  1. Ok so here come the noob questions lol....What position do I want the fuel dial (probably not the right name) or the choke in? Hypothetically speaking and assuming I got some maintenance done to get it in the ready to go state. The fuel dial has an O position in the center, and if turned left or right, has an S mark. The Choke can go in the down or up position but I know nothing of where either of these need to be. A friend of the family said he will help with some tools to get some work done but he knows as little as I do and I want to get it going by this weekend if at all possible. What else does a complete noob need to know to get the bike going? Sorry for my lack of knowledge I want to learn as much as I can anyway I can.
  2. Thanks for the input guys it will really help me a lot...I'm sure I will have many more questions. So today I just decided to mix up some fuel and see if I could get it started...Fired up in less than 7 kicks can you believe it! But I already ran into 1 problem. The accelerator handle will not twist/turn however you want to say it, so it just sits and idles. I didn't let it run it for very long but before I killed the engine, I pulled the clutch in and when I put it in 1st gear, it jumped forward and died before I even let the clutch out. Could the clutch possibly be shot? I know the cable is in need of replacement (torn a little bit but still functional) and I do have the replacement but once again lack the tools and knowledge. Need to see if I can find a Bentley manual or similar if they make them for this model maybe that will help a little because I am a complete noob starting fresh. I REALLY want to get the bike going myself so I don't have to pay for any maintenance. People in my area haven't been much help on some local forums and tell me my bike isn't worth the trouble but it has a lot of sentimental value and even though I'm 27, I know it can still be a fun little toy .
  3. Hey everyone this is my first post so I hope I am in the right area. I just recently acquired my TY80 that my Dad bought for my sister and I when we were kids. It has been well over 12 years since it has been touched so I don't really know where to begin to get it started again. I don't even know the proper mix of fuel/oil I would need to run it. I lack the knowledge and tools to tear into it. Thought about taking it to a dealer but don't want to fork out too much cash for something I possibly can do myself. Here are a couple pics of my bike. A little beat up from me wrecking a couple times but not too bad of shape. Not even sure of the year but from others I have seen similar, I am guessing 74-75. Any help is much appreciated and I look forward to meeting new people.
  4. Hey everybody just dropping by to say hello as I am new to the forum. Just dug out my TY80 from over 10 years of storage and know nothing on what I should do to get it going again so that's why I came here! Hope to learn a lot and share my trials experience.
