Steve , sounds like my 08' southeastern championship ... Came down to the last event in snow and ice The trusty fantic had a advantage over the mod boys in those conditions ....(they couldn't use their brakes !)
-
Rode the 240 in a fun event today , only twinshock out (except my sons reflex ) , She worked excellent for me as always , surprised a few new modern riders ... Hand cramp and arm pump s@ck !!! Just kept score on the last loop ....

Out in the shop yesterday and had to show the reflex some love too ...
Installed a thick aluminum skid plate with a dense rubber pad off some old Fantic ...
I will add some wings to it and change it's shape a little when I get a chance , but for now is a much stouter unit than the factory one ...
And it got the old Renthal bars off the section too ! Got to go load up for a event in NC. tomorrow !
My work never ends ...

Well S3 fat bars , adjustable clamps , and trifix grips with the #5 s3 bar ends installed ...
Love the bars , clamps and grips , I'll have to see how the S3 5 bar ends last ... No where as secure and as smooth as the Hebo brg.end on my 240 , but serves the same purpose , Grips feel kinda fat and comfy , so should help with forearm pump ...(I hope !)
Glenn
And I found out Fantic was ahead of their time again ! the OE bar clamps were adjustable for position too !

Well I just turned the heater on out in the shop ... Time to put the fat bars and clamps , grips etc. etc. on the section and decide if I'm taking it to it's first event on Sunday ... May be a fun way to end out this season ... , But I'll make sure the trusty 240 is ready for battle too ... And finish the trick aluminum skid plate mounting on my son's reflex !

The Saga continues ! We will make these old Honda's work and look cool !!!!!
-
Reminds me of my youth ... When I was a kid , my big brother spent about 60% of his riding time on the back wheel , He could ride wheelies indefinitely !, around in circles big or small , figure 8's , whatever wherever whenever at will .... I could always wheelie pretty good but nothing like him , to me the wheelie was always a tool , he just seemed to get a kick out of people's reaction ! And he was always laughing when he was doing it ...!
He lives out in Oregon now , has a gas gas and a couple of TL125's to go along with his big dual sport bikes . I've got to get him here or go out there for a visit , we haven't gone riding together for at least 30 yrs . We always pushed each other and had fun ...

And mine has the works shocks and I'm pretty sure my frame isn't quite a production one ... Wish we hadn't missed each other at the WR , You shoulda ridden my 240 !

I'd say yours is working as designed , But I'll double check in my Factory Honda shop manual when I get a chance , I gave my clymer manual to a friend , as I found it very vague on several key points , better than nothing to go by , but not much ...

keep your little sister off it till she gets longer legs , and go get some mud on it !
Cool bike too !
-
OK ... so just so I knew , bathroom scale came out , and my son is a wrestler so I've got a trick one ...
Set aluminum loading ramp on scale and rolled the 240 up on it and let it settle .... 178lbs full of fuel .!!!!
-
OK , so just to know , I put my alu. loading ramp across my bathroom scale and gently rolled the bike on . 178lbs For my 83 fantic ...
I just had to know !
And I have to add on edit , I've got a serious trick scale , my son is a wrestler and ounces can count !!!!
-
I'll try the bathroom scale method then I guess ... A hernia may await !
-
I put my 240 on the trailer and went to the local truck scale ... Weighed bike on and bike off ... Scale is certified to be accurate .
And my trusty 240 pro came out at 168 lbs full of fuel .!!!!
-
aka ... if there is no freeplay and the MC. piston can not come back fully to rest , it will not refill the MC. bore with fluid . Get them bled and then worry about your adjustments .
-
Isn't it amazing how much longer blocks of ice last as apposed to just ice alone ?!
I knew great minds thought alike ...
And I have a small inverter ,1500 watt , for a small fan when needed . And I always try to bring my matco jump box with me just in case too ...
-
I compared it to another new clean and shiny cover I forgot I had .... (old age is hell !! ) , The dia. of the clutch portion is just a tick bigger , and the casting protrudes a little where the sight glass is , so it may hold a few extra drops of oil ...Then I got a note from a trusted Fantic fellow , and he said it will bolt on , all the way up to the early Kroo ! And I just remembered I've got a couple compete gasket sets out in the shop somewhere , so I'll triple check before I lay the 240 on it's side and open her up .

They say 88kg Stock ... With the lights and paraphernalia , There were no xtra brackets of any sort on mine (ever) and the silencer , rims , top clamp , shocks etc. , etc. , etc. along with a few other bits and and bobs I've made or bought , it wasn't that hard ...
GG 200 ? might try one if I get the chance ... After the section and Reflex get close to completion ...
Rock on !
Glenn
-
Does anybody know if the latter aircooled clutch sidecover will bolt on to my trusty 240 ?
The oil level window would be convenient ...!
Glenn
PS , I think from a FM 403 ? Air cooled mono , disc/drum bike ..
-
The only way you can enforce a weight limit is at the end of a race , as most car races do (some before and after ) . A observed approach checkpoint after the last section (with a pressure washer to get the muck off if necessary ) , and fuel load doesn't count ...
But this also means my '83 240 pro that I've painstakingly got down to about 75kg is going to be competitive again !!!
This most likely won't affect the top guys in the least , as they are superhuman anyway , But it may inspire advances in power and suspension development that hopefully will trickle downstream to us mortals . Instead of engineers striving to make the lightest possible bike out of unobtanium !!!
But I'm still fixing up old bikes with proven trusted technology and getting my kids out in the sunshine (or rain ) .

I got a Nissan NV 1500 earlier this year and love it . It (after about 30k on the clock )has averaged 21 mpg total ...(yeah I keep track of every gallon and mile )
I've got the 4.0v6 and it has enough oommph for any thing I would want to tow . I installed a 2/3 bench from a totaled E350 with the quick disconnect brackets and all . But even with the seat in place I can put 3 bikes and gear easily inside , but I usually haul my bikes on my little Triton trailer , to keep the inside of the van cleaner . With seat in place it sleeps 3 fine , 4 if needed . I've added side panels with insulation and insulated the roof too , stays cool or warm as needed . They are assembled in Mississippi , and drive like a full size P.U. with a camper shell . The frame and underpinning's are quite stout . Nissan has hit it right on the mark , as the fullsize fords and GM's are no longer made , I believe ...
Glenn
I had a shot of it at the W.R. with trailer and my bikes all around , But I think the gremlins got that one ...
Must be a strange angle with the camera , it looks stubby in that shot !!!
And PS. THE BEST OE. rear view mirrors I've ever used ....!
