It is 258cc,it was called a 280 for some reason
-
Sounds like the ignition isn't advancing with revs as it should, which I think points to a duff cdi.Worth speaking to Steve Saunders before you get your wallet out.Do you know anyone with the same bike you try the CDI from
-
I thought it's ATF that swells the clutch plates, but if you're using it with no problems carry on.I always ran our Gassers on synthetic with no problems so I don't know the true answer
-
Not worth the risk, get the right stuff.Might be ok,if it's not you still need to buy the right oil,and repair the damage
-
Looking at what it should look like,my idea wouldn't work, you need the o ring.Shame,it would have been an easy fix
-
I had one new back then,as above front brake weak by modern standards but far better than a drum brake.Linkage had bushes, not bearings which didn't last long.Good motor, steered well, air box let in too much dirt. Was soon outdated by the Beta tr34 and the modified mono shock Yamaha in my opinion
-
Would hacksawing a screwdriver slot in what's left work?
-
You've got to be pretty good to need better suspension, waste of money unless you're centre expert level or better
-
Sounds like you'd be happier with a Beta then, which is a lot softer, and has the most lock of all.Sounds like you've convinced yourself that you can't ride the TRS,once that thought is there it doesn't go away.I don't like Beta, but a lot of riders do,Personal preference really
-
They don't tend to alter much unless you rev the nuts off it frequently, then they close up which makes it harder to start when hot as the valves don't seal completely
-
Set rear shock to give 15mm sag, grips better.Removed air box and split in 2,remade joint with Stikaflex, steps it sucking in dirt through the join.10mm spacers under front mudguard brace, jitsie carb tuning screws, slow throttle,IRC rear tyre.Love the bike
-
I'd go for the TRRS as well, admitidly I'm biased as I have one but I think it's better to ride and easy to maintain than the others you mention
-
Lot of people cut the sprocket guard off the ignition cover as it used to clog up with mud, better off without it
-
I probably wouldn't have noticed the leak in those conditions either, the water splashing on it probably cooled it enough for it not to run badly.New CDI,probably a new piston after it seized and your problems will be over.No one round here has had any serious problems with them, but they're all 2018 or newer. Its a lottery buying used bikes,I've been lucky with mine, looks like you haven't
-
It must have got incredibly hot to melt a water pump impeller.,surprised you didn't notice anything amiss.,likewise the coolant leak.My 2018,280,bought secondhand had a slight leak on the tank ,same place as yours. Its easily fixed with a bead of plastic metal round it.Nothing else has gone wrong but I know if you fill the rad to the top it can pop the water pump seal as the water expands when hot.Thr pressure release valves fitted don't always work
-
Just try them the other way round
-
Ignition timing isn't adjustable on these, which is a shame,it would be an easy way of calming it down.An extra cylinder base gasket would take the edge off it.
-
Exhaust pipe is bent, shouldn't be that far in,loosen it at the cylinder and see if it'll come out enough to give a gap and not melt the coolant hoses
-
I had a 2011 250,certainly wasn't too snappy,was just right,was nowhere near as spiteful as 300 Sherco or 300 Gas gas.Are you sure you've not bought a250 with a 300 top end on it?
-
I put 2 and 2 together and made 5.Cant see a problem with what you propose
-
It does look the right way up in the pic doesn't it?Maybe try contacting Bosi,I'm assuming that's where it came from
-
It's fitted with the spring preload adjusters at the bottom
-
Why do you want to try a cast iron liner?is the cylinder deeply scored.Theres companies out there that can repair seriously damaged cylinders and replate them
-
About 70/1 with a good synthetic 2/stroke oil
-
How much is new 250 beta or gas gas where you are then?Sounds like there's not a lot of riders if availability is difficult,or do people keep bikes a long time?Think for Tenaci to be successful here they need to be half the price of an established brand, maybe it's different where you are
