  1. Have a look at the Barham web site (Google, Barham mcc) we seem to be getting a few new members,
  2. It's off Eddie Mears just rung me!
  3. No Pete not two sets of rules, idealy one for all but we are all over the place now and out of step with the rest of the world, no one has passed an opinion about my suggestion of a stop is a one, that gives you a chance to finish the section but stiil encourages you to try to ride non stop, as it is now it is quite posiable that a real beginer will not finish many sections, no one can really think this is a good idea, can they? as you say you will have to see what happens over the coming year but every one I spoke to today as I helped set out a trial, said they didn't feel happy with the change, most seemed to think my idea of the one for a stop was worth talking about. anyway I have passed my opinion, we have met a few really nice folk while we were involved, I wish you all a Happy New Year.
  4. Dont get personal, no one has spit their dummy out, no one has had a temper tantrum, just passed an opinion and made a desision not to do something that they dont enjoy any more, not really sure what you mean "only effects a very small amount of people" everyone who rides Trials is effected, if you mean only youth's, well, dont you think it is a good idea to get new riders coming along.
  5. Pete Scorpa 3 You ask what rule would I like to see, well certainly for the youths, stop allowed, we have a fair bit to do with the Kent Youth Trials Club and I think most kids will stop riding Trials if, when they just get started in Trials they 5 everything if as soon as they sump out as they go over a log, get a bit lost put a foot down, wait for Mum or Dad to catch up (with the very small ones we tend to run in front, not really allowed now, no minders) they will just get fed up and that will be that. The six day, the scot etc yes ok, non stop if they wish, not many youths ride in that do they? (I dont really know, as I say we were very new to Trials) but if we push the young people away from the game then it will die even faster, as I said before, if you really want to punish a stop, then a one is what I suggest, if you can then carry on and clean the rest of the section, all is not lost, it is still a test of skill then. I really think the non stop rule is a bad idea. even if the top lads do a few British rounds whats going to happen people get to a section to see the best, and they stop, they then go out of the section and no one see them ride or the first 3 or 4 clean the trial because it has been eased for the new rule and it has to be sorted out by some sort of count back! if a one was the loss then you would still want to keep going, so if the top class was non stop you would still be training for that set of rules.
  6. I have to say, I can see more disadvantages to non stop, than stop allowed, my 14yr old son got intrested in Trials two years ago, he has got better and better and was going to do a championship this coming year but has lost interest now, as he said " I spent a long time learning good balance, now if I pause to change into second for the hill out of a section or something, after cleaning everything up to that point, I may well get a five, someone just walks the bike through, thats a three! I thought Trials was a test of balance and control, not moto cross?" I have been told the change was to get more riders into the British championships, well as I understand it most of the top riders wont ride this year they are going to the worlds where stop is still allowed, I have also been told that the youth series will still be stop allowed, if so, what a mess, do a club championship then do the youth series, rule change, move to the adult, rule change, move to the world, rule change! its not really helping is it? Vince really enjoyed the Trials up to now ( Im not so keen, how can you people put up with the build quality and the importers/dealers attitude, as a road racer, words fail me) but now I think the bikes for sale and we are pulling out of buying a share in a Wood, it is a shame as I think its great for the youngsters to get off the PS3 and out in the freash air but it is very disheartening for them when one slight pause is the end of that section, if you really want to punish a stop maybe a one would be more sense, at least there is some point in trying to finish the section and not just being told get out of the section, you have failed.
  7. You need to split it, its only a couple of hour job, they are dead easy to do, there's nothing to a trial bike engine, the only thing that may be a bit of a prob is the flywheel, if you have'nt got a puller, just give it a good clout on the side with a cooper hammer that will break the taper, the rest is really stright forward.
  8. Done that, it doesn't leak then, I have had it going tonight, at the moment all is well, but it's done this before! It seems better if you only nip the allen screws up, don't tighten them, I think the pump shaft maybe slightly over long! when I got it from Shirts I pointed out it had a different finish, they said that was because it was made by a different manifacture, I assume they ment for gasgas, not a pattern part, If this work's Ill shim it out a bit on the three screws.
  9. Thanks everyone, When I did the mains I stripped the engine fitted new O rings in the head, new crank seals, new small end. All the pump seals etc came from Shirts (when Kev did them, FOC, which was nice) these engines are so simple, Im a machanic by trade so I don't think Ive made any silly mistakes. I dont know what to try next!
  10. Yes the water goes, i only have to run it till the fan starts in the workshop then next morning start it, its milky, I would like to borow another pump to try (worth a try) but I live near Dover so its not a really big trials area, so not many people around here to ask. Thanks for your help, its nice, all Ive had around here is "your wasting your time, if a trial bike is over 3 months old, scrap it" surely thats just rubbish.
  11. Has anyone had problems with water getting into the oil on a 300 gasgas, Iv'e put 3 seals a new shaft, new shims, everthing but the body! Kev at gasgas looked at it, fitted new seals and impeller again, was ok for a day. Kev did say he thought the the mains were on the way out, so I did them. Iv'e had the bike just over a year it's a 04, it had had a hard life so I had to do a fair bit of work to it then, including a water pump seal, it has been ok untill now! I don't know a lot about trials, I only got into this as my 12 year old got interested, he has a 125 Beta, Iv'e done more road racing, we have a lot of fun, do a few trials, but Im loseing intrest, both bikes give so much trouble, do I need a Scorpa or montesa (Jap engine) to be able to just come home wash them off, bit of a grease and oil up and look forward to next time?
