Some small details make all the differance ! adjustable levers , slow domino , (with throttle stop , Trial and error process , but well worth the time !) And a little boys confidence in himself and bike quadruple in minutes !

It's just a moody Italian redhead .... probably (IMHO) one of the highest build quality bikes I've ever owned or seen... But ! The ignitions are getting old , they love fresh top ends , they eat swingarm shafts (without minor mods) , they crack frames right behind the headstock , and they have fantastic engines , like a motocrosser w/abit to much torque !
Mine has falcons , WES progresive front springs , 200 top clamps , trialcast pegs ,(the stock ones are nasty) and more time in it than I can spend , but it will stop and hop and leap tall buildings in a single bound !!! I want a new 4t ,but will never ever let lose of my fantic !
And I've done some spirited trail riding on it and my buddies with big xr's and yammers can never beleive it's only 212cc ...

Try www.nosyamahadecals.com
If he doesn't have them , he can make them .
The best adhesives I've ever seen !
He just made me a set for my fantic after I sent him some peices to copy .
excellent work , and capable of duplicating anything. and his plastic tank stickers are unbeatable !!!

Thats not the problem ... He's strong as a baby OX , the lever is on the stiff side for me too ... I used some stubby honda mx levers I had around 'cause the stock ones are trash . And there is just enough differance in the fulcrum of the levers to make a world of differance on the ty80 type clutch linkage ... ya know DAD's cheap so we run what we've got !!!! and I've got all kinds of stuff ....
Will post again after mods to the bike ...
And I already have to keep it locked up !
Glenn
You can see how short the levers are in the photo , I think they were for a early elsinore !?...
And Tony , I ordered that fuel pipe thinking it was red from the photo ! but purple is your passion , so I'm glad it got used !!!!
-
I didn't even think of the throttle limiter option !!! Thanks for that one !

After my getting the clutch as easy as I could at present , I taught my little one how to ride his "new" bike ...
1; clutch to stiff for small hands !
2 ; Stock throttle (and oe slide spring ) too light ...
3 ; Dads porting and expansion chamber de baffling , extra OOMMPHH ! (will lift the front end in 3rd gear on it's own w/my 200lbs on the seat !)
4 ; Trying to pull in clutch to stop (like DaD told him !) , jerks throttle WFO too ... and crashes into house...
5 ; big ole tear rolling down cheek and first words " is MY bike ok ? " and I have to say , Bike is fine , your not broke , and you will never forget your first good crash (house dented ! )
So I've got a slow turn throttle on the way , some adjustable pivot levers , and I'll put in the new oe. spark arester/silencer guts I've got .(just to mellow it a bit ...) But what a ball the little beastie is to ride ..
6 ; And the look on his face as he made his first lap around the yard on his own ... PRICELESS !!!!!

I know the feelin steve ...
Everytime I get to ride my Fantic , I love it more than the time before ! and I keep coming up w/ways to ad little bits of modern tech to her to make it even better (ie. flatslide and abit of engine mods...)
Glenn
(but I want a scorpa or a sherco 4t too ! )

TOO COOL !!! but wasn't there a hodie model named after a frog ? I always wanted a dirt squirt to replace my suzuki 90 in my early enduro days ...

OK so I was Wrong , ! you rons need to post a family tree so us uninformed know of which Ron we speak of !!! I , at 45 or so rode my first trials event after a 30 year break at shooting creek in NC. w/ I beleive the littlist RON he was maybe 12 or 13 at the time ??? Sept 05 ?
Anyhowws , thanks for the Address ................... And ask your dad (I think ) how is Don Sweet ? Growing up in New England he was my hero when I was 13 or 14 on a New tl125... Best of luck !

learned something new today !!!! thanks greeves ...
-
OOHHH I will ! of course .
-
I'm not sure but I do beleive that the 303 was a reed valve motor ? if it is than no , the piston skirts will be quite different and affect port timing drasticly I would think ... but I may be completly wrong here ?
-
Ron ; is this the same ronnie that I rode with at shooting creek a few years ago ? , That made quite a impression on me with his patience for the old guy on the old fantic ? (me)... If so give him my best and tell him to make us all proud !!!! GREAT KID !!
Glenn
PS... post or email a address so we can send a little support ... just started restoring a ty80 for my 9yr old , so maybe he can follw in ronnie's
footprints . Although if memory serves , your boy has a much better trainer than mine !!! Best of luck ! Happy new year !
-
My youngest , on the day after ... What else can I say ... ? and he stripped it ! (w/a little help ...)
Glenn (aren't ty80's great !)
-
And I thought OE Fantic and TY80 bits were expensive !!!! Does that come w/a worn out RTL to hold the fender up !!!
Glenn
-
And I beleive knobbys have no where near the flexability of our trials tires, Which helps to keep them cleaner in sticky mud , and knobbys
$uck on anything remotely hardpacked or solid !!!! And they are against all the rules... But some of the new dualsport tires might work well...
Glenn
-
Thanks I'll figure it out ! and here is the 1st photo of the resto/hotrod to be , as purchased...
-
Ok here we go with another dumb ? about the ty80 that the answer to should be in the shop manual I just got but it refers me to a old dt 250 manual thinking I'm in a yamaha dealer !How do I separate the fork tubes from the sliders so I can install the new seals I'm holding in my hand ... All I have is a sketchy exploded veiw of the forks ! And I want to know if I need any special tools that are not already at hand ?
Thanks for your patience ...

I just got the best part in the post , most of the other bits are wrapped up for xmas presents... A virgin 1974 yamaha factory service manual... Still in the yamaha logo'd ziploc bag , witha owners manual and warrenty registration booklet !!! Not a mark or blemish on a page of any of the three ! not even any creases from being read ... Sometimes Ebay is a wonderful place ... All for less than a new haynes manual !
I don't think the gent new what he had when he agreed to end the auction early . Shouldv'e fetched alot more than the 35.00usd. I paid for it !!!
Now to work on the bike ! And I got some trials tires on the way too ...
MERRY Christmas to all and to all a goodnight ...
Glenn
The current photo's are to big to upload so I'll take some more BEFORE shots asap... And the manuals ARE MINE ! not for the boys to ....?
-
Isn't the 300 249cc ? Lee will have the correct clues ...
-
And they say a picture is worth a thousand words ....
CLASSIC I needed that laugh !?

I'm trying to locate a 26mm OKO flatslide with a jet set for my 240 pro as my oe dellorto has seen better days.
Does anyone know of a supplier in the states ?
Thanks , Glenn
-
When I got my 240 , I received a complete (in a box ) parts bike to go with it . So of course I built 1 set of forks out of the best peices of the pair . Both of mine are the dual fork seal ealier style sliders , but one set had the short springs and the other the long . I ran the long ones w/ the the short spacer and that was ok . But when I got my Falcons for the rear ,I got a set of WES progressive springs for the forks too.
The wes springs are longer than the long set of fantic springs so at first I ran them without a spacer ... Mistake !#1 I also neglected to bounce the front end hard before final torqing of all the fastners as I had replaced the steering stem brgs. too.Mistake # 2
Mistake #3 , I loaded my bike and drove 12 hours to a event before riding it in the yard to check the suspension ... I rode day one of a 2day event with a bound up bottomed out (rigid...) front end ! Bike turned great but my wrists took a beating ... Loosened axle and pinch bolts and lower triple clamp bolts , bounced bike forks freed up tightened bolts ...Much better but too much sag .
When I got home I made some pvc spacers (just remember to put a flat washer between pvc and springend ) I tried differant lengths of spacers , 11/2 ,2 and 3 inch . It really is amazing what a inch of preload spacer will do w/progressive springs ! My final set up so far is a 1 3/4
inch spacer w/ toyota valve springs under them . NO bottoming , font end and rearend drop the same with my weight on bike and feels better than it ever has for me ! I also run 10w synthetic fork oil and the dmpening seems a bit heavy , may change to a seven weight . But being the crappy ridder that I am I don't think it'll make a differance in my score ......
Glenn , KEEP THE TWINSHOCKS ALIVE !!!!
-
DG & ANDY ; perfect responses !!!! (IMHO)
