When I was more involved with road racing the club used to run
Forgotten Era which was fine at the start but the class wasn't
growing. So I made it open to different bikes(size/date cut off),
then the moaning started riders moaning that the new bread of
bikes weren't Forgotten Era and started quoting dates and bike
specs.what is and what is not Forgotten Era.Simple fix I changed
the title of the class to Post Classics, the main thing now is that
with the title change most riders are now happy with the exception
of the few.My point is change Pre'65 to British Twinshocks and this
would solve alot of the eligability/cost issues with current Pre'65's
and allow for more Affordable bike, which can only be good for the sport.

Spot on OTF ,lets hope it catches on,then riders will be able

Evening all, spent a couple of hours up the shed the day
working with the easy clutch thingy.Eventually got it to
work .Thanks for all your replies/help .

Has anyone had any experience with one of these badboys, got one today
and fitted to the Bantam(don't laugh) didn't notice much difference.I
tried it in all 3 positions no difference. My friend fitted one to his
James and noticed a vast improvement, making the clutch lighter. What is
the lightest position of the 3 holes?Thought it was a good idea but may
have to mod. the clutch arm instead and reposition the cable .

Building Evo 2 Bantam at the moment and using Suzuki GS125 forks(much sucking
thru teeth and shaking of heads).Bought them of the bay
-
Why don't they just call the Pre 65 class "Classic Trials"?

What I done with my bantam is used the old road sprocket as a
spacer and used long bolts and on the front put a spacer between
the gearbox bearing and sprocket. With my current rebuild I have
machined the front sprocket so that it can be lock tabbed. When
spacing out the rear sprocket you will have to put a small spacer
between the rear hub and the rear brake backplate so it doesn't
rub on the sprocket.

Monty_Jon,having recently built my first D7 trials bike,I used the standard rear
sprocket as a spacer and then fitted a trials alloy sprocket and longer bolts(I
made a small spacer for the brake plate to miss the rear sprocket) cheap and cheer-
ful.Now building Evo 2.-chopped frame/subframe and a few other mods.all done on a
budget in the shed.

Coming from a road racing background the Classics had a set of rules written by the C.R.M.C. which nearly every club in Britain use.It would make sense for trials clubs to do the same thing. When I built my Honda K4 race bike it was straight forward as I knew exactly what to do to the bike and knew that it could be raced anywhere.Been on a few websites trying to find out what I can do to my Bantam but it seems clubs have different specs.,if there was a set of rules/regs that everyone used it would make life a bit easier.

Have you tried Machine Mart.

Been doing a wee bit work on the Bantam and found out the following. Some of it is old information but it might help-starting with the frame:-the top tube can be lowered and the subframe mounting repositioned and the subframe narrowed/shortened.the swing arm can be extended by 1 inch(2 ways to do that extend at the slotted end(put in a fillet) or extend the tubes,if using an early (narrow) swingarm the right hand tube needs to be reshaped where the tyre/wheel runs for clearance.Front forks either standard heavyweight or fiddler type, rear shocks about 13" what you can afford(using road ones at the moment but even on there softest setting are a bit hard),Rims-front 21"xWM1 and rear 18"xWM2.Engine:- plenty can be done but its all down to the coin, with any two stroke a crank rebuid, big bore"don't laugh" the most common way to go is a Suzuki TS185 piston(standard =187cc,+2mm=198cc),the only prob is the small end is a different size(needs a bit of work),noticed that Rex Caunt does oversize pistons(big Bore).Todd head or later center plug head.Gearbox:- swapping second and third gears around makes the box close ratio, fitting a 12 tooth primary crank sprocket.Gearing 13 tooth front and 68 rear.Amal concentric with carb spacer/manifold and K and N style filter.Exhaust ,its recommended that the silencer has a volume of about 2litres and that it is close to the engine also that the exit is half the area off the inlet. Then you have various ignitions to choose from.Hope this is a help to fellow Bantam owners.

Bo Drinker,I'm in the middle of building Evo 2 Bantam at the moment.I have some drawings that I got from a member on this site which gives all the dimensions for dropping the top frame tube(bracing for the headstock),rear subframe mounting/subframe dimensions. Also swing arm mods.I've got a set of Suzuki GS125 forks/yokes(just cut off the lugs for the caliper-only

Hi Steve,
I ended up selling it,preferring to finish of my D7.

The wee Bantam survived its first trial. What a cracking doo, well done to eveyone who organised the event(and Tam Jnr for all his help).Being totally new to the sport I done the white route which was fine by me.Had a couple of wee hiccups with the bike, the kickstart fell off ,and was hard to start when been working hard and getting hot(just chucked a new plug at it and it fired up instantly but took a couple of seconds to clear???)also a wee lack of power-the bottom end is fine but asking for more gas the bike starts to lie down.Glad the trial was on a Saturday as I have all day Sunday to get over it,one last thing I should have done this years ago.

Cheers Brian, looking forward to it.Heard that another ex racer
is giving it a bash "Jimmy Crow".

A wee update on the Bantam, rejetted the carb and took it for a run in
the field next to my house,it ran fine and pulled from low down.Checked
the plug-fine also it starts when hot so hopefully most of my problems
are cured. This saturday sees my first trial any advice(got the Radox
ready ).
thanks for your replies Brian

Cheers Alan and Jack, for your answers. The barrel is cast and I was wondering if painting it with a special paint would help the barrel cool a bit,I remember paint made by Kalgard which helped reduce temperature on old air cooled superbikes??
cheers Brian
-
Turned a cheeky wee manifold extension today on the lathe and fitted it to
the bantam, the bike ran alot better and took longer to get hot.I am new to
trials and was wondering how long the bikes are run,or is there a bit of
stopping and starting(on/off).
cheers Brian
-
Took the bantam out for a shake down(broke the front mudguard ),after about 15-20 mins the poor little bike was getting a wee bit hot and started to die .The bike is running standard ignition,B6 plug, new amal concentric, foam filter.140 main jet,2.5 pilot. The plug was on the light side so probably needs a 150main?, is there any other ways to keep the wee thing cool and where can I get a inlet extension for the carb. as at present it only has a heat shield.

Went for the Pirellis as I,m new to the sport and didn't know any better,If they are not that
great I'll not know any better till I get used to the bike and its lack of both speed and power.
Only cost me
-
Just about got the Bantam finished and was wondering what tyre pressures
to run.My bike is a D7 running Pirelli tyres,I was giving a figure of 6psi
front and 3/4psi rear, but is it ok to run them that low with tubes??

Got a letter a couple of weeks ago from the SACU about my road race licence(not that I'm going to need one) but the licence has been changed to be inline with the ACU.Might be a sign of changes that the SACU are making????Big John I will wait till next year to get my SACU trials licence, going to do the Gifford trail next month as I found out today that I used to work with one of the blokes who secured the ground.Do SACU events cater for novice riders?
cheers the noo Brian
-
Thedbf I would be interested in the trial at Gifford, which club is running it and do I need a SACU licence as I was waiting for next year to get one when my road race licence runs out.
