trying to sell trials bikes in the American market. And, with only one model, Honda seems the most ill equiped to try such a move. Filling Yamaha dealerships with all the variations of the Scorpa lineup would be a much better place to start, if you were trying to find a market outside of the already existing trials folks. One model of trials bike, sitting in a Honda dealership, just doesn't appear to be a very wise move, on Honda's part. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
  7. The reference is to the homepage design (pictures) changing. Not, that the site is not accessable.
  8. Changed to 4-Stroke 3 years ago. Scorpa SY175F, then Scorpa SY250F, and now Beta Rev-4T. Likewise, won't be going back.
  9. I figured it was easier to just stop using oil all together. Now, I run my bike at a 0:1 ratio, and so far things are fine!
  10. Not "obvious" to me. But, maybe there is only a terminology problem getting in the way here. The terms "Lean" and "Rich" are relative to describing the fuel content only, and not the other components of the charge, whether air, or oil. In terms of a carb, the word "Rich" means too much fuel, while the word "Lean" means too little fuel. So, "More oil in the fuel" means less fuel in the mixture, for each charge passing through the carb, and into the engine. "Less fuel" is leaner, and not "obviously richer". Even IF we allow the terms Lean and Rich to describe the ratio of "petrol to oil", having "More oil in the fuel" means less fuel, so it would still be leaner, and not "obviously richer".
  11. Must disagree with you on this. A carb mixes at a given ratio of air to liquid (vapor) content. Specific to the liquid content, as you increase the amount of oil, you decrease the amount of fuel. Take it to the extreme on too much oil, and there is hardly any fuel content in the mix. The less fuel, the more lean the charge going into the engine.
  12. With the inclusion of trials coverage, the name "Motocross Digital" sounds as if it was a bit short sighted.
  13. I have been wondering the same thing. Pretty poor marketing on Beta's part in that they are inadvertantly saying their 4-stroke isn't good enough. Why an accomplished 4-stroke rider would go backawards, relearning lost 2-stroke skills, just doesn't make since, otherwise.
  14. That, or at least the stickers are!
  15. Ouch! That is the kind of things that you don't like to hear! I have about 10 hours on mine, so far, and no problems. (Knock on wood) In fact, I had a GREAT outing on it today.
  16. Now that brings up some scary mental pictures. Done what?
  17. The good news is that if it doesn't work out well for the trials bike, the Gas Gas riding lawnmowers should be at your local hardware store soon!
  18. Mark has ridden with us for years, and people who know him still ask that question! You should worry about him. Very, very worried! My vote would have to be for Mark, because he is the REAL DEAL! Online, or in person. Not hiding behind an anonymous, (and he slurs like that all the time.) The only guy the can start a thread, drop it, and then pick it up again (under another thread) like you are supposed to remember what he is on about! We love him in Texas! 19. It has nothing to do with 4-stroke versus 2-stroke. It is the Montesa's fuel injection that creates the issue you describe. It is so crisp, and responsive, that you MUST have excellent throttle control in order to ride one smoothly. This skill is something that beginners just don't have. In fact, it is something that many skilled riders still don't have. I have had two Scorpa 4-stroke, and am now on 2008 Beta 4-stroke. Both of these bikes still use carburators. As such, they are a little more lazy in their response, (the Scorpa much more so than the Beta) and that gives you just a little extra time.
  20. Supposedly, there will be none until the US World Round. At that point, the minder bikes etc. will be available, at least. Plans were to try and bring in extras, when the bikes for thw world round ship over. So, you have a long wait, unless something changes!
  21. Ever try looking at their website? http://www.scorpa.fr/ Scorpa has made a wide selection of bikes, for sometime now. SY250R is a 2-stroke (Comes in trials and LongRide models) SY250FR is a 4-stroke (Comes in trials and LongRide models) SY200FR is a 4-stroke SY125FR is a 4-stroke TY-S125F is a 4-stroke T-RIDE is a 4-stroke 4Trik is a 4-stroke
