  1. Check the timing mark. I am wondering if the timing has been retarded to soften the power at higher revs - perhaps by too much. About 3mm retarded (not degrees) will soften the power. A bit more and it will run badly. You will need to remove the flywheel to check this. Special tool needed (E.bay, a few quid).
  2. Cheap Chinese text editors are rubbish too!
  3. You have a rear tanker, which has a small fuel pump, which is reliable. You will most likely have a tiny split/hole in the long fuel hose which is about 500/600mm long and runs up under the rear mudguard, in a loop. Use ATF fluid in your gearbox and it will cure any clutch drag. .
  4. Wait until your other half goes shopping then bung it in the washing machine.
  5. A 250, with a flywheel weight, and with a low compression head and the timing retarded 3mm. Never ridden a Beta 200. There's one on E.bay at the moment. Been relisted. 3 years old. £3850 - been up to that last time! However a brand new one is only £5500. I suspect the seller is running it up to try to get someone to bite nearer £4000.
  6. Only if you don't oil it every time you wash it.
  7. Electric trials bikes? You see hardly any at trials competitions. There must be a reason. Best learn on an ordinary, modern two stroke trials bike, before venturing into the electric world.

  9. Become a Tory MP and claim for them on expenses. It works for duck houses for ducks, so why not Trials bikes for kids?
  10. One careful owner! Hardly used. That bike will be a bargain for some lucky person when you decide to sell it!
  11. I had a new 2014 Beta Evo 2T 250. The things that I most enjoyed about owning that particular machine were the glass mudguards and jumping out of 1st or 2nd gear, mid section, without warning. Beta may have now spoilt these particular delights of Beta ownership. Or, they may not have.
  12. It could be the C19 setting? They won't run during lockdown. It protect the NHS A and E.
  13. The easiest way is to use a windy gun - air impact driver. Your local garage would have one and for a few beers would probably wizz it off in seconds.
  14. One bad apple will give the rest of the law abiding trials enthusiasts a bad name.
  15. Best advice is to go on Youtube and watch someone do it. plenty to choose from, Step by Step - How to measuring & adjust valve clearances - YouTube

There will be a black plastic tab sticking out of the engine case (stator), on the left hand side of the engine. There will also be a thick black "gasket" which is a spacer.

If it's a bit sluggish, check that there is no flywheel weight fitted and also that the timing has not been retarded, Also that it does not have a low compression head, or a thicker/two cylinder base gaskets fitted. People do these things to slow them down and take the edge off the performance.

  22. Thanks for all the replies. All valid and food for thought. My reason for asking was to help me decide whether to keep it pretty much as standard, or to modify it to make it more competitive or even just ridable in the easiest of sections.
  23. Don't worry about winning - just do it for fun.
  24. When I had a 2014 Sherco St I decided to replace the gear lever with one from Jitsie or some such make. Rode it around the garden using neutral and first gear. It was ok. However, when I went to a trial that weekend, I couldn't get any other gear, only neutral and 1st. 2nd worked a few times, intermittently. The problem was that the gear lever was hitting the engine case and stopping me selecting any other gears. Put the engine case back on, refit the gear lever and see if everything is clear and not hitting.
  25. British bikes. What counts as being a Classic British trials bike? I regularly speak to people who ride Bantams fitted with Yamaha? pistons. Clutches that belong in Yamahas. Shocks and levers etc from China. Greeves bikes that were completely manufactured in the 21st century! How about a C15 with a Honda motor fitted? Or, an old C15 or Cub engine fitted into one of those brand new, light weight vintage style frames? Where do clubs draw the line for entries into Classic and/or "British" trials bikes classes? Any thoughts?
