On a slightly different note was at a classic
scramble yesterday at Whitekirk run by the
Scottish Classic club.Plenty of bikes and the
racing was full on,quite a long lap.Seems
strange that these boys and girls use their
classic irons in anger all of the year yet
classic trials bikes get used once in a blue
moon, with only a few using them every weekend.

From what I heard in the past a lot of the Pre 65 trials where
set out for the minority and not the majority(designed to take
points from the good riders and the average rider toiled so they
put their bikes in the shed and rode over 40's).Lets hope things
change and the numbers start to pick up.

Hoping to have a bash at that too

Front end finished, looking to build a wheel for the rear,
was wondering what width of rim to use?

OTF will keep you posted on the progress of the C15(I suggested a
while ago about a in the shed forum where owners could post
their projects). At the moment its half a rolling chassis.
I would love to do the Pre 65 one day but my original post
was due to the lack of Pre 65 competing in Scotland and its went
a wee bit a stray.Definitely a good idea about doing so many events
in the year to get a chance of competing at the Pre 65.

Sold my Scorpa(another story),but next year when project C15
gets finished its all I will have to ride at Scottish trials.
Was observing yesterday at Monzie with Perth and District and
a couple of the officials told me that they run a few events
suited for Pre 65's so might give them a go next year.

Looks like its a nation wide problem, judging
by other posts. Some sort of Scottish Championship
would make sense, surely the sacu along with the big
clubs could sort something out.Half a dozen rounds
over the year would be ideal.Ian hope the Cubs no
too bad.

Ross hopefully get the C15 built for the beginning
of next year and do a couple of trials with the Classic
Club.It is part of my 25 year plan to do the Scottish 2day
before I'm 70 .

Does anyone know what's happening to the Pre 65 scene in
Scotland.I know of 2 riders who ride Pre 65 bikes at
all the trials I rode this year(I was riding a Scorpa).
There seems to be plenty of twin shocks but the lack of
Pre 65's is noticeable,is it because the trials are being
laid out for modern bikes and are to difficult.I've heard
that some events that are supposed to be for Pre 65 are just
too difficult.Hopefully things will get better and Pre 65 will
pick up.Away up the shed to get on with the C15(at least that'll
be another Pre 65 on the entry ).

Had the police round tonight, they told me that
a lot of bikes are being stolen in the Edinburgh
area as well as cars.So make your shed/garage as
secure as possible.

Cracking looking bike,if you could let me know the length
of the shocks you used please

Was away at the Road Racing at East Fortune, great weekend.
Got a phone call from the wife when I got to my work this
morning saying the the shed where I keep my bike had been
broken into.Luckily for me I have the bike stripped for
servicing so they didn't take it,but they used my tools
to try to remove the door from my other shed(didn't notice
the coach bolts) with little success so tried to lever the
roof of my other shed.I live in Whitecraig,East Lothian,so
please be aware and make sure your bikes safe.

I have a long term project on the go at the moment a C15.
Was up the shed tonight and done a dry build on the rolling
chassis, seems like I will have to increase the ground clearance
as its quite low about 9",not very good. The frame is standard,
front forks are standard,What is the best length of rear shockers
to fit to help with the ground clearance. As I said its a long
term project as I'm enjoying riding my 250 Scorpa and learning
every trial I do.Any other advice would be much appreciated.

Found this on you tube tonight, don't know how
to do the link but type in BSA de trial.

Hi there going up for the Pre 65 then staying up for the Monday
of the Scottish(back home for work on the Tuesday).Could someone
please recommend sections that can be accessed easily from the
main road and not too far of the beaten track.

Had the same thing happen on the Scorpa I just bought.Made up a little alloy plate to the shape of the kick start cut out. Also made a water pump protector using an old heel plate from a Yamaha FZR 400 rearset(simply put a slight bend in it and drilled the bash plate and bolted it on.Not pretty but it works, tested it out yesterday .

Thanks AME,I used some self adhesive foam to make a seal
between the airbox and mudguard. When I was cleaning the carb
I found a blob of water in the float bowl.Hopefully the foam
will help keep the water out.
cheers the noo Brian
-
Whilst I was stripping the bike down I have noticed
the airbox doesn't have a lid.The previous owner had
fitted a piece of rubber only letting about an inch
and a half air intake. Is there supposed to be a lid
or does the seat base seal the box?Since getting the
SY I have also discovered that I still bounce quite
well for a 45 year old .

Recently bought a '03 Scorpa SY 250,rode it yesterday at my first trial,
first time on a proper trials bike, first ride of the bike. What a cracking
bike, will take a bit of getting used too.A couple of quick questions as
I'm going to strip it down and give it a wee service-what number of NGK
plug fits?,what type of oil in the gearbox(TQF)?
cheers the noo Brian
-
Bigger front or smaller rear sprockets=more speed
smaller front or larger rear=less speed sprockets.
Most bikes used for road racing are geared down e.g.
less teeth on the front or more on the back for better
acceleration as most bikes are overgeared for track use.

Was wondering if it could be possible to have a section on
the forum especially for non standard bikes,Specials and
one offs/projects.With owners sharing pictures and information.
Just a thought .

Was helping clear land yesterday for the local wobblers
club. Most of the sections will be using a small burn(rocky
bottom and sandy banks).I'm looking for advice for riding
such sections and bike prep.Any advice would be much
appreciated.

Being quite new to trials(spent most of my time going round in
circles road racing)I'm wondering what the difference is between
Pre '65 and the Specials class?Do the bikes compete on the same
route or do the Specials do a harder route. What makes a bike fit
in the Specials class? Is there a set of regs for both Pre '65 or
Specials?Whilst I was building the wee Bantam I noticed that
Googling Pre'65 rules turned up quite a few variations on specs.
Coming from road racing nearly every club in Britian run the same
classes, why is trials different? The introduction of British
twinshocks could be adopted by all of the clubs as a
feeder/support class(or for riders on a tight budget) then on to
pre'65/specials.Just a thought.Or is British Twinshocks and the
Specials class the same thing?.
anyway cheers the noo Brian
-
Jack the lad, think your missing the point.British twinshocks is a whole new class
and if adopted don't think there will be a need for a special class as all bikes will be built on the spec. Also I said that the new bike is "like night and day to ride",that means its far better than the original.Sorry for the lack of titianium ,carbon fibre, billet yokes, chrome moly frame, fiddler forks, expensive alloy tank and trick hubs Ah! that would be Pre 65 .
cheers the noo Brian
-
Totalshell I built a standard D7 Bantam only mod. was 21"front
rim and a wider rear, only did one trial on it and it was
terrible.Enter Evo 2-chopped frame/sub-frame,Honda XL100
tank,complete GS125 front end(£30 from ebay),electronic ign.,
homemade exhaust all built in a 8'x4' shed with not alot of
money just a wee bit imagination.Still to trial it but its
like night and day to ride and didn't break the bank British Twinshocks is the way ahead.
