    300 Fantic

Steve ; Reading this almost brought a tear to my eyes !!!!!$$$$$$$.................. Glenn
  2. I'd run it at 50:1 till you get the old girl all sorted out ... I run my fresh engined 240 at 75:1 w/avgas(135 octane) and amsoil fully synthetic premix oil and have no problems . but it's always better to run a bit thick if you can and not foul plugs ... And Heath , I finally emailed your freind paul in france to see if he would act as contact for me w/BMZ ! I tried to wire them some money today and found out that the international wire transfer fee was more than the bits I'm after !!! why they won't set up a paypal account is beyond me ! Glenn , Keep The old fantics ALIVE !!!!
  3. You chaps and your across the pond bikes I've never heard of or seen ! I had a tweeked RD250chassis w/abunch of tz parts on it I got from some guys at a daytona speedweek way back when ...I had it right about the time the kawi 900 first hit the scene , made abit of cash stoplight to stoplight .... Well back to the ty80 ! it's a very early 74 model A ....acording to yamaha , and right now I 'm heading out to use my neighbors tig welder and make some real footpegs for the little monster !!!! And I've got some tire's and tubes and cables on the way , and and and and and all the othe litttle bits to make it RIght .. Thanks , Glenn
  4. As that's quite a toll call for me I'll ring the local dealer ! Are there any major differances between a A & B ? And thanks for the tranny info quite a releif to know it's not major BROKE ! Now to find some new tires ... Thanks , Glenn
  5. Hi all , I just bought a ty 80 home to fix up so my boys can ride good old twinshock events w/ me . a few stupid ?'s that I don't know the answer to , as when the ty80 's came out I already had a tl125 and never rode one until a few moments ago !!!!!!!!!!!!! The frame and engine #s match 451-002195 , Can any one tell me what year this is , 80a , 80b etc ? And the real stupid ? .... are they only four speeds w/ neutral at the bottom , or do I need to split the cases and check it out for bent shift forks etc. ? Thanks for any and all responses ... Glenn PS. and yes it is fun , the little thing can even wheelie my old fat a$$ thru a floater turn ! w/a broken footpeg !!!
  6. But you must be real ... The cr125 and 250 changed riding for fun forever , and the yami dt enduro series !!!!!!
  7. When I find the photo's of the box's she came home in I will !!!! (the Fantic ended a 30 hiatus from trials for me ... I didn't even know what a fantic was when I bought her and a spare parts bike for 200.00 usd ! on a whim to get back into trials !some flames never go completly out ! ) Now to lite the flame under my two little boys buts so I can have some practice buddy's !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Glenn , I should have taken more photo's from day one , BUT ...!!! I didn't think she'd be this much fun , yaknow , italian redheads and allthat... But the boys ty's will be documented from day one , and in a few months they will have some brand new ty80's to learn on ... They can only go up in value Right ? (I hope !)
  8. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA !!!!! luv it !
  9. Trialcast , UK . I think they are or were a sponser on Andy's website ... Fantastic Quality and the black ones are nylon coated and are just to cool , Great service and you truly get what you pay for !!!! Glenn
  10. Well I finally broke down and bought some ghost pegs and brackets ! A little cutting and the use of my neighbors tig welder and my old girl has proper modern pegs !!!! I moved them back and down about 12mm too . welding the brackets on parallel to the top edge of the mounting ear kept them level to the ground . And their chain adjuster cams fit the swingarm knubs better than the OE. adjusters did ! A wide footpeg makes such a positive improvement in how the bike feels under me ... Someday soon I should be done with it so I can spend some time working on and teaching my boys about their ty80's I pick up next weekend!!! Glenn
  11. Not sure but I would bet it's a 520 (link size) . but how many links ? I don't have a clue ! You can always take the chain w/ you to the shop and say I need a new one this long ! And don't put a new chain on old sprocketts , it'll all wear out much faster ! If I remember correctly (which I doubt) each outer plate is one link plus the master .... you can always count them ! Someone please correct me if I don't remember how to count chain links ! Glenn
  12. Just a thought as the world rapidly changes around us ... Last week I saw a commercial on TV for a fuel cell powered Honda civic ! As in it's in the dealers now ! All that is well and GOOD as it's no big deal to make a 4t run on hydrogen , just getting or making the hydrogen is the only issue . But can you make a two stroke run on it with decent performance and durability ???? inquiring minds want to KNOW ???? And I understand that fuel cells =electric motovation , but as I'm sure most of you across the pond already know , mazda is doing quite well with a rotary hydrogen powered RX-8 , and BMW may release a hydrogen fueled car late next year ... I'm wondering about the thermal effects of hydrogen vs. 2t use ? or would it just detonate in the crankcase ? I wonder because the best hydrogen fuel engines so far are direct injected 4ts , eliminates combustion in the intake ... Or could you inject it into the transfer ports and make it work ... hhmmm , I've got a spare running 240 engine in a bare frame , Big fantic fins for cooling ... OK , my mind is wandering now , time to break out the cad program and start playing... Liquid or gas ? decisions decisions !!! Glenn
  13. A little tact is all that is really required ... The hell with political correctness , there can be a time and place for almost any joke , BUT as the old saying goes , Don't mention my kids ... And besides most politicians are truly jokes anyways , Look at Hilary !!?? Two faced or what ? or as she so elequintly puts it "I just don't recall ..." Glenn And the irish joke has been around for years in one form or another , but still a chuckle. Smart kid , ?
  14. I beleive ... that all of the minerali ? engined bikes , 50 , 80 , 125 , and the 200 have the hub set up as you wish . The 240 and 300 had the sprocket and brake both on the right side , with the forward kick Fantic FANTIC motors... I think ... Glenn
  15. And the (old in years only...) gentleman may be able to pull it off !!! To bad he lives about 2500 miles away from me , not only entertaining company , he can steer his old beasts too ... I wish I would have more chances to ride with him . A class act . Glenn
  16. Yes , just go to the link and see all about Mr. Downs creations , I never got a chance to try the Ossamaha , But I'm sure it would have been sweet as well !... Glenn Check out the ITSA website , bike of the month features , the Ossamaha is shown there too !...
  17. Alan , you should have come over to the trusty fantic and said hey !!! I saw you out in the sections now that I see the bantam photo ... and as always it seems I had the only fantic present ... Lack of fork preload or not !!! Did have a ball for sure , The Guru's rides are always a total class act , and well worth the 11 to 12 hr drive I make to get there !!!! Glenn
  18. Hi All ; I just got back from the North American Twinshock Championships and I have to say that besides having a great time and not crashing , that I got to ride a work of art !!!! a 1960 royal enfeild bullet ... although trimmed down to well under 300 lbs , and a work of art in everyway , WHAT A MONSTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you could plow feilds with this beast ! But I must admit it is the most comfortable trials bike I have ever riden , the stance can only be summed up as perfect !!! Here is the one photo I took of it , but the build process can be seen at www.twinshock.org on the photo page under "reshaping a bullet " More torque than most tractors !!! Glenn
  19. I for one started riding trials in the 70's , as a extention of enduro riding... Then the tl125 was released and the ty's , rl's and the kt's and Trials was supposed to be the motorcycle sport of the future !!!! Low noise levels , enviromently freindly , easy to spectate ...few if any serious injuries, lower liability for promoters ... And the skill and finesse we all do it for . and the fact that if you can become a competent trials rider all other types of motorcycle riding get easier !!!!???? But then after moving from new england to cali. in the late 70's , And the birth of stadium moto x , and this kid named marty smith ? on a elsinore kicking everyones butt for a few years (while still in High School ) , moto cross in the LA colisium changed our sport forever ! The big 4 put there marketing guys onto speed and excitement and Trials got left behind...(IMHO) So 30 odd years later I Find a Fantic (whats a fantic ?!) and the trials embers in my soul ignite into a flame and I remember the fun and freinds and all around goodtimes trials provides . But as I started to get back into the sport I see alot has completly changed . What is a Minder and Who came up with that idea ? When did it evolve into a Xtreme sport where gravity is a option ? Hence I ride in twinshock events when I can and marvel when I see clips of the best there are doing their thing. Oh well ,Time marches on and the world changes !!!! (who ever thought 25 years ago that I could sit at home and communicate w/people WORLWIDE ! at the push of a button !!!!!!!?????????????) just my 2pence worth Glenn

I just got home from work and the DVD was waiting for me ! I've got most of the moves down pat so as a training tool it wasn't worth it to me , but I will use some of the moves shown at the ITSA Finals later this month in TN. Boy will they be surprised when I can show them that my riding style has solid roots in the trials world...!!! And tell the team that for my donation I expect a clean loop or two dedicated to meeeee.... Wait there is a knock at my front door .......................................... WWHHOOEE you should see the line of ladys out front !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am for ever in dept to you for the DvD! Now I've got to go put some new michelins on the trusty fantic , and the girls all want to get lubed up and help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LIFE IS GOOD.. Give all the team members a pat on the back or whatever , and tell them to stay focused , fluid and have a blast !!!! Thanks ,... Glenn PS., I told the girls that getting the original tires off the rims may be the hard part , due to the stiffness of the old rubber ... and they said in harmony "stiff is good"

    Iridium!

Just to check it's not to hot I just pulled it to check it out ... no glazing , perfect white/grey color all the way down the center porcelain ! The straight cross reference # for the L82 champion that comes in my old girl stock is a IWF22 pn5379 go to http://www.denso.co.jp/PLUG/ to look up the specifics for your bike ... I also run a 96 main w/a K&N air filter in a low hrs. motor in my 240 !!!! and the amsoil dominator synth. premix oil in avegas @75to1 may have helped too ... But the plug by itself did make a real seatofthepants improvement... Totally happy with the $ spent for the plug , and I ran it gaped as delivered ! She even started 1st kick after a serious wash job today when i put her away ! Glenn

    Iridium!

Having just taken my boy out for his first REAL riding adventure at a park 150 miles away , and having installed a denso iridium plug the night before in my trusty(?) 240 pro . All I can really say (imho) is the plug w/our weak ign. in our old fantics is the best thing you can do !!! 1 kick start all day , Tractors at low rpm like a johndeer , no loading up ! and really great throttle response !!!! And oh yeah , Watching my son on his 89 XR100 learn humility from a 5 year old on a 50cc full race cobra .... Priceless And my boy is 11 ! but the tot WAS /IS realgood !!!! Glenn and now back to trials ........................
