  1. I'd have to agree with Doug , I've shocked more than one modern rider by letting them ride my OKO'd 240 (that is also geared 10/44 for no-stop riding), They'll haul in the clutch in 2nd , rev the engine , drop the clutch in prep to attack something ... And just about LOOP my old bike ... mine will pull off idle , without a fuss in any sectionable gear , without slipping the clutch ... Glenn
  2. The Camera angle is great , alot more stable And it looked to me like they were riding no-stop and I wasn't bored !!!!(like I'm always told ...) Glenn
  3. Christopher ; I don't know you but .... That is depressing ...................
  4. Chris at Classic trials was playing with the idea on a 240 ... I don't know the final results .
  5. A whole lot of talent in one place .... or not ?
  6. I wonder too ... When I first got back into trials I communicated alot with Al , But I never got a chance to meet him face to face , And I owe him a romp on the old Fantic too !
  7. It says ty400 in marker on the side panel , must be a rare works bike !,,,, Interesting fuel tank though .
  8. I've been looking for one with no luck ... Do they still make them ? Glenn
  9. Why not ? .... I was at the local Honda/yamaha/Kawasaki/can-am/suzuki dealer / megastore yesterday picking up some FMF packing for my silencers , getting ready for this winters maintenance sessions. And I couldn't help but notice the X-mas Displays of bikes were all set out already... In each display was a kids bike of one type or another , next to the teenagers bike of the same brand on up to the big dirt and street bikes and 4 wheelers , All pushing brand loyalty ... (except for the Can Ams , they just have the big 3 wheeled thing here now) . They all make mini quads , and dirt bikes and midsize dirt bikes that have to be loss leaders , but the kids get to have a bike that looks like dads ... A CRF 150 would make a great CHEAP trials bike with some tweeks at the factory level . But you're most likely correct , The big 4 tried to get trials to the masses in the 70's using the same basic concept I'm presenting , they were all basically modified enduro bike motors in trials type frames , And alot of them just sat on showroom floors looking cool even way back when they were new . It may still be the same old train of thought ... Going fast is easy and Flashy , Slow and controlled takes practice and commitment . Glenn
  10. Honda should step up and build a TL 80 / 125 . Quiet and simple ... How many of us rode a xr75 or the like as kids ?? It would be so simple for them to take a XR100 , steepen the fork angle, Change the spring rates and Dampening front & rear , move the pegs back and down , And put a skinny tank and tiny seat on it . Disc or drum don't matter ... And have a long ride seat and tank option ... and gear ratio's like the TL 125's had , 1st 2nd 3rd then overdrive 1 and overdrive 2
  11. Isn't it amazing how old pieces of paper can become almost priceless , in today's computer age ... Glenn
  12. Do a TY80 ... They are bullet proof , he can learn and crash on it , And you should be able to get your money back out of it when he's ready to move on , just keep it in good repair , they are slowly appreciating in value .
  13. Are you talking about me or Mr Belair ? Pretty Ballsy either way , as you know neither one of us !!! Nor of what we do ...
  14. ROCK -ON !!! " its nice being with a club that just wants to ride. after all, a better bike likely wont keep you feet on the pegs, just help you crash harder, and look better doing so "And I look really good when I Face plant on the trusty fantic ... " Riding old bikes for fun is what its all about. " For some of us anyways
  15. Got it today ... One of my boys can use it whilst on the pedals ... ( a little snug for my fat head anyways !)
  16. So I quess that means we start planning now to get to TN. before its too late to help/work anyway we can volunter ?... I think Dan , Catherine , Charlie and Ashley would appreciate any help they could get ... I've got to start saving for my vacation now !!! Glenn
  17. Boy , you miss alot of points/questions don't you ...
  18. What ever happened to the controlled rollback To tighten a turn ? When I left the sport back in the mid '70's it was the move we practiced to no end to get smooth ... Then Bernie and Eddie changed the way trials was ridden to those that had the skill ... But it was still no-stop . What did I miss along the way that said you have to be able to sit still and launch up a 7foot wall to be a trials rider ? was it the introduction of minders to catch you if you screwed up ? I remember it always being you and yourself against the loop , just like the SSDT. It was always a thinking mans sport , not somebody yelling at you as to where to set your tires ...reminds me of little league . Just another two cents worth ... But I just came in from riding the old Fantic in the yard ... And I always remember why I do this ... Its for me !!!
  19. I believe Mr Collins speaks the truth , the whole truth , and nothing but the truth ... And it applies world wide ... Get out and help !!!! Glenn
  20. I got to try one of those when I was a kid ... Oh to have one now !!! And what is Mr, Nickelson up to these days ? Glenn PS... and they say no-stop is boring !!!!!!
  21. Aww ' come on Doug ... I actually have a blast in my backyard on my trusty Fantic bicycle . It's great exercise ! (although at my age and condition , 20 mins. to a half hour and I'm done !). And no I can't do anything like Pat does ....! I don't know which one is older , his Monty or my Fantic . They look very close ,antiques by now ! Glenn
  22. Now in world rounds I could live with that ... Combined score for both days , and save the best tricks for last ... That would be a show and evolve both styles at the same time. And the best would get better ...and the kids would still set down the x-box to watch and learn , 'cause the basics are still the basics , As Bernie said in his book you can learn control in a flat concrete lot . or something like that ! Glenn
  23. 2009 BMW G450x ... Countershaft and swingarm pivot have the same center , but not the same shaft . Best tracking dirtbike I've ever riden ...
  24. I started riding trials when Mick Andrews was KING and Bernie , Eddie and Marland were the up and coming princes ... Due to life progressing and situations beyond my control , I stopped competing at trials around 1975 ... In the spring of '05 I saw glimpse of a trials show on espn and went OMG!!! They still ride trials ! :) So I got off my middle-aged but and found a Fantic for sale CHEAP ! A few months later I entered my first event in 30 odd years and was amazed at what the upper class riders were doing , but wondering why they were not 5ing every section ... Then someone explained the rules ... These days I compete every chance I get , And although I ride in a ITSA sanctioned club , alot of our events are laid out by Modern experts . And some of them never rode true no-stop trials ... So sometimes my riding is a compromise between the two styles , due to how tight the sections can be . It is a art form to lay out proper no-stop sections , and maybe almost a lost art . I remember learning when I was young to always walk the section planning where you wanted your back wheel to be ... and choosing your line accordingly (ie. wheel on the ground driving bike forward ). And sometimes choosing the spot to take a well planted , controlled dab . I still haven't mastered hopping my bike to the point I would depend on it in a section , It to me is two similar skillsets to accomplish the same basic outcome in different ways ... But I just want to compete and have fun with my friends and laugh at each other when its all over . And IMHO no-stop is the best cross- training tool for motorcyclists of all types . Well my rant is over and I'm gonna go play on my bike for a while ... (and confuse the new neighbors ) Glenn
  25. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=FozZELPyJME Why can't I do that ???!!!
