  1. Lee , I knew I saw a photo of a Fantic with excels on it somewhere ... The shot is on Chris's website in the 340 section ... I just hope he used the stock spokes and honda spec excel rims ! To the best of my knowledge (which is quite limited ...) The late model hondas lace in the same pattern . All I can do is try , the lenghts look about right , may just have to trim a bit of spoke off the inside of rim , so I don't give myself flats ! Glenn
  2. Lee ; lacing and truing the wheels is not the issue , I've done harley's , honda's , MG-TF's and Jag wheels ... Patience and time and a drawing or photo of the spoke pattern is key ! (or a duplicate wheel to copy ) I was just wondering about the nipple seat in the rims . If the Excels and Akronts are the same or close enough to seat correctly . Wanted to build them next weekend as I cracked my rear rim last time out . and these real nice Black 36 hole excels were basicly basically free . (Ok ,so I did a timing belt /waterpump/cam & crank seals on a buddys nissan Quest van , All I did was get him the factory parts @ cost and supply the labor . 2hrs of my time for 2 still in the box rims ? pretty fair deal me thinks !) I should probably just bite the bullet and order up some nice stainless spokes and nipples and just be done with it ... Glenn
  3. As the application of some TLC to this sweet old bike starts I need a bit of info ... How much fork oil do they hold in the 30mm forks ??? ... Still staring first kick and waiting on new cables before I actually take the carb off and clean it ! But all the spokes snugged up and wheels are true after some penetrating oil and patience . Does anybody still make a good 2.oox21 and a 3.50 x18 tire ? the rock hard OE pirelli's gotta go ! Moulding knubs intact or not ... and I need some side cover grommets for my 240 and the 50 , 10 total ... Thanks world , I'll post some photo's as soon as my new usb cable shows ... (Already modified some od XR100 footpegs tofit as the stock ones were bent a bit ... Regards , cheers , thanks , etc ... Glenn PS. , will the stock spoke on my 240 fit some excel rims I was given correctly , or do I have to spring for some fresh spokes and nipples ?
  4. And Copey if you see this you said I'd have to judge this 50 ... Well after only two days of sitting with fresh fuel in her (and a new petcock and fuel line to stop a fuel leak ) , she fired first kick and proceded to do wheelie's at will in first and second gear with my 200lbs on her ! Think of it as a 240 - 70lbs and 10hp and a 3.50 x 18 back tire ... and about 2 1/2 inches skinnier ! What a cool bike . Glenn
  5. Gotta go buy a new camera too ! Glenn
  6. Just rode the fantic 50 I got for my daughter ... Cost of trip to Ohio and bike ... $650.00 weekend alone with my 15 year old young lady , priceless ! The look on her face when I got this one owner , still has moulding knubs on the oe pirelli's , bike to fire up and ride around the yard with some fresh premix ... EVEN BETTER !!!! The fork seals let go right away but still what a great bike for my kid ! Will be a real easy restore project ... Glenn
  7. Lee ; Pm me with some info ... ! I can't read german ! But they look nice and sturdy. Glenn
  8. Cope ; You mean save ones like these for when they get about 18 yrs. old ... Glenn
  9. Not to sound racist or anything , But I think Obama needs to be informed of the role model James Stewart is For alot of young men out there , and maybe help promote the sports ... keeps kids off the streets ! Glenn And I've found that you can send the letter multiple times ... yourself ...
  10. Cool ! and I told you the more you rode it , the more you'd like it ... Italian redheads rock !!!! cheers , Glenn And where did you get/make your kicker ?
  11. Or will this just mean that folks with kids , (like me , All 3 under 15 and all have ama cards ) will have to buy the supplamental accident insurance the ama offers for our kids to compete or ride at a sanctioned location ...? I know from exp. some ins. co's ? what you were doing when you got hurt. I think the ama's insurance may not be a bad deal . And on the same note what ever happened to frivolus lawsuits getting throne out of court ... Case in point , burgler breaks into garage while no one is home , emptys house into garage , locks self into garage due to broken door opener and man door to house locking . Lives on potato chips and warm soda till the residents get home a few days later ... arrested on b&e . serving time , SUES homeowner and garage door opener mfg. and wins $$$!!! AFTER CONVICTION of B&E ! How do the crimanals sue john q puplic and/or the police and win ???? What is happening to the morals of our beloved nation ??? enough sat. afternoon rant ..................... Glenn

    Sparkplugs

I run a denso IWF22 iridium plug with great results ,(makes the most of our weak ignitions ...) If you don't want to pop for that a normal denso W22FS-U works well too and is a direct cross reference from the stock plug . And I've not touched the iridium plug for well over a year and she still fires first kick !!! Works for me ! Glenn Oh , and a ngk B6hs will replace the stock champion L82 too ...
  13. I would have to agree , If I could afford to buy it , I would certainly be able to afford to ride it ! If you can't play with history , whats the point ? Like Lee stated a while back . Buy rare paintings and hang them on the wall to look at . Or buy rare trials bikes and throw them up rocks at every opportunity ... No Brainer for me ... I just can't afford to do much of either right now Glenn And I have to wonder what the reserve is ? Already well over 10k US.!!!
  14. Alan ; It's similar to the system SWM mounted on the bike back in the day ... But as woody stated it will make your clutch cable about 6 " longer . But depending on application it can be added at either end of the cable where there is room to hang it . If you can solidly mount the little box they perform much better . And I'm sure Bob @ B&J racing can make a new shorter clutch cable to fill your needs . And not to be rude or anything before all this , You do own a cable luber , right ? Best of luck with your experiments . Are you gonna try out some of the MTR events this year ? Jim is setting up classes and lines for us twinshock folks too !... Glenn
  15. YUP ! and it works great too !!! Glenn
  16. Alan , Before you mod your clutch , Check this out http://www.pitposse.com/eapuclsy.html Or try one of B&J's adjustable pull levers . The lever alone made the clutch light enough for my 9yr olds little hands on his ty .. and one finger for me . Or if your feeling crafty Hebo makes a universal hyd. clutch conversion kit . I've never tried one , but have been told by folks in the know they work well ... Magura used to make one too , I beleive . Glenn
  17. Check out the current Baker award winner on the ITSA homepage ...www.twinshock.org , I think thats kinda what it started life as ... Glenn
  18. Been awhile but it's a rolling chassis now ... Excuse the bad shots , they came off a video camera , cause my usb cable for my camera is missing in action ... And yeah it's still real ugly ! Glenn Working kickstand and all !!
  19. I can relate ... The only reason I'm still alive is a Bell Motostar ... Eventhough it broke into 2 peices , I only spent 4 days in a COMA !!! Glenn And proper boots let you ride alot harder ...
  20. And I saw in the news yesterday that Fiat is contemplating buying into chrysler ...???? Best of luck to Scorpa on survival Glenn
  21. On Dan's comment about the chinese ... I was reading the jan issue of car&driver yesterday while my daughter was getting her long blonde locks cut off , and in the editorial section was a comment about the private corp. that now owns chrysler possably parting it out to the chinese ... And Scorpa just can't go away !!! I still want a sy250f !!!
  22. Dan's words of wisdom , Priceless ! " Don't stress about the Tony Bou videos. We can all do that in our dreams but... The simple truth is trials is all about the little personal victorys. Getting over the rock you've never made it over, cleaning that nasty section on the last loop, beating your buddy that you know is a better rider just once. That's what makes it worth doing. It's all about feeling like a ten year old again. If only for a little while. " I beleive thats about 75% of the reason I ride , it's for me ... Glenn
