  1. As it states for a 5 ... Stopped or rolling backwards without support ... Therefore stopped and dab = 5
  2. Trials Scoring...(taken directly from a 1982 program for the wagner cup @ the Donner ski ranch) " the object of observed trials is to ride a specified piece of ground with entry and exit gates and side boundaries ( known as a section)without stopping (unless balanced with both feet on the pegs with no outside support) and without touching feet to the ground (or using any other part of the body as support). Points are given to a rider for using his feet (or other body parts) and for losing forward motion (unless balanced without support). the rider with the lowest score is the winner . Points are allocated as follows : A clean. No points. The Competitor completes the section with no footing . 1, one point. The rider puts a foot to the ground (dabs) only once while in the section. A rider is also charged for a dab if he uses any other part of his body to maintain or regain stability or forward motion . 2,two points. The rider dabs twice while in the section . 3 , Three points. The rider dabs three or more times. Three points is the maximum score given to a rider who gets through a section successfully , even if he sits down and paddles with his feet all the way . 5 , Five points . The maximum penalty for failure to complete the section . This include stopping in the section (whether the engine is stalled or not ) or losing forward motion (unless the rider is balancing or rolling backwards with no support) . Five points are also given for running out of bounds . A A rider may request a score of 5 if he chooses not to attempt the section . (If a rider misses a section he receives 10 points in national competition or 100 points under international rules.) " Now I have to ask , WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THOSE RULES ??? (except no mention of a time limit in section !) They were simple to understand , simple to observe , and FUN to ride !!! And those are the rules Mr Michaud competed under ! He rode that event on a SWM .... Just my 2 cents for the debate ...! Glenn
  3. "the more effort and care you put in,the better the result is" Isn't that the way our line of work generally goes ? Glenn
  4. Cool Doug ; Doesn't the 320 have the clutch lightener lever assembly somewhere under the tank already ? If it does you may be able to adjust on that before any spring removal ? Fantic Looks great too ! Glenn
  5. Some ID numbers from the chassis and /or engine might be quite beneficial for some help ... A photo might go a long way too ... Glenn
  6. Jon; I've never balanced a single cylinder engine before , but have balanced many a multi cylinder race car engine to the grain ... Wouldn't a 50/50 balance be the best starting point ? Or does it work out better with the crank weights just a bit heavier ? Glenn
  7. Got young son and my section out ... (son on reflex!) Played on small steep hill in front yard ... Son can now start and stop going uphill or down without stalling or dabbing ... Baby steps....confidence take's time And boy I've got to work on the section , I want to use it in a event ! it's so easy to ride ! Glenn
  8. Single DAD , 3 kids , so yeah I've done my share of laundry !!!!! Wash gear by itself , Warm water (as much as your machine will let you, aka large load setting) Gentle cycle , let it presoak for a while if nasty ... Hand up or tumble dry on cool ... Works fine for me ....? Glenn
  9. Well I just sat down out in the shop to pull the carb off again and drill the pilot jet out with a # 78 bit ... Slipped while opening small case of 21 jewelers drill bits and dropped them after about 1/2 a hour with a magnet sweeping the floor , and another hour with my micrometer :measuring them repeatedly to put them back in their respective slots in the case , Damn they are small !!! I think I'll drill the pilot next weekend , Right now I'm gonna have a and watch the nascar race .... Glenn
  10. Rode the Trusty 240 this last weekend ... Did some steps and drops I didn't think I could do , to the amazement of a few modern riders ... I love the feel of my 240 , the suspension is finally tweeked to about perfection in my feeble old mind ,and the power curve of my 240 is just fun to ride Now to find some time to play/work on the section and teach young son throttle/clutch control on his reflex . Ain't life just grand ? Glenn
  11. No Matter , fix it and ride it ! You'll love it , still a great bike slightly different frame than the pro model , but still works great with some love ! Glenn
  12. Just got a factory shop manual for the reflex in the mail .... That's almost better !!!!
  13. ! got to do the same thing ... But with about 12 of my buddies And they all cheered and coached my son Tyler on his "new" bike . All in All , a great day . Glenn
  14. Well Young son had a great time on his first event with the reflex ... But I definitely need to slow it down for him And now I have a excuse to practice more , Got to get him some competent clutch and throttle control But he did great and thinks the bike is 'DA BomB ' ! Glenn
  15. Sounds like you may have a 200 pro ! if it's a Forward kick 200 cc bike , Kinda rare and a Fantastic bike ! Glenn
  16. The 10 is about shot , and I'd like to use the lock plate as it was meant to be used , so I think a 12 is as small as I can go on the front , unless a 11 bolts on ? And I'm glad about all the fresh carb info ... I shimmed the needle abit just before I put the bike on the trailer and mid range and up is a major improvement , Now I need to get some bits for the pilot and the better taper needle ... Thanks all off to bed got to get up early ! Glenn
  17. The Saga Continue's ... Exhaust on ,Slight rub with me on and preload @ softest setting, no worries...(Free silencer and 15 min's of my neighbors welding expertise ), carb rebuilt and tweeked , old bars and grips on , ungratefull kid polishing wheels....Bike works OK...., motor makes a few noises I'm not fond of, Carb works fine for him, I'd want a pumper . Has 10 - 44 sprockets right now , will change that to 12 - 58 asap , just to slow it down a little and teach young son THROTTLE CONTROL !!! Still loving old honda's Got to do laundry and groceries right now , then load up for a event in NC. Leave at about 5:30 am . And the trusty 240pro fired 2nd kick after sitting since the world round weelend (I love old Fantics more !!!) Glenn And a shot of Zelda the Trials puppy ... She's almost 2 !!!!
  18. Does the 11 tooth counter shaft sprocket still accept the lock plate ? or is 12 as small as you can go and still retain the sprocket as designed ? Glenn
  19. Your Fantic suffered the same fate as the reflex I just resurrected ! the gas tank was rust filled inside to the indent of the gas cap , along with the bottom seams only a visual effect ! But it's starting and running good now , My son get's to try it this weekend .
  20. Went out to the shop after work to check tire/exhaust clearance on the modified, but not yet welded reflex exhaust ... And patted my 240 on the seat confident in knowing I can put fuel in her and compete this weekend while my son get's to try out the reflex ... And my section glared at me and the box of parts !!! Damn italian girls ...! Glenn
  21. Now you made me miss a XR500 I had years ago ... Bulletproof and with some tlc, as fast as one across the desert too ...
  22. Mud and traction is wherever you find them ... And I don't stop to look for either !!! Glenn And dadof2 , you should see some of the golf courses around Palm Springs , California.... Smack dab in the middle of the desert !!!!!!
  23. Get the other frame or at least check it out , great project / history either way !...
  24. I can't vote on any of the above ... But get some time on the bike , get to a event close to you and either spectate or get on the novice line , either way you will have fun and make some friends ! WE ALL STARTED SOMEWHERE !!! And both places sound cool if you want to spend the money for a playday .... Glenn
