kickstart spring needs looking at ,also the ratchet spur needs to be in a pacific position to give the correct spring tension if not correct you could crack the side casing ,,,you might have a good spark but could be loosing it under compression ( use a car type strobe light with plug in to check ,, if no spark replace points and condensor preferably with one from a car and put under tank

yes you can start in gear with clutch held in it sounds like your clutch is not disengaging ,if its not this will cause selecting to be difficult will be hard to hold back when sat still or push backwards in gear clutch in ,the clutches on these are quite heavy have you got a good length lever and not a daft shorty ,( sounds like you have a problem other than a lever though ) has clutch arm been modified ,i use an easy clutch helper makes it much lighter manual states sae-10w30 i use atf which seems fine 900cc 30.5 usa floz 31.5 gb fl.oz this does lube the clutch i use 90 to 100 ml synth to 5l

you probably will need to use an impact driver or a heat gun to loosen the locktight

that was worn out like ten years ago absolutely no grip offered by that ,it has also already been turned , the difference a new tyre would give would be like chalk and cheese , we in uk in wetter parts purely rely on the sharp square edge of the nobbles but also depends how good you are ,,,, also looks like you ride on hard terrain you might be better off with a dunlop the x light might be a bit soft and very flexible side wall which might suffer from damage easier if lots of hard use in dry rocky conditions
-
yes you can get pritty much all the amal parts try burlen ltd
