By chance did you leave the fuel tap on when you last used the bike? If so turn fuel off take plug out and kick over few times then leave plug out for 30mins fit new plug then start as per normal

Think it takes 500CC of oil, but just check the sight glass

1st thing I'd check is that you throttle cable is free not just on carb end sometimes when you remove carb the calbe comes lose and slips out of throttle holder then when you re-assemble bike the calbe out gets caught on the retainer on the throttle (the one at on your handle bars) because the outer sheath gets caught up it effectively opens the carb to full throttle because the inner cable has to cover a greater distance. All sound very complex some how but its really simple, make sure you throttle cable outter is seated properly both end!!

Another suggestion, take off you exhaust (front section) from engine to centre, and have a look down to see how much the bore has reduced due to carbon build up, I had abount 5mm around the entire bore. 1hour in the garden wiv blow lamp and air compressor and all clean! engine revs much better, doesn't bog down so much now.

Hi mate, Oil - use atf fluid (I use dextron ATF 3000 or 4000) it makes your clutch work much better (less drag), also look at the clutch plate mod in the "sticky" at top of page. As for the wheel bearing if you remove them you should have a number stamped on them, take these to any bearing manufacture and the will swop you a fully working brand new set for about

Hi, mate where abouts are you from in south wales?

Ah it's amazing what a bit of common sence achieves!! All sorted! think I may of wasted some money on some new handle bars I think!!

Well, I've managed to bend my forks, bit of a hard hit into a wall I was trying to get up, didn't get the front wheel high enough. Anyway thought it was the bars, just changed them and it's still out, but cant put my finger on exactly whats bent, wheel is out to the left by about 5-10deg. It's a techno 1995 last of the upside forks I believe, will other years models fit my bike? As parts a quite hard to come by Thanks

FOA Dan Williams where did you buy the mikuni carb from? will the 96> fit same OD's on pipe work? Also do you know off had what the model number is? and last but not least did the standard settings suit the engine? Thanks

Changed the plug today, started up and runs fine, although I'm a little dubious that I could put the poor bike performance down to a spark plug, but it seems to work fine, I've just stripped the exhaust of and is currently soaking in a bag of oven cleaner to try and de-coke it, the header pipe only had about 30mm internal diameter where it should have been closer to 45mm, need to re pack the back box, just wondering what to do with the intermediate one as theres no way of repacking that, I'll see how oven cleaner gets on!! Think i'll prepare myself a little tool kit for future rides!! (inclusive of spark plug and bottle of fluid!!) Anyone know where to get one of those front mounted fuel cells??? Thanks

how do I gain access to crank seal, wot has to come off??
-
Well the plot thickens, I've just realised my bike isn't a 1999 but 1995!!! and the wrong spark plug is fitted the N7YCC is currently fit where is should be the Champion RN3C or NGK BR8ES. This will be my first port of call then it will be rings change. Thanks

I was out on bike yesterday, was running great then I ran out of petrol!! (yes I know idiot!!) Anyway, one of the lads I was with drained some from his, then put it in mine and wounldnt start, bumped it but it felt like it was running rich, everytime I opened throttle it would cut out and not re kick. So took plug out cleaned it, quite black and a bit wet, as expected. Then kicked up first kick, then died again. Then pushed bike for 2miles then tried to re start it. It started and I rode the rest of way home. Went to kick bike up again today and started then cut out after 30yards. Took plug out filthy again, black carbon and maybe a little oily?? Cleaned plug and stripped carb and cleaned then started fine and sure enough opened throttle and it cut out again!! Its a 1999 techno 250. Is this common fault? Going to change plug tomorrow and see how I get on. Been ridig the bike for 5weeks with no problems then this happened yesterday!! Oh and prior to me running out of petrol it was cutting out on idle after 1.30hr of riding but would re start 1st kick Any help would be appriciated, thanks

I've recently bought a 1999 techno, which had been stood for a few years so I've stripped top end and repalced all fluids, it now starts first kick rode it for a few hours last weekend when I changed the oil my sump plug was furry! I thought it might be some filings from the clutch plates which i filled slightly but can't remenber if the plates were ferous or not. Anyone got any ideas what could be causing the filings? or if this is normal? Thanks
