  1. It does pull from idle to wfo without a hitch in about any gear without any clutch action needed , thats for sure . One of these days I may have to contact whats left of fantic in Italy and see if the kept any records from that far back ... Glenn And boy I missed alot during my 30 odd year vacation from trials ....

    Wish I'd been there ....
  3. Steve : Did you ride a fantic back then ? 'cause I'm still trying to find out the origins of my 240 ... It is decidedly different from the other ones I've got .... IE. no switch brackets or fork lock was ever welded to the frame , and it has extra tubes added to support the steering neck , behind the sheetmetal braces ... And is ported quite differently too from my other 240 barrels , and the fork angle is a bit steeper than stock ..............And I must add that with the flatslide carb on her , she is a thrill to use ... And I've got a bill of sale and all the other papers from Cherokee cycle center selling a used competition motorcycle for $2250.00 cash to a Steif J. Counts in lancaster , CA. And I want to know if it was Lampkins or Michuads bike that was left behind ? "cause it sure ain't quite stock and the frame changes were there from the first build as far as I can tell , And you should've seen the look on Ryan Youngs face when he got off her a couple years ago :) AKA he took off for a 5 min ride and came back about 25 min's later with a big 'ol grin on his face ! (larger grin than normal !!!) It really doesn't matter , but it would be nice to be able to document where she came from , you know italians and pedigree and allllll. See you in Tennessee I hope , Glenn
  4. I'm Trying to get it shipped here !!!!

    Hmmmm

Dan ; I know it's not a new beta 300 SS ... But after warming up the old fantic and draining the silkolene light gear oil out of her (the best i found for my old bike to date ...) I put some Redline 80w motorcycle gear oil in her box and rode it in the yard for about 30 mins .... Conclusion ? Better / lighter effort to shift gears , easier to get neutral , and instead of the clutch slipping lightly in 5th and noticeably in 6th , (standard 240 issue !) it seemed to hold and be alot more finite in its engagement ??!!... A friend of mine has a ss and all of it's fluids were changed to redline after a couple hours on the bike , I should've rode it last weekend at our year end event , but I was ill and didn't even bring my bike ! I just hung out and ate pizza and got my trophy for the year . But everyone that rode the bike said it had the smoothest clutch they ever used Save your time and labor unless yours is grabby and try the redline in your bike , I'm definitely impressed . Glenn PSSSS.... As soon as I pay off the new toolbox I got last spring ... I may be getting a 300SS too , I think if I get a modern bike , that is the one for me ...
  6. I think Forest Gump said it best .... "stupid is what stupid does"

Dan , don't you need to get it dirty before you condemn the clutch action ? And I've heard that Redline synth. gear oil makes beta clutches happy ... In fact I've got to warm up the old fantic and drain the silkolene out and see how the redline works ... May post results later today if I get time to do it ... Glenn
  8. If the mont is near you go look at it , see the dates on receipts for the hard engine parts , ride it ... and then start your cash offer , but don't let on your impressed with the bike ..... stay casual .... you WILL end up working on it , if you get it ! Have fun Glenn
  9. The enfield CAN be a unbelievable bike , I got a chance to ride this one a few years ago and still can savor the moment Some interesting reading here at my friend Tony's site ... http://blackcatvintagetrials.com/2008/01/15/testing-the-oilfield.aspx Have fun with it , no matter what way you go ! Glenn
  10. Ben ; I run a aluminum domino throttle tube with a Hebo bearing bar end plug , Makes for a much smoother/ more consistent throttle feel for me . Along with a well routed and lubed cable . (wd40 works fine )... Glenn
  11. Chuck , (lucky guy ...) Contact Jim at http://www.competiti...sandcycles.com/ he is a beta dealer and our clubs pres. (and also the engineering applications manager for Hendrick motorsports... aka really smart guy !!!) He is totally behind the Redline brand of bike oils , I'd see what one of their oils he would recommend for your new toy . Glenn .
  12. Also do you have the correct amount of oil in them ?
  13. In all my bikes that sit unused for what sometimes seems like eternity , I run ethanol free 110 aviation fuel (cause there is a small airport new my house and it stores almost forever)@ about 70 to 1 in my old bikes with amsoil synthetic premix oil . And in my vehicles I use 93 octane ethanol free fuel , and I average 3 to 4 mpg better than anything with ethanol in it ... and the rich keep gettting richer
  14. Cool , I'll be in my large white breadbox (nissan nv 1500 van) towing a Triton aluminum trailer with a old red bike on it ...

    Probolt

Yeah , what copey said ....!
  16. Well all bickering about rules that don't really affect me anyways aside ... My vacation days are set from the 22nd to the 29th I'll be at TTC donig whatever I can to help the crew out ... And Grannie is gonna stay with my kids @ home :) Glenn
  17. Seen that more than once .... Everything from go-karts to mx to little leage ... Saw a real good one at a jr. high wrestling match once , cops present ended that one with a few arrests Glenn
  18. Dabster's got a new riding buddy !!! Take care and reintroduce him right Nigel .... AND HAVE FUN !!!!! Glenn
  19. You may need a impact screwdriver for the cover screws , ( old and possibly buggerd up ...) Get some allenhead replacements ,(easily sourced and cheap at twice the price !) And make sure you have a manual first !!!! One of the easiest motors to work on , don't be afraid of it , just think things through ... And are you aware that the right footpeg folds up out of the way of the kicker ? and should stay up till you push it back down . makes starting them much easier ! have fun with it Glenn
  20. I'd have to agree with Doug , I've shocked more than one modern rider by letting them ride my OKO'd 240 (that is also geared 10/44 for no-stop riding), They'll haul in the clutch in 2nd , rev the engine , drop the clutch in prep to attack something ... And just about LOOP my old bike ... mine will pull off idle , without a fuss in any sectionable gear , without slipping the clutch ... Glenn
  21. The Camera angle is great , alot more stable And it looked to me like they were riding no-stop and I wasn't bored !!!!(like I'm always told ...) Glenn
  22. Christopher ; I don't know you but .... That is depressing ...................
  23. Chris at Classic trials was playing with the idea on a 240 ... I don't know the final results .
