Having ridden only fourstrokes in Trials (and enduros,desert...). And only competed on a two stroke in junior enduros when I was quite young.(Yamaha mini),the XL wasn't out yet!! I have never had a problem starting a 4stroke.
It's always just been a conscious effort to bring it up on the compression stroke and then go for it !!!!!!
I can't wait till I can afford a scorpa or sherco , But I always have been a Honda kinda guy...
And I'm Still getting used to the power delivery of my trustworthy 240 fantic that I restored to get back into the sport... that has changed so much from the days of my youth... (mid 70's !)
But it is still the most fun you can have on two wheels !!!!!!!!!!
Now ,NEW bike or Lawn mower?>?>? (Large John Deer Type,a few acres of yard!)
Well rewind the fantics stator windings for now
cheers all

TOO COOL !!**!!!
and thank the neighbors...
Glenn
Now for the mail to the States...
THANK YOU ANDY !!!
and all the rest, A.A. etc.

I know (I think ) patrick rides for sherco . But as a old guy just getting back into the sport I was wondering how old this talented young man is ?
Thanks ,
Glenn

If memory serves...
A cdi coil is a cdi coil is a cdi coil...
But some put out alot more voltage than the others, so check your plug
often till you're comfortable with the way it runs.
You may have to change the heat range of the plug.
But another yammer coil from the same vintage should be fine !!
good luck,
Glenn
If the plug is whiteish with a porclien like finish on the center electrode:::: it's way to hot...

Detonation (pinking?) can be caused by a few things...
1. lean fuel condition ,(anything from a very worn carb slide to a small intake vacuum leak or the wrong jetting/needle position for your altitude.)
2. Improper timing , to far advance and it will ping easily, most all the time , to far retarded and it will take longer periods of straight running to ping because of the increase in exhaust gas temperature.
3.High cylinder head temp , poor coolant circulation, wrong coolant mix, improper pressure cap.(the higher the pressure the higher the boiling point) plugged radiator core or fins
4.carbon build up on piston/head (restricted exhaust can make a two stroke ping to, raises combustion temp)
Hope it helps some...
**!!! do not run carb cleaner spray thru a 2 stroke when running, it will shorten its life span!!!!
If you want to decarbon it with out a tear down (the best way )you can get a spray bottle and put water or brake fluid in it, remove air filter boot, warm up bike and hold it about 1/4 throttle and squirt a little in the carb throat, till the motor just stumbles let it clear out and repeat. an assistant makes this much easier to do. VERY SMALL AMOUNTS OF LIQUID !!!
have fun...
Glenn
P.S. if you use brake fluid be prepared for the vast amounts of white smoke,
and let the bike run a while w/ a few "wfo" bursts thrown in to help clear it out...

Check out a little town north/west of vegas called pahrump...
It's where one of the entrences used to be to the largest fighter training range in the free world... saw a firepower demonstration there when I was stationed at nellis... Hard to imagine just whats out there !!...
I'm sure you've heard of the area #.
But back in the early 80's there were only about 10,000 permanant residents in L.V., not a million like today, so they may not play out there as much now.
Have fun and if it's stil there check out the shark club...

:boldblue:
Please ask bill for the test specs for a 83 240 pro and post them for me, I lost the sheet of paper with the ign. coil specs. and mine is dead again !!!
thank you very much...
Glenn
And there great bikes when the ignition works correctly.!.!.!#%^$#**
-
Now come on ,.?/!! you folks never saw the honda cg125 powered fantic
350??? motocross bike ??? And the failed ignition on the spare engine must be the fantic part...
And I have a real good gram/grain scale that gets used ocaisionally for balancing the rotating assembly in the multicylender engines I build when someone can afford the effort...
But I don't think thats what his scale will be used for!!!!
SCARY

I need to locate someone to rewind my ignition source coils on my 83 fantic 240 pro . I have two sets and neither pair is worth a s%%t. I also would like to locate a new coil trigger if possible. And does anyone have the test specs for the ignition because I can't find the ones I had ?!?...
I am in the US, but if I have to ship it all across the pond I guess I will have to.
Thanks...

For the money spent ; I like my novogar's...
natural finish w/ my extra boot oil and I rode an event in them first time I tried them on... no breakin req.
Cheers

Did the zero have the unrepairable magnisium cases and water pump problems? Cause my brother just picked it up and said it has been outside in the weather for quite awhile ! Or as a master auto tech that builds hotrods out of piles of rust should I just grin and make it work and look good again???
And I haven't even seen a picture of the bike yet!
cheers

Once again my faithful 240 pro ignition trigger failed and I have no source for another...
So my question is does the 90 Zero I'm waiting on have a better ignition ? and are parts for the ign. still available ?
Because every trigger I install in my 240 seems to last about 18 hrs. of use then turns into a open circuit and I still have never found a new one !!!
Thanks
Glenn

Does anyone know how much one weighed ?
Thanks

So what your telling me is this will stop , hop , and launch a whole lot easier than my fantic! Because once I started getting my trials legs back underneath me , I learned that the fantic 240 was alot more responsive bike than the new ones I rode in the early 70's... But now that my 83 240 pro is as sweet as it ever was I want more, so I'll jump another decade ahead to this beta and learn to take the most that it'll give me ! And maybe when Fantic comes out with their big 4stroke I'll be able to make use of what it will be capeable of!!!! (little steps and breath deep into the future!)
And on a differant note the gentleman the beta is coming from says it has a hydralic clutch! Was this a simple modifacation or am I going to have to deal with a *^#$!! home made system ? Thanks to all for the info...
Glenn
P.S. r2w , my kids think the bannana splits are waayycoooll!!!!
thanks again...

Ok, my brother in oregon has agreed to pick up the bike for me! Now I just have to send him the $ to strip and ship it here...
But I still can't find much info on them , except that the model did win a world championship or two?
Are they hydraulic clutched? What displacement was the 90 zero, and I presume it has disc brakes.?
What do they look like?
THANKS
Glenn
-
Just have to pick it up and ship it across the U.S.

Hello and merry christmas to all out there,
I've got a chance to obtain a 90 beta zero and I know nothing about the bike!
I would like some specs on it,(displacement etc.) and a photo if anyone has one they could post! I'm trying to move into a more modern bike in small steps,
but I'll never get rid of my trusty 240 fantic...
anyhelp apriciated
Thanks,
Glenn

On my 240's wire diagram , the kill switch goes to the C terminal on the coil.
Should be the rosso (red) lead that comes from the stator plate, hook it to that terminal thru the switch , then to ground. All the kill switch does is short ign. voltage to ground.
cheers

Does anyone know where I can get some swingarm bearings and the related peices??? or does anyone make a bushing to replace the needle brg.?
1983 240 pro
thanks for any info.

B)I like the tread marks on the stump at headlamp level, shows you have been practicing...
And yes informative too, as I'm shopping for modern bike to go with my 83 240 fantic, cause at 45 the trials bug bite mark on my posterior got scratched
again and now it itches... I hadn't felt it for about 30 years...
Glenn
PS. my stock foot pegs stink too!!!!
-
It's beutiful, but how would it stand up against the '06 600 yammer that turns 17 or 18 thousand rpm? Now I miss my vfr750r, that was a great all around scoot... and can it wheelie like a RD350? memories.
Glenn
-
So do you folks think I can get my spare 240 pro engine into one of those frames? or is the 50 a 3/4 scale bike?
And if it is fullsized think of the technique needed to pilot it succesfully...
Glenn
'and I still want one !' if not for me, than for my kids, fantics in the blood and all that!!!
-
I think it looks great! and hopefully 50cc is just the start of a fantic comeback...
cheers

And why can't I get the site to transfer to english? Only can get the italian version to activate...
