  1. Keihin is better for smoothness and power once it's jetted correctly but it has to be correct to make it worthwhile.Plenty of people on here can advise you on what they use as a good start point .Dellorto is adequate for most, depends if you're good enough to find a standard 300 wanting more..Dellorto seems to tolerate a small amount of dirt or water better, handy if you're a long way from your van and tools
  2. You might find something worth having for £1500 but it's borderline ,if you could find 2250 you'd get something newer and lees likely to need work,Suggest a 2010/11 beta 250 if you're going off GasGas which I prefer out of the two..buy on condition rather than age and take a friend who knows what they're looking at when you view it.Dont know where you live but Southern bikes generally have an easier time than northern ones. Good luck
  3. If the spares were made by subcontractors those companies will still want to produce and sell them so no problem and know they're going to get paid for them. Most of the consumables are used by other brands anyway. All the importers will want spares to be available so will be doing everything possible for it to happen, there's a lot of bikes out there.Prices of spares might have to rise to sort this out, which is better than having an unusable bike for the sake of a £50 part which is unavailable.Riders choose the brand they ride cos it's the one they want, most aren't going to want to buy something they like less after taking a hit selling a Gas gas at the moment.Dad of 2 is right in his views but Maico made most of the bike inhouse so when they folded so did the spares
  4. Sad reflection of the WTC when one of the few riders capable of winning a round has to ask for support, let alone the salary that his talent should provide
  5. They're not fiery but still powerful but ride it first .
  6. How does a company rack up a debt of that size without the management not realising something major needed changing and allowing it to go this far.Surprised the banks allowed to it to happen too,no wonder the Spanish economy is in the shape it is if this is normal .Gasgas 249 has found out afair bit,but knowing what happened and proving it are quite different.Hopefully the new lot will do it properly, there's a lot of decent people's livelihoods involved
  7. Unless you're open to centre champion contender or better ,a 250 is plenty.A fair number of the bigger bikes have had owners of that status and had a hard time .Better to wait a bit and get the right bike, most of us have bought the wrong one at some time and regretted it
  8. Wonder what the new guys will have to do differently to avoid creating debts like we see now .Cant see the banks being too keen this time round so they will have to put their own in ,likely to make them more focussed .Good luck to them, hope they can make it work
  9. If the mains are lubricated by the gear oil like a GasGas the oil wants changing very frequently as the oil gets contaminated by the clutch and gears .Look at what is on the magnetic sump plug at oil change time,it's been going through the bearings too
  10. I could be wrong but I understood Beta were waiting for the next delivery so you can't buy anything at present apart from Sherco
  11. Are GasGas paying him?Maybe his other sponsors are keeping him going.Unfortunatly he has nowhere else to go ,all the other factory ride are taken
  12. I have a pair..Very stiff when new and need a lot of breaking in but once there they're great.Slightly heavier than my previous Gaernes but I've not hurt my feet since wearing them, the leather is thicker.Theres a hard rubber insert on the arches so the footrests don't chew through the boot .They aren't waterproof but no worse than any other brand in that respect ,I'd buy another pair,my feet are quite wide and they fit well
  13. Seems a shame to get it dirty, good work
  14. Fair enough its your money, but the twin shock project won't ride as well as the tr34 and be worth the best part of not much, while an original example of a bike that was one of the best of its time disappears
  15. Most petrol stations around here let you use their jet wash ,not had a problem .Only downside is if you don't have a van and the roads are wet ,spray makes the bike dirty before you get it home
  16. Brilliant for motox, which they're made for,as much good as a chocolate teapot for trials .Get some trials specific boots, you won't look very cool to trials riders in the wrong boots anyway
  17. Clutch becomes heavier on these if the fibre clutch plates swell, which sometimes happens if ATF is used in the gearbox .You need to remove and measure the thickness of the clutch plate pack which should be 9.85 mm max .You can get thinner steel plates to achieve this Theres info on this on the GasGas forums
  18. I wouldn't fancy getting run over by any motox bike ,either 2t or 4t.My 09 rmz 450 has greater ground clearance than my friends 77 rm370 and a smooth sump shield, the exhaust on both exits above the crank case.you have to go back a long way to find a low slung expansion chamber
  19. Can you borrow a coil off another bike?Does it run properly till it cuts out?W hat do you have to do to get it going after it cuts out?
  20. Good illustration of why the WTC is not what it was.The no stop rule as applied here is farcical, most of the sections are more arena trial than outdoor and are not possible to ride non stop. Its time for a re-think
  21. Have you had the airbox off, there's a rubber guard attached to the frame that can get dislodged and restrict the air intake on replacement. If not go back over what you've done since it ran ok
  22. I use wire wool on mine,it makes it a bit shinier but takes out most rubbish that seems to burn onto the pipe

    Help Rev 3 250

    Sounds like £750 to me
  24. Fix it properly ,what you've done won't last,at least it allows you to ride it to see if it needs anything else

    Help Rev 3 250

Most likely a carb clean and a set of clutch plates would fix it.How much is it?Does it still look loved or neglected?Ask the owner how long he's had it and what his maintenance schedule is,I'm guessing not good or he would fix it before sale .Take a knowledgeable mate with you if you go any further
