Didn't I read in the NATC rules that as long as your wheels don't touch ground outside the tape You can do floaters or whatever over the line or something to that point ...

Your right I must admit , anything with 2 wheels can get away from ME!!!

I received in the mail today 2 new sprockets , for the 50 ! both are upgraded from the 415 chain (moped?) . to a 428 chain . Should last forever (well along time at least ) on the little fantic 50 . I just wanted to say thanks outloud in public to the folks at France trials Classic for their help to someone on the other side of the world ! THANKS ALOT !!!

Copey ; Do you mean like burnishing the pads to ensure 100% surface contact ? aka a serious test drive ...

If you can pull the lever all the way in , like you stated , and there are no external leaks , the master cylender is bypassing internally . Get some new rubber bits for the master cylender and some new brake fluid and you'll be fine . And if Brake fluid has been laying about in a opened container for more than a week or two , throw it out and get some from a sealed container . Brake fluid is very hydroscopic (absorbs moisture ) and old brake fluid will corrode the bores in the hydraulics . Fresh fluid is cheap insurance ...

!!!! Contact Chris at Classic trial in the UK . http://www.classictrial.co.uk/index.html He can sort out whatever you need . And speaking from experience with a OKO on my Fantic , Most likely the best improvement to my bike . And there have been alot of improvements ...

And keep in mind , He WILL NOT just sell you a carb in a box and say have fun ... He will only sell a carb for a specific bike after he has spent the time to make sure it will be a properly jetted pure bolt on setup . Intake/airbox adapters and all where needed . the extra effort shows when you bolt on the carb and it works great from the first startup ! Just for the lack of frustration and possable engine damage , his Carb tweaking knowledge is priceless !

It came from the same family that had the fantic boots on ebay a few weeks ago , They told me their son had the bike on craigslist in albany ore. , I told my brother in Baker city about it , but he's been to busy trying to sell his Harley to go check it out for me ...
And now it's too late ...

I'm just fond of the build quality of the old fantics , Never mind the weak ign. poor swingarm pivot design ( un maintainable stock ), But it is the bike that got me back into trials after not riding a trials bike for about 30 years ... And I do believe that back in the day when they were new you would've been hard pressed to get a better out of the crate bike for the average rider ... Although I still lust after a SWM jumbo , just something about that tractor motor ...

Hey Craig not to change the subject , BUT , when are you gonna get your montesa out to a twinshock event ?
-
-
only 1 little step I can think of , maybe , Loosen the axle and all the pinch bolts up and bounch the suspension abit , so everything can settle . then tighten it all back up ...

You need to compare notes with Bob Ginder , Owner of B&J Racing in Tennessee . He has a real Sweet James that he uses when the mood hits ... I don't know any details on his , But they are legendary bikes . Kinda changed the course of competition ?

Lee ; A K&N part # E-3211 filter , with some 1/4 inch closed cell weatherstriping on the sealing edges fits the 240 airbox perfect , without crushing the filter or leaking around the edges . And if you go to K&N's website and poke around you can find filter dimensions and styles to fit just about everything ... I even use them for the filters in air compressors , They greatly extend service intervals and extend the life of the valves in compressors too ! And beleive it or not the compressor will pump up quicker and run cooler too with a free flowing intake system ! ( industial type compessors like at work ...) In fact I've still got to fit one to the 50 . The trottle response improvement in any bike is worth the effort ...

I may try a 420 chain , as a 428 leaves a whole lot of space , and both tires are already siped ... I may customize them a bit more ....... I'm still waiting to hear about a stock countershaft , as a shop in france list a 428 counter but not a rear . so if I can set it up stock for now , I can get sprockets made in the futurre. I mean really, the OE. stuff lasted this long with little or no maintenance ... And i've got to wire in the late model coil this weekend and fire the little beastie back up ! Then pull the exhaust off and clean it all out and repack it . Or find a modern silencer/sparkarrester that can be made to work ... The life of a trials dad , never a dull moment !

Now that's trials !!!....

To anyone keeping score ... The old puller Doug sent me , 19mm x 1.0 fits perfect ! The treaded hole in the flywheel is deep enough so the puller was able to engage all of it's threads and then some .! Thank you very much Doug . And I found a 2.50 x 21 trials tire , originally intended for a honda trail 90/110 . Brand new and still soft , but a 4 ply rating and a Chen shin 3.50 18 for the back , also 4ply . I doubt my daughter will be able to tell the differance between a 2ply and 4ply tire ... Now to round up stock size sprockets (415 chain ! ) so I can use the bike while having the OE sprockets copied a little thicker , to take a 420 or 428 chain width .
A little progres is always encouraging !

Light application of foam air filter oil , squeeze out excess , install ... Or run a K&N like I do (in EVERYTHING I own that needs a airfilter , except my push mower !) And don't make the mistake of over oiling ...

I've used the adjustable levers obtained from www.bjracing.com , on my boys ty80 for their small hands . Very stout levers with a leverage adj. and a lever postion adj. A real quality product .

I use Geof Arrons Fat bars , Tag makes them and they are quite stout . And it's handle , not handel ...
Glenn
And any bar will bend given enough stress , or would you rather your top clamp break off ?
