When my youngest so rode his TY80 for the first time he did the same thing and crashed into the house ... WFO in first gear . He was OK but the house still has a dent ... I took the slide out and added a piece of vacuum line over the throttle cable , inside the spring . It limited the bike to just a little over 1/4 throttle , which was perfect for him to learn the controls and it to become natural . My porting mistake on the barrel didn't help either , would've made a great MX bike ! Already have another top end waiting to go on that was ported by Bob at B&J racing . (The TY GURU !) As it is right now , without the throttle stop it will wheelie my fat a$$ in any gear without alot of effort ... But now almost 2 years after his one good crash , he can ride it without the stop , and has learned to respect it , a trials motor it ain't ! And the bike already had adjustable pivot/pull/length levers on it when he crashed , 'cause the originals were worn away and it got fresh bars and levers in the restoration .
Have your son practice working the front brake while sitting and idleing in neutral , He'll get the hang of not twisting the thottle with a little practice

You may have to invest in a Motion pro brake bleeder or a mightyvac bleeder set , I find my mightyvac indispensable at times ... And some times it just takes two people to get it done . You may also be able to hang the bike by the rear wheel and let nature help ...
They can be frustrating but patience and some common sense will prevail !
Have fun , And where are you located ?

Dot 3 or 4 won't matter they are compatable in a pinch , Only major difference is the boiling point of the fluid , But flush and bleed system and use one or the other . Age of bike would lead me to believe it came with dot 3 standard ... If you have to rebuild everything you can run dot 5 (silicone fluid) BUT do not mix dot 5 with 3 or 4 in anyway ! But a synthetic dot 3 will probably work just fine for you .
Just a W.A.G. But I think it is correct ...
Glenn
And PS., it should say on one of the mastercylinder lids what type of fluid is used ....

The large nut in question is a locknut for the shaft , the shaft screws into the frame on the clutch side . Worst case , remove engine to get a grip on the shaft . Classictrials spindle kit comes with a drilled shaft for greasing and has a allen wrench fitting in end of shaft for installation and removal , and also for adjusting the preload on the whole pivot . Do Not damage any of the pieces on the shaft ! (nut, collar , snapring etc.) as these are just about irreplaceable !!!
Take your time , Good luck !

Support bike , remove front wheel and fender , Remove bolt on top of yoke in each fork tube , remove small drain bolt at bottom of slider ,drain oil , loosen pinch bolt in bottom yoke , slide fork legs down and out of yoke , remove dust seals from sliders , On early models unscrew seal retainer , on later models remove snap ring and washer , Clamp slider in vice with soft jaws . Now comes the fun part ! (ty80's only!)
compress fork leg completly and pull out sharply with a slidehammer type action , it may take a few tries but the fork tube will come out of the slider with the seal and bushes . Replace seal and reassemble , refill each leg with 85cc of fork oil , and have fun !!
Good luck !

Makes me want to load my bike and go visit my brother in Baker city OR. I miss the wide open spaces of the north west !
What type of camera did you use for that ? Nice steady view !

I've got a spare 240 expansion chamber , But I'd try to find one local to you , as shipping would be costly to get it to you . And stock spokes shouldn't take much effort to find on your side of the pond . Or you could contact Chris at Classic Trials http://www.classictrial.co.uk/index.html and I'd be willing to bet he can repair/and or replace your pipe and come up with some spokes for you . And he's alot closer to you than I am !
Keep your 240 alive !!!!

There you go Zippy !!! Just contact them and see if our trailer balls will fit as the aussie's use metric sizes on their stuff , but I'm sure you can customize it to work !

Haynes still makes a shop manual for the Ty80 , they come up on Ebay all the time , If memory serves its ty 50 ,80 ,125 and 175 all in one book , But all the information you need is in it . Well almost all of it ...
Glenn
And search for a original owners manual , The one that came with the TY80 is just about a complete shop manual for the bike , Any year model will do ,as the ty80 's changed very little over their whole production run . (why mess with a good thing !)

It's good to know that the Fantic addiction isn't just affecting me !
My bicycle , 1980 fm330 and my trusty 83 240 pro ...
Still waiting and saving for a NEW Fantic trials bike if it ever appears ...

Look Again ... The bikes are tied down , Look between them at the upper rear shock mount . Still kinda scares me though ...

Great little Bikes ...
Clean carb , fuel tank , airfilter , Determine if it still has the yamalube oil injection hooked up ,(oiltank under seat/sidecover) if it's still there clean out the old stuff too . If no oil injection remains on it , mix up some 50:1 premix and give it a go ! Remember to fold up the right footpeg when trying to start it . Well worth the time and effort to get it going again

Here's a clip of the one I built for my youngest ...

Being a long time toyota tech (30+yrs) All I can add is Good luck finding a hitch for a early MR2 , you'll most likely have to fab that yourself . I've seen them with hitches on them though ... As long as you keep the trailer light and tongue weight correct you will have no issues pulling a single bike trailer , just remember all your gear etc. should go on the trailer too , you don't want to overtax the 25 year old springs etc ... Power will not be a issue ,as the mr's had enough for fun , and the stock weight distribution was close to 50/50 . A trustworthy hitch would be my major concern.
And hey I travel without any issues with my 09 SX4 crossover and triton trailer and still average about 28 mpg loaded for Fun !!!
Good luck

I've learned that he is tooling up for another batch
Happy Days !!!

With todays economic climate , the prices may change day to day ...

What ! and all the little details like the original logo isn't a cloverleaf , it just looks like one ...
-
It could be quite interesting if you stuffed a ty175 motor in place of the lump that is there now . The hard part (the exhaust ...) looks to already be done ...
Just a thought !
