Hi to all that may read this , Being the stuck in the 80's old fart that I am , I just ran into a major info problem !.......
I am just about to order some new michelins for the old fantic and I went to order up some heavy duty new tubes to go with
them I found out they don't list tube sizes the same anymore !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ARGHHHH
what would the proper tube sizes be for a 4.00x18 and a 2.75x21 respectivly ! these 110/90x18 mean nothing but confusion
to me !!!!!!!!!!!
Or can some one point me to a conversion chart ???
Thanks for the help !!!!

Dab ; the main point in my bare framed rebuild was to replace the swingarm shaft and install 4 sets of caged
needle brgs. w/zerk fittings into the swingarm ... Fantastic improvement in rear suspension action , and as
you say , the only!!! weak design I've found on my 240 at it's 24 years or so of use ... And I did beef up the
frame just a bit near the steering head ...
Glenn
And when I find time I will take off the montesa 349 footpegs that I customized to fit the stock mounts , and weld on some late model peg brackets and mount some stouter pegs .
-
Steve ; I've got a complete stator plate for a 95 section being shipped to me as we speak ! I bought it on a
whim... you know stash all the fantic parts I can !
So if you need one in the future contact me .

As to the build quality ... I've been riding/driving motor vehicles for over 30 years , and working on them
for a living just as long . and although I don't have much wrench time on the newest trials bikes , my own
83 fantic is one of the highest quality overall mass produced peice of machinery I have ever worked on !
And new cars w/ designed in failability are just job security to me ... But I hope that as w/most modes of transport if you maintain them correctly , they will take care of you !
Alas I hold my breath to buy a NEW trials bike until the big Fantic is available ... w/the hope that the same
princaples that produced my 240 , are still alive in the fantic factory !!!!
I also have the origanal bill of sale for my 240 , and I might be able to get more for mine than what it sold
for new !!!(lets not get into a rant about inflation now)..
Just my Humble Opinon ...

It may be a Jawa ! ... But it sure looks like a fantic chassis to me !!!!!!!!
Still too cool though ?
-
I think I can picture what you described ... I think I'll stay with my lenghtened arm and mount for
now !!!!
Glenn
-
Lee ; yes my cable mount has been moved the same amount I lengthed the arm, I also have a differant spring on the arm . My clutch works for me fine w/ my standard 2 finger grip that I've used most of my life.
And acording to ITSA modern twinshock class rules : drum brakes , aircooled , twinshocks ! kinda a run
what ya brung class , as long as it meets that criteria , and is SAFE to ride !!!! kinda leaves the door open !!!
And Bil & BD ; is his 200 hydralic ? I was just curious if anyone has seen or used the kit hebo sells ...
Thanks , I think I'll save my money for now ... But do you think I can put a built tl250 engine in my spare
240 chassis ? (and I realize the drive is on the wrong side !)
Glenn
-
I was poking around and came across hebo's website and they now show a hydralic clutch conversion kit
for older bikes ....
I was just wondering if anyone has ever used one on a 240 pro , and if it makes that big of differance when my clutch arm is already lengthened 1/2 an inch or so . ( the bikes , not my left one !)
Glenn
-
And would GasGas release a appearently underpowered aircooled 4t on the sly ! I don't think so ...
But I do apriciate the work that went into putting whatever 4t that is into the GG chassis ! That's a weldone acomplishment in it's own right !!!! I keep day dreaming of a large honda 4t in my spare 240 pro frame ...

My spellcheck died !!!! KIDS!!!!!!

10 points for that Shot ! And as seems to be the common opinion If it ain't broke , Don't Fix It !!!

Check out www. twinshock .org
The current bike of the month is a beutiful bantam . You can contact some of the folks there and at B&J racing in Tn. for help on your project if your stateside ...
Great people and a wealth of knowledge on all the cool old iron ......
Glenn
-
Dan , I just have to ask ... Who's beutiful Ariel is that on the On The Pegs Webpage ?
And this is a great Idea !!!
Glenn
-
I just now read this new news and my vote (although late) goes for the "The Far Side " , but that may have a copyright on it ! or it could be Draggin' the line , but Tommy James and the Shondells Might complain , although the song does fit some of us trials folk ..............
Glenn
-
I bid already and was out bid in about 20 minutes ! I'm Thinking get it and sort the box out and sell what won't fit my 240's ... And speaking of ebay USA , did anyone else see the pristene 300 for sale real CHEAP!
I wish I had the extra cash for that one !
Glenn
P.S. I also have a micro fiche reader to help with the inventory list !!!! and my kids can read !!!!!!! too .
I think it's time they start earning the oset I want to get them ....
-
And to get a little techi. the heat range refers to a plugs ability to disapate heat , not how fast it gets to temp ! Hence to cold a plug will foul easily and to hot a plug can turn a motor into a pinging meltdown waiting to happen !!!!
Glenn
-
It hurts just to look at that !...
Glenn
-
All I can say is WOW THANKS !!!
Glenn
-
Does anyone know where I can get info on the osset electrics for my youngins ?
-
All I can say is welcome and WOW ! Beautifully Done bike !!!

Losing my house in arrowbear to the fire was one of the factors in my moving ! and at the time they were discussing a mass aerial spraying for the bark beetles ... I quess real estate prices will continue to drop up there .

Last time I was in SoCal was when I left for the other coast , Nov. 2003 ... And I taught for a bit at Toyota in Torrence , so I am quite familiar w/ LA traffic !! But at least 80% of the folks out west understand how to drive a car. Not here in the Charleston area where we are blessed with about the highest ins. rates in the country and what would you expect when if you can't read here you can have someone read the drivers license test for you !
And of the places I've lived in our beautiful country , I think Lake Arrowhead was The best ! 4 seasons like New England , Great Schools , no smog , and ZERO HUMIDITY !
Now if I could get a green sticker for my trusty old Fantic I'd love to move back and start a ITSA chapter for SoCal !!!
Glenn
And it was in 1976 or 77 when it snowed in the coachella valley Gents....
weather here now , 38 w/freezing rain forcast for the AM... AND HUMID!!!!!
-
Snow isn't that rare in socal ! just depends where you live ! When I was in high school in Indio in 1976 , it snowed one day on my way to work in Palm Springs after school ! And I beleive it's most likley snowing in Lake arrowhead/bigbear right now !!!
Boy I miss the mountains of SoCal ...
Glenn
-
Check out Trials comp.com/forum I'm sure I've seen folks from ohio !!!
At least in the midwest ! I'm on the far east coast from you ,otherwise I'd come over and help ! And I know how you feel , my closest riding buddies are hundreds of miles away from me !
Good luck , And the comraderie and fun at a trials event is well worth the effort ....
