Paxau's produces protos , tests them locally as much as he can and then takes them down to the factory.
The factory test and industrialise.
So the question is not for him.
-
Strange as it seems is true. Being tall is a disadvantage in Trials. Even the Tarres family regard Pol as being too tall. His centre of gravity is therefore higher. Whilst there may have been good taller trials riders is better to be 5'7 - 6 max. It becomes clearer when you see a small kid riding They have less lateral leverage on the tyre foot print. It's just physics.
So it just shows how good DL is.
I blame my lousy trials career on this .... and beer
-
A friend of mine who is friends with Paxi completed the interview so I had little control.Id have run longer into the detail.
We wouldn't have got the interview and photos without him so I have to be grateful.
Re the problems - some unnamed supplier or a factory manager would have been blamed. I'm sure about that. It wouldn't have lay at his door , of that I can be certain .
-
Agreed for trials , but not for extreme enduro
-
Ouch... and his results were slipping which upset him.
He gave it all a good shot though didn't he.
I hope his 6'4 stature , balance , courage and fitness do him well in enduro.
I've offered him my Mk11 Frontera foc.... but he's not jumped at. He should have snapped my hand off
-
After disappointing results and disliking no stop Pol is calling it a day. He is looking to move towards extreme enduro and is talking to manufacturers. I think he has a great opportunity to do well here
This was inevitable. There's no point flogging a dead horse and being pi**ed off at the end of each weekend. I am no expert at all , but I have my own opinion of what could have been done to improve and i fed this to them. It was to little to late and the rot had set in so to speak.
Good luck Pol

Dear Friends: After much soul-searching I've taken the decision that my stage in the trial has come to an end. Hasn't been easy to get to this conclusion. The trial to day has been my life, my passion, I've had good times and some not so good but thanks to the people that's always been there for me I've outgrown them. Has taught me to respect my partners, rivals and to appreciate aspects of life as important as the humility, the effort and the fellowship. For some time I feel discouraged, for personal reasons and sports and I'm not happy with what I do. I'm taking the best in the world of the trial, the friends, the rivals and especially a great hobby to which I am very grateful for always being there. Also tell you that it's just a see you later. My intention is to embark on new projects within the motorcycling and the competition, with new spirits and surrounded by the great family that are the ones that we love the world of the engine. I want to thank my family, my friends the help received ever. To all the brands, it has been a pride to defend their colors and especially to trs motorcycles for having done everything possible to ensure that this year has been able to be in the world despite many difficulties. Also to my sponsors for the help that I have received during all these years. And I don't want to forget all the backpackers that during my career I have supported and helped at all. Special mention to Sergio Perez that during these last few years has been by my side and to francesc siurana in this season that has supported me in everything. And to finish a huge hug to all the fans and my followers on social networks, thanks to them I'll come out ahead in this new phase. Simply, thank you all and see you later!

Here is an interview we carried out with the engineer Josep Paxau .
He is the mechanic and engineer who designed every GasGas until 1999 and every Sherco since.
Just by coincidence when we were there , Albert Cabestany's bike was on the bench being worked on and i got some snaps of that.
Pol Tarres also arrived . It makes for an interesting read . The photos of the workshop equipment and all the prototype bikes i think are nice . I put it on my hobby web.
There are hundreds of photos , many from Paxau's archive.
Its starts with the interview and moves onto the workshop tour with Caby's bike

That looks gorgeous. Very very nice and unmolested. Enjoy

The injector sounds like it's at fault. I've had them fail before and they display these symptoms. They are also a moving part so susceptible to wear.
Can't you just clean the carb out ?
-
Sure it can be rebuilt. You just need to find a suitably talented guy who can do it. There is a guy down south who peels open unrebuildable shocks and can service or rebuild pretty much anything. He doesn't need a bolt or circlip to get it into it.
-
At the moment Jotagas are going through the bankruptcy process.
It's to early to say whether the name Jotagas or jgas will continue , whether there will be a modified or brand new bike. I'm confident that the company under whatever name will however continue in the future. I have seen several new models that they've been testing.
It's a waiting game at the mo for information , as I'm guessing the picture is not clear for them either

To my mind Graham is becoming a legend akin with the likes of Malcolm Smith. I don't use that word lightly.
The guy is a winner , a worker. He is not normal or typical one little bit.
We're so lucky to have a guy like this representing us on the World stage.
-
The guy is incredible. Gra is such a hard worker and so chilled out. A true professional with many more years under his belt.In hard enduro skill wins over effort.
All those years working his ass off for MR earning shirt buttons is now paying off on the enduro scene.
Poor old Taddy has had his day up against these boys.
Gra is in a league of his own.
-
Yep agreed. It was a disappointment. Evans was trying to be Clarkson and failing.Le Blanc wasnt funny.I didn't find it amusing or entertaining at all. To similar and boring.

Known for aircooled models , in an almost last gasp of breath both Mecatecno and Merlin produced prototype water cooled trials bikes , desperately trying to keep up with the machine evolution .
Only brief recollections of the Merlin prototype is recorded anywhere . Practically nothing was written, all was forgotten and the whereabouts of the bikes were completely unknown.
Then a friend and avid collector in Spain stumbled across them both in the space of 1 year......and has added them both to his collection. Since then he's researched them both a little more.
When i was down there recently i had to visit them for photos and learn their story.
Here it is , on my hobby web

I've seen this before. They're obviously a bit too light for their own good.
Personally I would repair it or buy a new one and heavily reinforce it with a tig.

The south of England is a great place to do off roading with events on almost every weekend.
Here are 2 more flourishing clubs that are friendly and have good pieces of land to ride on.
Alton mcc - http://www.willbrown.co.uk/alt/
Bognor mcc http://www.brdmcc.org/Homepage.html
They both have events just 30 minutes from Fleet .
Enjoy

I did peel the diaphragm off and there was muck by the tiny float valve . A quick clean and it's now fine. Thanks for your help

In 2015 and then earlier this year i visited Yrjo Vesterinen at Apico. This was followed by a trip to his home and also a look at his incredible private motorcycle collection. I photo'ed everything and its all online now.
There's an interesting detailed career interview in chronological order . There are many many photos of his motorcycles collection ,home , retro trials clothing , even his baby photos + riding photos
Its for trials fans who like the detail and its all typed up word for word , straight from the horses mouth. Ive put it on my hobby web. Due to the amount of content it took a lifetime to arrange.
Grab a cuppa ..... say goodbye to the wife for a while and slip back to the 70's .

If the copper washer that you replaced is thinner in any way then you'll have a problem of the peg binding the selector drum. Best 2 washers rather than 1 thinner one
-
Yes could be Zippy. Today ill carefully peel of the diaphragm and clean the jet. Maybe its partially blocked ?
-
So I'm thinking ... as it only runs on choke , maybe the normal fuel circuit is partially blocked . Maybe this is where the problem lies and the fuel jet is partially blocked. I'll have to peel off the diaphragm to clean it..gulp
-
Hmm. Thanks. I've not seen carb kits for this model.
I'm wondering what is causing the fault . Ie what if blocked or broken ?.
-
I'm not member of any gardening forums so here goes.
I have a Ryobi petrol Strimmer which you can attach mini chain saws to etc.
I laid it up in autumn with fuel in tank. Now it starts but only runs on choke. When choke comes off out dies like fuel starvation.
There are no obvious leaks , petrol looks and smells good. Both pipes running to and from the tank look good. Was working perfectly before laid up.
I took the carb apart and cleaned it and resealed it with gasket sealer, but didn't pull the diaphragm off. It still runs the same.
It's probably a common problem. Have you experience with this and any ideas on what is likely to be causing this problem ?
Any advice is appreciated.

I hope to go but i'm not sure right now. I'm certainly attracted by mud of last year .
