  1. Next ones on the 13th I think, near Nelson. They're really good. I got the 198b off ebay, its good and rideable (needs shocks and tyres) but a bit tatty to look at. I'm going to ride it and maybe strip and paint next year. Its not that much different to the 158 funily enough - but I think my 158 has been tucked at the head stock. The 198 is a bit lighter and the gearings lower, engines pretty much the same and the suspensions softer (like your 340). I cant afford them both so Im going to have to sell the 158 at some stage soon.
  2. Cheers Pat. When are you going to get to a red rose trial or are you waiting for Leisure lakes to come around again?
  3. Ive checked and it looks exactly like the one pictured by PSchrauber but only has on set of teeth. I suspect its a Pursang with half the sprocket machined off to suit the Sherpa single chain. I haven't really ridden it much yet (other than a short session at Cown) so will be interesting to see how she goes.
  4. Bondy, do you have somewhere in the Liverpool area that you use for vapour blasting mate?
  5. Yes, it looks like that one - but Im on a single chain. I wonder if half of the sprocket has been machined of if its just been left and run with a single chain - ive re-fitted the clutch cover but will take it off again as Im curious. Thanks for everyones help. Stu
  6. heres a picture of it... http://www.flickr.com/photos/76022002@N08/6933266852/
  7. Hi Woody, its the drive side crank weight. Its about half the width of the one on my 190 - so seems like its been modified then. Only bought it fairly recently so Im not sure if its been breathed on by Vasquez or Puma but I doubt it.
  8. Hi, Ive got a 198b and the flywheel seems to be about half the thickness of my older 190 model. It may have been machined down but if so, its a good job as it looks 'factory' if that makes sense. Does anyone know if the 198b engine was any different than earlier models? thanks Stu
  9. Hi, does anyone know the standard carb jetting for a 349? Is a 3.5 slide correct? cheers
  10. Hi, What are the best settings to use for points gap and ignition timing? many thanks for any advice

  14. Hi, How much and what type is best. 1980/81 349?? thanks
  15. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Montesa-Cota-348-349-Trials-Decals-Stickers-twinshock-/190647935404?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item2c6380a1ac Looks like these guys do them on ebay too.
  16. Hi Chris, my dad has a tank/seat unit for sale if you need it. Send me a personal message if you are interested. cheers Stu
  17. Thanks for all the comments. As 'feetupfun' says the reed would be not be to achieve more power (in fact becasue of the port geometry with a reed it could easily make less top end power) but it should make the low down running better. Think I will try it without modifying the barrel and then I can do a direct comparison. Im not expecting the bike to be ready for several months but I will report back with results for anyone interested.
  18. You're probably right Woody, easy to ride = less marks lost. Thanks for the advice.
  19. The 'vesty replica' at Telford had a reed valve conversion. Has anyone any experience of the effects of this mod? I'd expect smoother running at low revs because of cleaner low down carburation...anyone ever tried it?
  20. Hi, Does anyone know if there is a difference in the porting between the later 325 and the 340 barrels? Was it simply a bigger bore? many thanks

    198b

No idea but thats what it said on the advert....built by Keith horseman it says. Reed valve conversion and flat slide carb. Will try to post a pic.
  23. Just to add that although Ian at Classic Brake Services does a lot of brakes for classic road racers, he actually rides trials and so understands exactly what is required for that application. Proper job.
