  1. Flywheel weight is defo a good mod, calms the power down and makes it easier to ride, but won't make it easier to kick overLowering the compression will make it easier to start ,but with the weight as well might make it too lazy.I'd lower the comp first, and see if its how you want it
  2. I'd weld some gusset plates between the tubes to make doubly sure. Some one's sure abused it in the past.Cracks that bad don't happen in one trial, what's the rest of the bike like.I'd check the rear shock mounts too,not unheard of for them to give out.Don't know your mechanical ability,if it's not good ask someone you trust to look it over, could end up a money pit, never seen one crack this bad unfortuneatly
  3. What sort of a--ehole sells a bike in that condition, cant believe they didn't know.I would bite the financial bullet and replace the casings with the standard Pro casings rather than the RAGA magnesium ones.Magnesium can be difficult to weld successfully, you'd have to strip the engine anyway to do it.Worth replacing the main bearings and seals while its apart. They are terrific bikes, you'll love it when its done
  4. The white spring that Steve Saunders sells lifts the rear end up,but the damping is still soft.As for the forks abit more preload achieved by a15mm bigger spacer and changing the fork oil to a grade thicker should help.
  5. Had a dunlop on a 250 gas gas,not as good in mud as a mich or irc.Migft be alright on rocks but there aren't many down here
  6. 550 mll of atf dextron 3 will do it
  7. Think it works on twin shock and pre65 as the sections are more straightforward and most riders in these rounds are more mature and learnt to ride this way, whereas the younger ones learnt in stop permitted trials so have had to develop trick riding skills to ride much tighter sections

There's a good reason most people use Mich or IRC.You lose more marks in trials through poor grip than any other reason,Mich are best on rocks,IRC slightly better in mud but wear out quickly on rocks
  9. Get it helicoiled, any other way you would be worried if it was leaking or fallen out.Gear box would soon be shot with no or little oil,as would the main bearings as the gear oil lubes these too on a pro
  10. I was one of the observers on the day,we were told before the start to give the benefit of the doubt to the riders.Trouble is everybody has their own interpretation of this,so the riders dont know where they stand.I had no problem with riders questioning the scores, maybe that shows I was too lenient, but virtually every ride would have been a 5 if I had penalized every momentary stop.My view is stop permitted rules with no st0p sections would work. I've spoken to no one who thinks the no stop rules are the answer for all trials. It certainly isn't the answer to getting more people into riding and buying bikes
  11. In Line filter is essential, there's no downside to it,fit one
  12. It will definetly be a rotax at that year, wouldnt advise buying it as spares would be a problem.Old trials bikes can be money pits unless its lived a pampered life,I'd wait till I could afford something better and more common, unless its silly cheap and is still ok.There weren't any specific problems with them, you're looking for wear and tear.Take a mechanically minded mate with you when viewing, you might miss something important
  13. Pushing the pickup about is altering the ignition timing,it will run in reverse if its too far advanced.I dont think the pickup should be that movable,it aso wants to be as close to the flywheel as possible to get the best sparkTake the plug cap off, hold the HT lead 6mm from the cylinder and kick it over.If the spark will not jump the gap the spark is too weak to run properly.Do you know anybody with a similar bike so you could swap parts one at a time till it runs right
  14. Sounds like it needs a new clutch basket, depends on how deep the grooves are, probably get away with filing about 0.25 mm.Look on the Beta forum for clutch fix,its close to the forum start. This will tell you all you need to know, the clutches are very similar
  15. Don't you think Gas Gas should speak to Formula about supplying brakes in this state, save a lot of warranty claims
  16. Might work out cheaper to shop around, but a lot easier to buy the All Balls kit.The quality is fine, have used them myself
  17. Had mine for a year,look as new,no wear or fading,buy some
  18. If its that far out i wouldn't risk it.When you've dented it in enough to get clearance on all the areas mentioned it won't have much more capacity anyway, and it'll be a lot thinner/weaker where you've stretched the plastic to give clearance.I wouldn't chance it/me going up in flames if it leaks out on the pipe, would you?
  19. If you feel a 250 evo is lively,a 280 or 300 gas gas would most likely be too much. Not much point buying a bike thats too powerful then trying to calm it down.I've recently changed from a 280 Gas Gas to a 290 evo and find the power delivery easier to use.Can you try the bikes you fancy at a trial?
  20. Nice project, but pointless as a practical bike. How long would the spokes last when they are on the outside of the rims, and a stone caught up in the belt drive would soon wreck that
  21. Very good meeting, intelligent use of the ground ,very slippery, thanks to all involved
  22. You can bend it if its hot enough.Rub some soap on the place you want to bend it,warm it up[i use the gas ring on the oven when the boss is out shopping]when the soap goes black its the right heat to bend. You don't have long before its lost the heat, repeat the process rather than bend it too much and snap it.Sounds like witchcraft but it works
  23. Think i might be speaking to the previous owner for selling a bike in that state, unless it was cheap.Someone bodged it to flog it by the sound of things.I'd be inclined to give it a good check over before spending the money on a new flywheel.Often older bikes cost too much to sort out with spares costing what they do.Sorry to sound pessimistic, but seen people caught out in the past like this
  24. I had this problem, which I solved by fitting a brake hose banjo bolt with a bleed nipple in it,sourced off ebay. You can leave the remains of the old nipple in place,it won't leak as it's still tight. Was easy to bleed too, saved a lot of grief
  25. Anyone thought about putting this to the vote to the riders this affects? To me you have the same rules globally,to ride no stop one week then stop permitted next week in a different area is never going to work
