    Gas Gas Future?

Maybe GasGas are too big for the amount of bikes they sell, their wage bill and costs of supporting WTC and WEC teams must be a factor . Ive also noticed less new GasGas around over the last couple of years ,there's more Shercos and Betas with a few Ossas,Montesa and Jgas all competing for the same market .I think GasGas have got some big questions to answer
  2. I haven't found it to be better or worse than any of the other good 2t oils ,it does smell a bit sickly though

    Gas Gas Future?

Enduro bikes are probably what has kept Sherco and GasGas afloat,Beta make scooters as well and I would think are the most financially stable .I feel something's got to change in the trials market,it's presently too small to support this many manufacturers, and will get harder when TRS and Vertigo start production Hopefully GasGas can come through thisi it's the most popular brand out there, but there must be a limit to how long they can be propped up
  4. Looks to me like she nipped up unless you let the filter get really dirty and it sucked dirt through but I think you would have seen that in the intake whe you cleaned the filter All the other manufacturers recommend far richer oil mix as do the oil companies I would go with them once you've rebuilt it
  5. Check the frame for cracks around the headstock and rear shock mount Is the bashplate really scarred up or out of shape? Is the kickstart pivot loose, does it look well used or abused? They are a brilliant bike if you get a.good one but some have had a hard life in top riders hands and deteriorated too far to be worth buying Best to find one that you know the history of if possible I don't know what size engine you want but the 250 tends to appeal to mature riders who maintain them well and ride easier sections Unless you're good enough to fire up 5foot steps you won't find a 250 lacking. Find a good one and you'll love it
  6. They weren't that reliable that year, the gearboxes were weak and the build quality wasn't the best .They were ok by 2004 so it didn't take long to improve them .It may have later bits fitted by now and be ok.It looks clean enough check the rear linkage bearings for play the clutch will rattle in neutral but go quiet when pulled in .Ask what the owner what maintenance he does on it you want to hear about frequent gear oil changes and air filter cleaning Are the fasteners on it good or chewed up old bikes are a minefield you can be lucky but don't expect too much at that age and price I don't know what the 2nd hand market is like in France but in UK it would be more like £900/1000

    Vertigo Launch

My 2009 suzuki rmz450 runs perfectly hot or cold without needing an unsuitably high tick over so it seems it can be done without a battery . The bike has never needed any attention to the fi set up which is as well cos I wouldn't know what to do.My view is its great when it's right, definitely better than a carb but if it goes wrong at a meeting I'm stuffed which means a short push back to the pits. Its a different story on a trials bike when you could be 10 miles away
  8. Adjustable olle looks the best combination of cost and ride quality plus you won't have to change the links. You'd have to be a good expert to find anything lacking with that Spend the money you save on some lessons You'll improve much more quickly
  9. Atf in the gearbox sometimes helps with clutch slip, some synthetic oils seem too slippery and improve the gear change but make the clutch slip
  10. Reigers as fitted to the racing aren't as good as the raga one .ohlins is better than both and more durable Reiger needs servicing sooner Unless you're capable of national championship riding you won't need the upgrade .Better off spending the money on tyres you'll lose more marks through lack of grip than anything else

    Is It Worth It?

Pull out of the deal and demand your money back, there's no guarantee when you ll take delivery 2014 model in 2015 is not worth anywhere normal rrp look at the discount deals that are available on new old stock Are the 2015s in stock?if so demand one instead if not who knows when You've been let down enough already personally I would buy something else.Ossa don't have the best reputation, whether they survive won't be helped by this sort of thing.Vertigo and TRS are coming into an already crowded market next year,I can't see all the brands surviving but only time will tell

Fi will allow the bike to run clean straight away but you still should warm it up to avoid the chance of a cold seizure.Honda have done a good job on the fi on the 4rt but they have much more experience to draw on and their build quality is far better than any other trials bike .We'll have to wait and see how well Vertigo do it and how well it copes with harsh UK conditions (ssdt will be test)if it's ok there it'll be fine anywhere Good luck to them might give the other manufacturers a shake up
  13. Trials bike would be good in the tight and twisty stuff but hopelessly slow on more open going .steering geometry would be well twitchy at speed ,no seat and too small a tank range.Think you'd finish it off and be too slow anyway some of the events I've done have been flat out in top gear on a Kawasaki 250 2t motox in places and the quick guys were passing me Trials bike suspension is no good on fast rough stuff either unless you like falling off

Honda success at wtc is a lot to do with Toni Bou and a large budget .All the others face a big struggle against that
  15. Extra weight harder to stop on steep drops and lees acceleration and less agility
  16. Are you using atf?if so this makes the clutch sharper .Proper gear oil makes it more progressive though sometimes at the expense of slight drag
  17. Best build quality out there with good maintenance it'll go on for ever in clubman events .Try one first though not everyone gets on with them
  18. I have the brown leather Hebo boot which I find still protective when wet but a touch heavier than my previous Gaernes .I have had a few bruises when wearing the Gaernes none from the Hebos Hebos take a bit of wearing in,but I feel more secure wearing them

    Reliability

My son and I have had 6 of them between us 3x300 2 x250 and 1 280 the newest being 2011 The 300s each had anew kickstart gear the 2010 300 did a few Btc rounds and tough events and lots of practice It still rode fine when it was sold The only other bits we replaced were the consumables you'd put on any bike.We changed the gear oil every 4trials cleaned out the airbox and air filter every meeting Nothing else went wrong finished every event entered. I Have recently swapped to jtg for a change more than anything which I feel rides better but if it proves a wrong decision I would not hesitate to have another GasGas
  21. Agree with the above post .If the Mont is still in good shape buy it .The GasGas was a good bike in its day but nowhere the build quality of the Mont(built by Honda)The BETA is cheap and would be lighter and easier to ride but the electrics and clutches on them can be poor Trials suspension is softer than enduro but I wouldn't worry about it it won't hold you back
  22. Some people change them for the earlier ajp brakes which were far more reliable Gas Gas only used the Formula kit for a year.If you're going to keep the bike it's worth replacing them but it's not cheap
  23. It might not be the carb, they can get like that when the silencer needs re packing

    Vertigo Launch

This doesn't seem to have much to do with Vertigo any more can the 2 main protagonists call a truce had enough now

Bmw and Montesa(read Honda) are more experienced with efi and their build quality is rather better than most
