Well if they officially made one then my mind's at rest. I was going by the Beta website here, this is my bike (although mine has silver forks..) the 270's didn't get listed until '99 spec : http://www.betatrialuk.com/content/view/77/51/ Techno 98 - manufactured approx. Sept 97 - Aug 98. Engine sizes produced 125cc 200cc 250cc I've actually found an online 97/98 workshop manual that shows the 270 motor although it's a bit poor quality, does anyone have a manual they could link/send? Cheers

Hi Collecting a 1998 Beta Techno on the weekend, I'm pretty sure it's a 98 with the Dougie Lampkin replica black/white/silver colours rather than the purple 97 model but it's advertised as a 270, can't find ANY 1998 Beta 270's, only 250's. Could it be a 270? Any way of telling externally? I'm not fussed either way but just wondered on the cc. Also it has silver forks not gold if that helps. Cheers

It's got a saddle, I asked about it thinking it was a home made thing but it's something from America apparently. Suits me, I like a sit down now and again

Another question, what is the second screw on cap on the tank, is it for 2 stroke oil? Thought they were premix?

Hi Guys Still looking for cheapish starter bike and came across a Beta Techno 270 yesterday, looks in good condition from the pics. I appreciate a 270 is probably not a good capacity to start out on but I do have a little off road experience and would take it easy. Are there any specific weaknesses on this bike to look for? Or common mechanical issues on say the 270? And I presume there is a 270? (wondered if it was a 250 overbored) It's described as a Dougie Lampkin replica, again not sure if there is such a model. Looking for a light bike too, maybe they all are, but wondering where the Beta Techno sits mass wise. Bit of a novice so any advice greatfully received. Cheers

Thanks for the input & info, I've made the guy an offer & will wait to hear back. It's a bit of a distance for me to collect & about 12 gallons of diesel so I'll be pretty much committed to purchase once I'm there unless it's a total mechanical disaster. I'll make sure to check all the points mentioned though, thanks

Spotted a low use 1999 Bultaco Sherco 250 in my price range, seems to have been stored for 10 years and only used for 1 year, bit worried about perished seals due to storage but any major faults with thse bikes? Are they notoriously difficult to ride for a learner (me) etc? And any other thoughts? Thanks Couple of pics :

Excellent tips & charts, thanks for those. Never thought of the syringe method, sounds relatively pain free, think that's the route I'll go, great tip Don't have a proper trials bike yet but gradually getting the picture (ie didn't know about the pre-mix!) Another thing, looking at various pics, is that the gear lever seems way forward from the left footrest & unreachable, how do you go through the gears seamlessly? I've got a Beta ALP at the moment, sort of trail/trial bike combo, but want to try a pukka trials bike at some point.

Thanks for the info. Is it a bit of a job the pre-mixing? Or is there a standard set of equipment/measuring vials/shortcuts that everybody uses? I mix about a litre at a time now and again for the strimmer & leaf blower but it's always a bit of a mission trying to work out how 40:1 into a 1 litre container works then measuring the required oil etc, just tend to guesstimate and suffer the resultant smoke. What's the standard drill on mixing for trials bikes? Gallon at a time or do a batch the night before an outing? (I'm used to pulling in to the petrol station, filling up and riding off... spoilt )

Quick question, are 2 stroke trials bikes generally pre-mixed fuel? Or do they have a seperate oil pump ala road going 2 stroke bike engines? Cheers Si

Excellent, thanks, I'll have a go at fitting it in the week. Do people still use washing up liquid to aid the tyre over the rim or does this promote tyre slip on an off road bike?

Hi Guys Recently bought a Beta ALP trail/trial bike and it's a fabulous little bike & in great condition other than a fairly worn back tyre which initially I wasn't too fussed about but spotted an as new tyre on Ebay the other day and won it for
