  1. I would think that the benefit of not having all the crud getting into the filter will outweigh the possible lack of breathing

try mountainbike jackets - they make some good ones but watch out as many dont have pockets check out www.chainreactioncycles.com (see below) - I just got a waterproof breathable 'raceface' jacket - it good gear for trials, strong with zip open vents and 100% waterproof (so far). http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/viewpro...ts&ModelID=3212
  3. Very difficult going back to hard routes once you take the 'B' lines - ride the hard one but just be careful on the big steps - its easier to take a 5 than recover from broken bits. And you will always know that however bad you do on the A route youve beaten everybody that rides the B
  4. ive never had a spare back wheel - you get 30mins in the morning to work on your bike - what i do is whip the wheel out and hand it to a mate/wife etc to take to the dunlop van and get a new tyre put on - they take 5 mins and your back fettling your bike. no sweat. one other tip is to put a bit extra air in your back before the long road sections - esp on thurs morning - harder rear makes the bike go faster- less drag and less wear on the tyre. but remember to let it down before riding Chairlift !!!
  5. waht about Scotlands own GMcD?
  6. To finish the Scottish you have to look after your bike
  7. you wouldnt mind paying good $ if the stuff was a) well made waterproof/breathable c) offered padding/protection where you needed it compared to equivalent mountain-bike or ski gear we are being ripped off check out www.chainreactioncycles.com - I just got a waterproof breathable 'raceface' jacket - it good gear for trials
  8. Right, went down to the local hospital and got a bed. I think i need some help what do you do with this bit.. she keeps asking for a bedpan and a little drop of stout?
  9. (Timp @ Jan 10 2004, 10:21 PM) if you ever get as much experience at trials as Dave Thorpe has you will be a very lucky man. He knows what he's on about. have you seen him clearing sections (of stones/boulders) - i'm suprised he doesn't get a job with tarmac
  10. I dont think anyone is doubting that bikes are much superior in every way than they were 25 years ago - but what will they be like in another 25 yrs? Electric motors might be a way to go - lightweight power sources will be available in 25yrs to power electric bikes for hours- electric motors are smoother, rev higher and are more efficient, need no gearbokes and minimum transmission. I wonder if there will be a class for watercooled twostrokes in the pre 2000 scottish-two-day in 2035? will we have any petrol?
  11. A guaranteed cure - if this doesnt work i'll give you your money back buy a montesa
  12. just a KTM supermoto, a sherco, a myford lathe, a lawnmower, a small chest freezer, and 23 pots of half used paint.

    Any News

tis going to be bloody expensive Ishy - I think you should withdraw your ssdt entry to give us a 270/414 chance instead of a 270/415 chance - every little helps.
  14. a lot of good simple ideas been posted - the trouble is manufactures dont seem to listen to joe public when designing comp bikes - why are seats so low? its only the likes of Dougie that really needs them like this - i rode an old fantic twinshock the other day and was amazed at how the high seat actually helped riding - more leverage from your feet/legs and if in bother you sat down and got the feet down - where on a modern bike you just spun out and fived - higher seats mean higher air intakes and more room for bigger fuel tanks. we are brainwashed into wanting bikes like dougie rides where what we need is something different
  15. a friend of mine went into a bookies in Inverness last year and asked for the odds on gary mcdonald winning the ssdt - the bookies said "ssdt -never heard of it mate" - what hope have we got?????????????
  16. well then, who did win - i assume it was the english odd shaped ball kicker but then that was a forgone conclusion - I voted for gary mcdonald but they had never heard of him. maybe next year............. :madsanta:
  17. Tried to log onto TA (sorry i mean "that other site") but it seems to have gone into cyberspace - any idea wots happened?

    200 V 250

Am i right in thinking that the sherco 200 is just a bored out 125? - if so do they stand up to it ok? especially with some of us clubmen who enjo y pies
  19. It is soooo common for off road bikers to have damaged their knees - when I eventually got to see a specialist (NHS) and he heard i rode off-road bikes he threw his hands in the air and said there's only one thing worse than that and thats skiing - when i told him i did some of that as well i practically got kicked out of the door - what he did say though was thta braces are not the answer - they can help support the knee but there is no better way than to build up the muscles - if you rely on braces too much it can have a negative effect. he seemed to think that unless you go for custom built ones there was not that much benefit. It has to be said that he was talking about my ACL damage - other injuries may be different. keep at it - i tore my ACL 20 years ago and am still riding!
  20. yup but that was when you had 29 superhard sections every day - if you only have 3 or 4 and left the rest as the good mixture it currently is, it might work - the clubmen are going to five the 3 or 4 hardest sections each day anyway - making them even harder wont make any difference to them.
  21. how about a few mega-hard sections each day - that might get the dougie lampkins of the sport back to the scottish - it would be great for the spectators as well. - any thoughts?

    200 V 250

yup - probably right, its just nice to have that little extra on the moors - jumping ditches when you're in top is a lot easier on a bigger bike. saying that my sherco 500 is a little heavy on the front end!
