tahoe
I have the same considerations as you. I broke 4 toes in 5 of road riding when i hit a stump at speed. I've also ridden the Scottish a few times and it turns must trials boots to chamois leather offering little protection
at all. Boots have got worse over the years offering less and less protection.
The best trials boots are Alpine star without doubt. They offer decent feel as well as far better protection and support than the others.
Many of the other boots look like they are made in the same factory with different branding slapped on them. I dont know this for sure but I really wouldn't be surprised if all of the other trials boots were made in China at the same place . After all , all these companies want is profit.
Forma boots are about 100. The Gaernes look almost identical but cost way more.
I'll had them all and am convinced Alpines are the best

Wow , what a creation. It looks gorgeous and would be a real pity to paint it.
-
biffs your spot on there. It happens this time every year on TC. Spontaneous mini rioting lol.
-
Dadoff.
You are a pioneer in the new wave of industrialization simplification which will emerge from the constant development of fallible tech and our gathering frustration with it.
If dont feel appreciated , dont worry. In 50 years your going to be a hero
-
Hi Pierre. They dont leak oil , so they're not classed as a classic. No harm done.
-
Looks very nice and Dougie is certainly very confident about it. I'm must say.... that fi sounds very nice. Good luck to them
-
Give me mechanical water pump any day. Electric motors fail much more regularly , especially when they are blasted with muck and water. Like my many many bike experiences with Aprilia road bikes the fancy electric bits are good for a couple of years , then die. It's a pity , there gorgeous otherwise. But I'm willing to give the Vertigo a chance - good luck , but like all progress , it might cost in reliability. I'm cynical about how long they have tested the. whole bike for. Some proto pictures might reassure and show the trials world their not like everyone else and rushing.
-
Don't you just love Copy and paste
-
Fire away with what ? .
Why dont you test them and work it out for yourself. Your an individual and you'll buy what you want .
I genuinely cannot see any benefit in you asking a bunch of strangers a question that your clearly intelligent enough to work out yourself....
-
Not for at least several months
-
Nope , dont think so Ha ha. I knew Paxau had deserted Gasgas with Codina for the new Sherco project and they were pretty upset when the near identical Sherco appeared , conducting a component for component weight comparison. I thought time might have mellowed it all.... but obviously no. I was careful to try and balance the page with Paxaus work / contribution so it didn't all come over to bad . Piber wouldn't agree with my glowing comments . The interview says it ,warts and all.
-
Its not blatantly clear what the difference is between the 2 models other than the styling. I expect the engine performance will be very nice and the best bit about it. The whole package reminds me of the Ossa - a little. "The gear box has been tested for two years" - probably in another manufacturers bike lol.
There's nothing that justifies a crazy high price other than the desire to make their riders exclusive. Bearing in mind the amount of new bikes sold most riders are exclusive anyway on what ever brand they ride .
Overall - very nice but no WOW for me , but i expect to much , as well do , given the hype

"Probably a stupid question but how can I determine excessive plate wear, do I measure them with a micrometer? If so what are acceptable measurements?"
Youll have to find the workshop specs for the bike and compare them with the tolerances allowed using a multimeter. If its been slipping occasionally and then getting worse and now gone completely , its highly likely to be the friction plates that need replacing.
Ive never heard chatter when my plates have expired. I think that the difference in thickness between good and bad plates is so small that it only makes a difference to the clutch performance. Youd not notice otherwise
"The clutch WAS a bit tight (no freeplay at all at MC) when I got the bike so perhaps the damage was done before I owned it."
Sounds like your absolutely right there. This is what has helped to wear the plates out.
Id get those plates changed mate.It is likely to be them. As long as the lever is returning properly and no sticking in place then it will be your fiction plates. Its unlikely that anything has actually broken as you would have felt the fault immediately - From good to bad in a second.
Hope this helps

I have been told that although the GRO oil is excellent in certain circumstances it can make good clutches slip. But it sounds as though yours is likely plate wear. Yes, not many hours but the bike is a relatively new model so expect the unexpected
-
Yes RIP Len . He was a lovely guy and a great rider. He used too shame many modern bike riders on the Matchless , including me. A real nice chap who will still be thought of and who will be missed.
-
Paul that must have been fun !. Piber is a right character as you will know. It was great fun down there.
-
I was lucky enough to get to meet and interview the co founder and the actual boss of GasGas from 1973 - 2010 Josep Pibernat.
It took me 2 trips to Spain to get it complete, because i wanted to get it right , not leave it feeling lacking.
He's a character and a very interesting guy to observe and you cant help admire him. He was the hub of so much of the Retro years.
He was at the helm of the factory from the very start untill he sold out his shares in 2010 growing it from nothing to the biggest player in the industry.
So , this interview is more for people who are interested in what goes on behind the scenes . Its not aimed at a story about the riders , but more the business , the figures ,the factory . I had questions i needed clearing up . Piber doesnt dwell on his answers thinking about what to say and then censoring it to make it palatable , like others ive met.
He just says it as it is.
Piber was very very frank and straight forward with me and it was refreshing to hear.
Its on my hobby website
http://www.retrotrials.com/-exclusive-interview-with-gasgas-founder-josep-pibernat.html
Ive got a lot more ready to go online but its hard to find the time as they keep taking me longer to do (sign of OCD !!) .
I hope you enjoy:)

Yes, were lucky to have so many manufacturers and so much choice.Very lucky.
In my opinion a Yamaha style / type drain screw wouldnt make any difference at all.
If youve got water in the carb then there will be water in the jets and this will need blowing out. ALL of the water doesnt just drop out of the jets or the float bowl , when you undo the drain screw.
So modifying to the Yamaha style wouldnt give any improvement at all.
-
Don't all modern bikes have the central to float bowl 14mm bolt that does the same thing after the main jet is removed ?.
My tuppence is on the Vertigo being Fi but it's just a guess.
-
A babies biscuit with a nice and malty taste.
-
My not very informed guess / prediction -
The importer will with DL
The price will be high and not in line with other bikes what so ever. For the discerning wealthy gentlemen / ladies only .
The bike will be well received and very high tech / different.
Will be made in v small amounts falling in line with the high price.
It will appear in the 2015 SSDT with a number of riders some 70's and 80's school factory riders. All the bikes will all finish and the winner will be riding one.
It will come with thick sturdy plastic wheels as well as a sunblind and retractable polyester roof that can be stored away underneath next to the Farleys rusks if not needed .

They're quite a complicated fork and they also can develop graunching , scraping and sagging problems dropping down an inch or two as the springs weaken.
-
I have the official diagrams and parts list for these forks. Pm me you email and I'll get it over to you. cheers
-
It's the truth as I see it . I get paid nothing at all of any kind . Just putting the record straight . I know your not happy but it doesn't mean others can't be. It's a pity you've got no manners and can't resist knocking a national treasure on this international forum. Anyone decent would have said thier piece to him in person and taken their business elsewhere. Leaving it like that. But your the loud mouth who needs to shout out out like spoiled brat. You should be ashamed of yourself. You just damage.
-
Peter H -- perfectly summed up
Mick -- They're good. Back in 2012 it might have been a worry but not know. You being an old woman . Put your waking stick away .
They're not trying to up scale to GG size taking the debts that go along side this. They're a small , low over head company that make a small number of bikes and have excellent back up here via Steve Saunders .
