    Fantic Trivia ?

Do we know what years the bicycles were made/sold ? I know mine originally was owned By Mark Older in cali . I guess he was one of the importers back then ...
  3. I just received my Fantic 20 x 20 in a box and put it together and rode it ...(Kinda ) A few questions to you bicycle folks , 1 , who's signature is that on my bike ? 2 ; what year were these made ? 3 ; How much harder is it gonna be to ride when I put the 28 tooth stock front sprocket on to replace the 40 tooth one that was adapted ? I feel really old right now ... And were all the early bikes tanks like this one ? Thanks , I'm now a 3 Fantic Family , A 240 , a 50 , and now a 20x20? Glenn

    Fantic Trivia ?

I just unpacked , reassembled , and rode my new toy ... And I have one trivia ? to ask , Who's signature is that on my bicycle ? And boy am I out of shape , 3 minutes on it and I'm beat !!! I can't imagine what it'll be like when I take the 40 tooth front sprocket off and put the stock 28 back on ......... But it's all stock right down to the domino levers and grips ! Is this fantic obsession curable or do I have to go to a 12 step program ? Glenn
  5. And wouldn't you just know it , Chris is shipping me a forged twin ring piston and tank for my 240 at this time . I'll have to ride the 309 and see how the motor compares to my excellently ported 212 barrel that I was planning on getting replated to match the new piston . Whomever ported this one back in the day new what they were up to , it's a whole lot different than the known stock cylinders I've got ... And I've already got enough new 240 ign. parts to last a lifetime ... What ign. is in the 309 ? I may just have a aircooled mono to play with too , instead of the cut and weld route ... Glenn
  6. Thanks Lee , And besides What's one more project ??? And I would be getting a complete rideable 309 , so all the little bits are alot easier !!!

    My New Toy

My mistake , I thought the 240 was the only Fantic produced motor made back then . Lee will know !!! I guess they made 2 125's at that time .? Glenn
  8. To any and all out there , Does anyone know if the 249 cc 1991 fantic 309 is a reed valve engine and if this would be a good choice for a 340 conversion into my spare 240 ? I may have a chance to get a complete 309 (blue engine ) for a siily cheap price ... Glenn

    My New Toy

Hmmnn... Take a look at the engine #'s back under the carb ... I think you may have a 240 there , as I thought the 125's had minerelli engines . Or maybe I'm completely confused which happens way to often ! Glenn Or it's a fm237 ? This may shed some light . http://www.fanticmotor.asso.fr/r02.htm
  10. Does this mean you took your training wheels off ? Glenn
  11. Thanks for the effort Lee , but at that price + shipping I'll get a chen-sing here local for about 40.00 usd . instead of a unkown age ,never heard of brand ... and I'll just put a 2.75 on the front ! No one that I can find makes a 2.50 anymore ! The shop dust on it scares me , and she won't know the diferance between 2 ply or 4ply anyways ... Not a pro level rider YET . Glenn
  12. So I'm gathering from this thread that the excel rims That I just shipped Off to get some spokes made to fit my fantic hubs , I should add a second rimlock in back , eventhough the bead of the rim is serrated and I got a new agressive rimlock to use instead of the worthless smooth rubber covered stock ones on my fantic ? The rim is prepunched for one but I've got no problem drilling another hole ... I would think that excel would provide room for two as the rear rim actually is for a cr250 / 400 ... Glenn And Lee , I requested some extra spokes as the price is the same for 36 or 40 so I'll get you the dimensions .
  13. Pm me and I'll send you my address . And you need to check out www.twinshock .org . The ITSA website , I beleive we've got a few members in your neck of the woods ... Thanks , Glenn
  14. Well Welcome Back ...! As another old plonker (49 this year) Who grew up in new england riding netra and neta events a whole bunch in the early 70's , then life happened , You won't find a better form of compition to get back into . I would suggest finding a good old twinshock bike and get to playing asap ... then if you feel the need to go further get a modern bike and jump into the mix . But take care of your body first , 'cause if your not comfy and can't concentrate while riding trials , it isn't much fun ... Although anyday on my old fantic beats just about anything else ... Have fun ! Glenn
  15. I just double checked , it's 19 or 20 mm at the most ... And Lee thank you very much for the parts manual . Got it today ! Glenn
  16. That's a bit big for the 50cc Minerelli motor ... I've got one of those . Glenn
  17. Thanks... Oh , and 180cc of fork oil ! Glenn
  18. Hi Lee , Just a quick ? That you may know .... Upon disassmbly of the forks and steering head, I discovered ( i think ) that the FM330 and the 240 use the same bearings in the steering neck ... or is my bad eyesight playing tricks on me and I'll have to order some other bearings , rather than use one of the new sets I have here already ... And do you know what size the puller for the flywheel would be ? Just trying to eliminate the lighting coil and wire ... Thanks , Glenn
  19. Ok it's been a while ... Again . Been in atlanta alot learning all of the things that can go wrong with a nissan GTR ... But thanks to the folks at B&J racing for helping me live my nightmares/fantasies she's starting to look like a trials bike again ... If only I had more time and energy ... I'll get it ridable , then send the virgin barrel I got off the bay along with a fresh reedcage off to the GURU to massage them into something Mick Andrews never imagined when he helped design the ty80 back in the day ... And it will get stripped and painted with alot of black epoxy while I polish cases and fiddle with the never ending details ... But I don't think it'll ride as good as our "new" little fantic , but it was built with all the right intentions ... Although it may just work really well !? Glenn
  20. OK !!! Here are some shots fresh from the toy room ... I got a little upset when due to age and a good scrub with dish soap , most of the fantic lettering on the tank washed off !!! But there is enough left so a pattern and a shot of white krylon fusion spray will repair that . And Bill @ frankfeild fantic solved my fork seal blues , He's shipping me some along with a bunch of side cover grommets for both fantics , Now the fun part starts in earnist ... Glenn (and my daughter thinks I got it for her ...! )

    Kiehn Carb

A 26 OKO would most likley be the best bet , A 28 kehin will help top end if your a pro class rider , but at the sacrafice of a loss of bottom end and very poor throttle response . As copey said , Just overkill ... Bigger is not always better , if lose your intake velocity performance will suffer Drastically . V-force and a 26mm Okowould be sweet ... Glenn Check OKO .uk (classic trials ) , He's probly already done it and/or will have the jetting down already ...
  22. And if my experiences with the man is any indication ... He sells nothing until it's time ... You can't rush a craftsman , who enjoys his craft ...! And Lee if you see this , My hubs and Excels are on the way to Buchanons in Cali... To get a loose lace with stainless , they said it would be the quickest way since they didn't have the oe spoke spec handy and I'd have to send them samples of what I'm after ... I'll get a few spares and get you the length . It's only time right , So I get to play with the TY and the Fm330 till then . (may take the 50 to a event ... just to try it out A little stop leak in the forks ...) Got any seal dimensions ? Glenn
  23. OKO is the only way to go ! Weekend before last was the first time since I shattered my clavicle last april that I was able to go out and spend some Quality time riding my bike .(besides just playing in my yard ) I went to NC. to help scope out a new venue to hold events , the day after it had rained up there . (North Carolina clay +dead leaves+water makes for a greasy mess ...) The OKO that came from Classic trial last year completly transformed my 240 ! Vastly Improved throttle response , Much more smoother power across the whole rev range , Will idle really , really low and still pull steep slippery climbs in 3rd gear , pulling cleanly all the way . Also found I got improved traction due to a much more controllable throttle . Some of the best $ I've ever spent on a bike mod . Truly shows the time was spent to make it work . Bolt on and ride ... Just make sure your carb to intake rubber is still pliable or fit a fresh one at the same time . Glenn
