    250f

Just a couple of days more, and then we will see what its all about! What is the guess? 1) Dramatic departure from previous design (Like Honda) 2) New engine, but with the same basic look (Like Sherco)
  2. Fantic parts are also available from the Tryals Shop. www.tryalsshop.com
  3. OK, all these manual changes, additions, and updates have me wondering about the latest and greatest on my bike. What are the recommended fluid weights and volume for the gearbox and clutch on a 1974 Cota 247?
  4. I once knew a girl like that...
  5. A few leaks in info state that they started with the YZF250 bottom end, and then created a trials specific top end that includes a single overhead cam and 5 valve head. No specifics on carb vs FI, but bike weight is said to be 160 pounds. Anxious for the French world round so we can finally see the real thing!
  6. I can confirm that, as I was in the TryalsShop tent at the Duluth World Round as well. Both Fumitaki & Christophe had sticks between their rear fender and tire to help bend it up into the new position, while the bikes were in the pits. The look is interesting, and grows on you. When I first saw the upward bend on the SY125F, I did not like it. Now that I have been riding an SY175F for several months, the fender just looks "right".

    Which Bike

I have had an '02, '03, & '04 SY250, and they were all great bikes. Each year they improved the engine performance, but not so dramatic that I would say to avoid any of the years. I now have an '05 SY175F, and am very pleased with it. If you are really into having a seat (LongRide), then I would suggest that the seat available for the SY125/175F is a lot more functional and comfortable than the one on the SY250 LongRide.
  8. Because the recommended stock plug is hard to come by in the U.S., I tried a number of different cross referenced plugs in my SY250's. I was very happy with the NGK Iridium (BKR6EIX), and recommend it highly. One of those "change it once a year, whether you need to or not" items. Well worth the cost.
  9. I second that emotion! I have owned an 02, 03, & 04 SY250. Currently, I own an 04 SY175F.
  10. I hear next year he's going to try it on a Scorpa Well, if he is going to ride a 4-stroke, you can't blame him for wanting to move over and ride the best.
  11. Doug, Yours has the aluminum tube, slow turn, version because I fitted to the bike after receipt. Didn't come that way stock. The aluminum tube is a better unit, and it typically fast turn. I get the slow turn version from Mike at the Tryals Shop.
  12. Many things, I am sure. One of which is to work with Scorpa/Yamaha on the new 4-Stroke trials bike. He has been involved with that for some time now.
  13. I am glad you mentioned the slow throttle, as I have been considering doing the same. I have alway run slow throttles on my bikes, but did not immediatly consider it as a need on the 175. But, the way the power comes off idle (slow rpm) is pretty snappy. Combine that with the clutch, and it does make things a bit jerky. Mine has the hydraulic clutch, but is not as smooth as I would like. Magura has a new batch available that has undergone a bit of redesign to make them work better on the SY175F. I have one on the way, and am anxious to give it a try when it arrives. If I can get the clutch action sorted out, then I think it will be a great bike. I love all of it's other characteristics.
  14. Just that simple. Be sure to re-jet your carb and do the exhaust modification as well. These will make a major difference in the performance of the bike.
  15. A tool is the proper way, but is not necessary. A large diameter punch, with a flat end, is all you need. Place it against the lower ring, and tap it loose with a hammer. Use the same to spin the rings around to the desired position, and then snug the bottom ring up tight against the second ring, to lock it down.
  16. The Tryals Shop carries both vintage and modern parts for Aprilia, Beta, Fantic, Gas Gas, Montesa & Scorpa. Link: www.tryalsshop.com They are running a heck of a deal on their "Crash Pack" right now. Only $88.00 US
  17. There is an article on the SY175F that appeared in last months Trials Competition Newspaper. A copy of the article is available here on Trials Central. Link: www.trialscentral.com/cms/showarticle.php?articleID=1038

    125 F

Just as an FYI... Going to 170cc requires stroking, as well as boring. The 143cc kit is currently the largest, based upon boring alone. You can get to 160cc with just a bigger bore, but fit the cylinder back on you have to split and machine the cases to accept the larger diameter. The Scorpa factory is currently producing the SY175F, which has the 143cc kit already installed. It is amazing how much difference the increased displacement makes. I recently received a flyer from a French company that is advertising 200cc and 240cc (I think it was) kits as well.

    Disc Sizes

I once knew a girl like that.
  20. She comes standard, but appears to have added some aftermarket parts herself.
  21. Doug, James used to own a 314, and can give you the scoop. I would not go that route if I were you. Look for a 1999, or later, 315R and you should make him very happy.
  22. What made them think that it doesn't rain in Texas? They should have been at the opening rounds of the Texas State Series this month! Saturday was good, but Sunday was the worst mud since the last Texas National in Muenster. Anyone that was at that event, would have no doubt about the rain and mud in Texas.
  23. He has a part in the old movie "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines", that is funny if you like to old campy movies of that time.
  24. I have owned a 2002, 2003, and 2004 SY250 but decided to go with the SY175 for 2005. I spent the first few weeks riding it without any modifications, but just recently did a rejet on the carb (change from a 13.0 to a 17.5 pilot jet) and removed the four restrictors from the exhaust. The changes really brought the bike to life. I wholeheartedly recommend the SY175, especially based upon your description of what you are looking for. Rock solid, simple, engine design with no radiator, hoses, water pump, thermostat or cooling fan to fail or maintain, and no premix or racing fuel to mess with. The racing model has all the same trick components that the SY250 has, and the rear fender on the 2005 model is much more visually appealing than last year. Go for the SY175, and I feel sure that you will enjoy it.
  25. Our local dealer reports that the US bikes will be imported without any lights, control switches on tha bars, or restrictors of any kind. The money and materials wasted on bikes going to the US was realized, and eliminated.
