Acklams sell them (non genuine though i think) if you are in the uk. http://www.acklamsbeta.com/
  2. I believe Andy Huddleston is a Police officer, and i think Phillip Frizzell is in the Army. I think Wayne Holdsworth still rides?
  3. If you want something a bit different, i run a set of realy sweet custom made titanium pegs. Best pegs ive ever used. And if your running a beta evo, can also do hangers, with a custom offset. Not cheap mind. Inbox me if your interested and ill help you get sorted or give you more info.
  4. Its the 28mm and i think it was a 50 slide in there before hand. Thinking about it, a 55 would weaken it over a 50. Deffinatley wasnt hunting for fuel as much though. Go figure !
  5. Always likes the PHBL's. Realy easy to set up, and very consistent and reliable. I think the offset of this is that they maybe dont extract as much performance from the engine as some may like, but more than enough for most. Got the VHST on my 2011, and im not a huge fan just yet. Ive tinkered with various settings which seem to work, but then will start running lean or rich for no apparent reason. Biggest problem i have is it runs very week between an 8th to half throttle. Ive just put a 55 slide in to richen it, which seems to have helped a little. I think it has the potential to perform very well. Just hasnt reached it yet in my case. Whilst on the subject, this is a very good guide to tuning: CLICK ME CLICK ME CLICK ME !!!! I cant remember if it has already been posted on here or not, but there it is anyway!
  6. For me, the suspension (in particular the rear) has always let sherco down. The current front forks seem similar to beta, but just dont feel as good. And i have never been a fan of the olle shock. They are, pardon the pun, SHOCKING ! Id like to get hold of a pair of showas from an old 315. I loved those forks. And am contemplating an ohlins for my bike at the moment.
  7. I was watching the first round of the X-Trial series in the FIM website, and noticed that Albert has something mounted near the frame, just infront of the fuel pump. It looked about 5 or 6 inches long, and tubular in shape. Anyone know what this is? Im guessing an aftermarket fuel pump, or a gas canister for the rear shock. Also, does anyone know what shock he uses? Obviously we dont all need our bikes to run like the pros, but its nice to know what they do different !
  8. I think every X-trial event this year is going to be available live !
  9. Just incase anyone fancies watching a whole load of WTC action all the way back to 1991 !! http://www.fim-tv.com/page/Trial/ Its less than a fiver a month to watch. Bargain in my opinion !
  10. Pretty sure it is a Morad rim. I got my 2011 before the switch, but aint that bothered because ive had problems in the past with spokes snapping on the split spoke type. As for the marzocchis on the SSDT bike, I was told on friday that they have no particular plans to feature on future bikes. Its more down to the recent issues Paioli have been having, not being able to get forks to the bike manufacturers. Id love to see them become a permanant feature though, i do like them 'zocchis! Maybe we will get a decent rear shock too in the future!
  11. A mate had one a couple of years back. We got 2 shercos in there, with a bit of persuasion(swearing), so you will get 1 bike in no probs.
  12. I had one of the first 315's in the country when they came out back in the 90's. It was crap ! The slide stuck and it siezed, and went through 2 gearboxes pretty much. Had it a couple of years, and in that time never once could we set the carburation right. Neither could Sandifords ! That said....Montesa did seem to iron out all the kinks in the models that followed. I rode many other 315's and have to say they were great. might as well have been a different brand, they were so much better than mine. Well balanced, soft power but enough grunt. Great suspension, great grip. Crap airboxes though ! And they went on to be proven reliable. I once observed at the SSDT, and when the back markers came round, i asked if i could ride with them. They said no because the only bikes they trust to get round were TYZ's and 315's. Fair enough!
  13. I had the same thing back in 99. Slide stuck open and reved its nuts off. Dad pulled cap off and it stopped, but it siezed. Sounds like a likely theory.
  14. First off...the front isnt tubeless! All front rims run tubes ! The rear can be a little more tricky. I certainly advise against using any kind of sealant. Im theory it should work, but in practice all it does is create a huge mess to clean off when it still wont seal! If you have an old horrible looking rim tape, i advise replacing it. I believe the new type tapes have the valve built in, which help a great deal with leaks. I used to have a bit of a reputation amongst some riders in the SSDT padock for being able to seal rim tapes quite well. My best advice is to clean the rim, it must be spotless mind, then use a good tacky chain lube all around the well of the rim, and on the rim tape itself. The chain lube is applied with a solvent carrier that evapourates after a short time, leaving the tacky lube behind. What this does is allows the tape to be evenly stretched around the rim whilst it is still quite runny. As the solvent evapourates, the lube goes tacky and helps create a good seal between the rim and the tape. Its a messy job, but once its done, and the bead it cleaned off, it tends to work extremley well. The problem with using silicon etc, is that if it is disturbed, the seal is broken (and it always gets distubed). Tightening a spoke usually ruins the seal if you use silicon. Also, rusty spoke nipples (on the inside of the rim) can cause problems. Hope this helps!
  15. Im confident it will take me from novice to world championship status! I just like messing about to be honest, and everyone likes a bit of bling dont they !
  16. No where near enough room for it at the moment. That is why im going to mount the pump on a bracket that positions it further towards the fromt of the bike. Paxau has done it to wiggy's bike, but i didnt see how he did it. CF tank is only in the thought/design process at the mo. Deciding on the best way to fabricate it. Joining the two halves is the main sticky point. Gonna mock one up in Glass fiber first. Will post the results no doubt. Also toying with the idea of a full titanium frame! I agree about the normal delorto carbs. Super reliable. I dont feel that way about my VHST though, and could do with some more top end at times.
  17. Interesting point about the "sludge". I may take this into acount when i attempt to make my carbon fiber tank ! Filters i am using are as follows: Disposable ones for use between pump and airbox http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280544164562&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT Currently using this one between tank and pump. Its plastic, but its servicable and seems to work pretty well. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270665598238 This is the one i want to fit. Its a nice quality glass one, but is too long untill i make a bracket for the pump. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390209461950 Somebody suggested to me the other day that the airflow from the intake to the pump is restricted, and that an inlet spacer cures it and allows the correct amount of fuel to be pumped to the carb. Dont know how much truth there is in this, but he put a spacer in, and reports much better carburation! If anyone is interested in a spacer i can make them in any thickness. Stainless, alloy, or even titanium if you are concerned about the extra weight ! Neo, you mentioned you run keihins and OKO's. Im thinking of trying an OKO, just because they are cheaper. Any major performance differences ?
  18. Yeah the stock filters are terrible. Mine actually partly melted. Must have some potent petrol ! Ive been looking for a nice inline filter on ebay, that is servicable. Found a couple of nice glass ones but both are too long, and the fuel pipe kinks badly. Im working on a little bracket to space the fuel pump towrds the front of the bike so i can fit a nice filter in there. Also, i was thinking of a secondary filter (a small throwaway one) between the pump and carb, but didnt want to restict the fuel flow too much so didnt bother. I did notice that Paxau has fitted a second filter to Wiggy's bike though, so ive ordered a few off ebay.
  19. I agree. I greased mine 2 weeks ago, everything looks exactly the same as any other sherco apart from the lack of bearings !
  20. If the part number is the same, then they are the same old dogbones. Every new part always gets a new part number.
  21. New shercos have bushes instead of bearings
  22. Had the same problem with mine from the day i got it. Runs fine one minute, staved of fuel the next. Im riding the 290 with the bigger 28mm carb. A buddy of warned me about the carb before i got the bike, as he had one on his beta. Seems the pilot is prone to blocking although i have no idea why. My friend kept going bigger on the pilot untill he had got rid of the problem. He ended up with a 45, having started out with a 33 ! He then found the real solution:- Put the carb in an unused, clean tin. An empty chocolate tin works well. Put the lid on Buy and fit a Keihin Not the ideal solution i know! Im thinking of experimenting with an OKO carb (Keihin copy). I was told they wont fit due to the CDI unit being in the way, but i had a sneaky look at Wiggy's bike the other day, and hes running a Keihin with a modified choke lever.
  23. Tarres was dominant in his day, as was Doug. I dont know of another rider who won a WC event with a cast on his wrist! But i think Toni Bou has evolved the sport an incredible amount in his time at the top. His incredible style of riding has deffinatley rubbed off on many of his competitors, and more importantly, the youngsters, the future world champs. I think hes brought something to the table that no other rider has. So with that in mind, he gets my vote !
