  3. I reposted this on the twinshock forum in the hope that someone had experienced the same thing so sorry about the duplication - today I removed the clutch and the outer selector (parts manual calls it Plate-Gearshift ) and while turning the drive shaft I was able to move stopper (cam) and select each gear quite easily. I used some emery paper to take off the sharp edges on the selector and after a couple of tries it appears to be working. Question does this mean the selector and or the cam plate (stopper) are worn and should be replaced or do I just put it back together and hope for the best .

  5. Apologies in advance I did post this in the Honda forum but I was hoping for more response before I pull the engine out and split cases - has anyone experienced this with their TLR "quite suddenly my TLR200 can only select first & second gears. It simply refuses to select third the gear shift will not move up" ie: it moves up and down as normal between 1st and second but refuses to move up into third
  6. That could depend on the bike and so it would assist if you mentioned the bike or included it in your profile - on most bikes the frame is earth (not always) and so the wire would join onto the low tension (thin) wire that goes from the magneto ( etc ) to the coil. It earths the current to the handlebars and kills the engine
  7. Don't just loosen you have to remove the pinch bolt the kickstart will slide off with a bit of manipulation and maybe some penetrating oil. If you feel the need to add pressure prying it off make sure you use a piece of wood etc against the engine case as the aluminum cases mark and break easily. The spring just comes out with the kick start and is easily replaced. Get used to the procedure as you will need to become proficient in this as you have to remove the kickstart, engine case and flywheel every time you adjust the points or timing - which can take 10 goes to get it right the first time. I think I had full flywheel removal, timing adjustment and reassembly down to under 15 minutes at one stage. You had better get yourself a flywheel puller it is absolutely mandatory - commonly available even on eBay
  8. no it wont select third no matter what I try just locked out

  10. Nice looking cases Woody how do you keep them like that when you have an Amal?
  11. belldane can you tell me who did the job on your Amal?
  12. Mine did hit the brake pedal (and broke it) when I first got it and the advice I received was that the start levers bend with years of works and have to be straightened - that is what I did with mine (just heat it and straighten it) and now even with wide pegs I have plenty of clearance
  13. I must coyly admit that when I posted this I didn't take a close look at the self adhesvive backing - when I checked it did look quite robust- I cut the surface back on the tank and fitted them as 6 weeks ago and all is well so far - no sign of anything falling off - but if anything moves I will pour on the silicone
  14. The kickstart lever may need to be bent out a little - heat it first. The 247s take a mighty heave and things start to give so I STRONGLY suggest that you by a compression release that screws into the spare plug hole - these cost around $35 AUD check ebay - but don't delay as stripped starter gears are big - big trouble.
  15. Yes Arnoux - but it's not next day Artarmon to Dorrigo where I live and you are not in Brisbane where my son lives so in this case you were not an option. I have purchased from you before and no complaints - although recently like so many Australian dealers you struggle to compete with UK - it's as if you have forgotten to adjust some of your prices to compensate for the strong AUD. Recently I was looking at pants and I realise you need to advance purchase and hold in stock and pay GST but most of the UK guys have stock and rent and still charge us VAT (even though they shouldn't) and yet even with international postage there is often a 30% plus difference on delivered prices. Maybe it's the importers and if so they need to be taken to task.
  16. I live in a pretty out of the way spot - great for riding but lousy for accessing gear. With the upcoming Queens Birthday long weekend one of my sons was coming down from Brisbane and looking forward to some fun on my TLR. Driving down tomorrow (Friday) morning and Murphy's law kicks in and Thursday morning I discovered that the front tyre on my Cota is flat - it's a very old tyre could even be 1976 original! So trying to get the tyre to lift over the rim - it just falls apart on the lever. Nearest big town = Coffs Harbour - population 60,000 no tyres. I got the name of a couple possible sources in Brisbane from our local trials mentor-in-chief Greg Harding but alas they had none. I then spent the next hour + calling bike shops in Brisbane looking for a 21 inch trials front - with nothing but blank stares in reply ( over the phone) until one guy said try MX Factory on the Gold Coast. Turns out Jason had been a keen trials rider he rang the importer where he had a mate and the mate could bring the tyre home from work so that my son could pick it up on his way south in the morning Then he compounded his beneficence by giving me a discount Jason said if I need help with trials gear give him a yell - and I most certainly will - http://www.mxfactory.com.au
  17. Well I have bought a lot and as I say I have a 100% positive feedback and my wife sells stuff all the time and I have never experienced this - but even so all it took was for them to double check and say "oh we are sorry that was a mistake, would you like your pants in red or blue?" ...but they just ignored me and still are ignoring me - and they are a very actibe eBay power seller - obviously doing too well to be bothered with customers
  18. OK we all know Brits aren't renown for their happy disposition or great customer service - although I have nothing but praise for Normam Blakemore at NJB and the guys from tytrials.co.uk - they have been great. But recently I have been looking to buy a pair of pants and MotoxMatrix (on Ebay) had a range of what I thought were suitable so I contact them via eBay and asked them how much for postage to Australia ... a fair question and I got response from a Suzi quoting 14 quid - no problems the item was listed for 20 days - I took my time and eventually I decided on the pair I wanted and clicked Buy-Now ...... bid rejected!! Tried again...bid rejected . I sent them a message and they responded "you are on the blocked list we only put people on there if they bid and do not pay? I'm afraid we cannot take you back off" to which I replied "That's ridiculous I requested a quote on postage ... I have never bid with you - I have 133 (eBay) deals 100% positive feedback" - that was last week and no response. Now it's not that they rejected my bid or incorrectly accused me of bidding and not paying - I am P'd off that they don't have the common courtesy to acknowledge they were wrong - let alone apologise. So I have no qualms about naming them and my advice to all non UK buyers is don't ask MotoMatrix for a quote on postage - I know I won't!

    TLR 250

I would still remove it and clean everything to ensure that you have a good earth - make sure there is clear metal (not painted) connection to the frame.

    TLR 250

Pull the seat off and check the connection for the earth - that's exactly how a loose earth bolt will behave.
  21. A while back I fitted a pair of wide foot pegs to both my bikes but on the TLR200 the kickstart hits the peg - it wasn't an issue as the peg was pretty tight and would stick in the fold back position out of the way. Downside was every time the peg hit an object it would stick and my foot would then be flailing around looking for the folded peg. So I oiled the springs and now the pegs are flicking back with alacrity - but now the bloody kickstart hits the peg. I have a 3 inch piece of number 8 fencing wire that can be hooked onto the peg to hold it but it is very clumsy and tedious as it has to be engaged by hand and that isn't always convenient. Idea's anyone
  22. Who shipped you only one boot ????
  23. First thing I did was treat the boots to a good coat of bees wax and no problems with stitching or water
  24. Sounds like the same crowd who took 8 days to put my purchase in the post because they reckon they had under-quoted on postage to Australia but at same time they still charge the VAT and for several subsequent inquiries when I ask "how much without VAT" they simply don't respond - I am not sure why we can't name them - we certainly name good suppliers so why not do all of our forum members a favour and save others some grief. Besides if they are outed they then may be forced to pull up their socks or put up the shutters.
  25. I picked up a pair of Diadora Stone 3 for a bargain recently (run out stock) they are very comfortable - lovely soft leather.
