  1. In Motion for parts.. http://www.inmotiontrials.com/product-category/montesa/ To register follow the guide here. Would recommend using DVLA advice now to take all the trouble away.. http://www.trialscentral.com/forums/topic/54839-road-registering-guide/
  2. Best deal around is GT85 in a 400ml spray can at Tesco. Just click & collect next day at your local branch!! Simples and only £2.25 This does not mess up & swell up rubber like WD40 does! Smells great as well !! http://www.tesco.com/direct/gt85-spray-lubricant-400ml/213-1016.prd
  3. Thanks, but got a copy of results now.... Must say Gerry had a great ride or is he down in the wrong class? I think the latter !!
  4. If anyone has the results i would appreciate a copy.. Cheers. As for the pit bikes, a letter from John Collins at the ACU is out banning the pit bikes with new rules for the Sammy Miller Championships. !! See below.. Sammy Miller rule changes from the ACU.. Now as below for 215 and so there can be no doubt For Classes 3 & 6 : Twinshock, Drum Brakes and not eligible for Class 2 or 5 respectively AND AN ORIGINAL OR REPLICA /SILHOUETTE FRAME OF A MACHIME COMMECIALLY AVAILABLE AND ADVERTISED PRIOR TO 1990. The twin shock and drum brakes should be easy to determine. The latter is where it gets controversial – perhaps. If it “ looks” like the machine it purports to represent – we can regard it as a replica/ silhouette If it does not – or just has a bit if it looks like the original – it cannot be deemed to be a replica/ silhouette Therefore, it must follow a machime not complying with these three things must go into Non Championship class, either on Route A or Rouite B Enjoyable day out, but no Championship points John Collins Chairman ACU T & E The intention of the amendments made to the classes of the ACU Sammy Miller Trial Championship was an attempt to bring the classes of Twinshock machines, which often had the Replica or Silhouette descriptions, into line with the other British Bike classes which have been in existence for many years. The desire was, and still is, to prevent modern mono machines being converted to Twinshocks and also to confirm that a Replica should be just that i.e a Replica of something previously made and in line with the overall philosophy of the Series. The age of a rider, capacity of any particular machine is not a relevant argument against this attempt. However it does appear that the introduction of the words “50 machines” has caused concern and therefore for 2015 the criteria for CLASSES 3 & 6 will be: For machines with twin-shock rear suspension and drum brakes as at the time of manufacture which are not eligible for class 2 and 5. All machines must have original frames or have replica/silhouette frames of machines that were commercially available and advertised prior to 1990. Additional Non Championship Twin-shock Specials Class: For machines with twin-shock rear suspension and drum brakes which are not eligible for Classes 3 and 6. This class is intended for competitors to enjoy the principle of this Series with specials which are not eligible. This additional class will be included on both Route A and Route B PLEASE NOTE: FOR 2016 IT IS INTENDED THAT A COMPLETE REVIEW OF ALL THE CLASSES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN AS THE TRIALS AND ENDURO COMMITTEE REMAIN OF THE VIEW THAT THE ORIGINAL PHILOSOPHY OF THIS SERIES IS BEING LOST AND NEEDS EXAMINATION.
  5. Most trials bikes have floating front disks. My Gassers do. Don't mess with them!
  6. Nice to see some clarification. I guess both the pit bikes that entered the twin shock classes will be moved into class 7 or be disqualified from Sunday's Sammy Miller round and in fiture treat the series with some degree of respect to what is was originally set out to be!
  7. http://www.inmotiontrials.com/product/putoline-chain-lube-spray/ http://www.inmotiontrials.com/product/putoline-chain-wax-boiling-type/ I just use the spray but you can still boil your chain if so desired!

  9. You got a spare like i did in my kit.
  10. As you say they are modern built classic style machines but they are not a classic Pre 65, Twin shock or mono shock bike. Answer, Have a class for this type of special build bike like the ACU have very kindly (But wrongly in my opinion) set up a class 7a & 7b just for the odd bike in the Sammy Miller series or ride modern trials on the easier routes.... The rules are clear on the Twinshock championship web site as they are on the ACU sites for all the various championships..... http://www.twinshockchampionship.org.uk/classes.html I don't know why a few want to cause so much trouble for such hard working organizers & officials. If the bike don't fit, then ride an event & class that it does. In some cases, If a trial is not over subscribed i guess it's OK to ride on a no award and no points basis like Mr Bliss did on Sunday! Much as i appreciate the skill, engineering & commitment to make a more cost effective bike but it's not right to think that just because they have 2 shocks it can be classified in a pre 65 or twin shock classic championship class which is governed like all forms of sport with a set of rules and regulations. Oh, If Toni Bou or Mick Andrews turned up on it, If i was running the event, then yes they would be excluded.... Why wouldn't they be? Just wish people would get on and enjoy this wonderful sport without all this bickering and politics from what can only be a tiny tiny minority.
  11. Super day out. Very well organised and quick results. Don't understand all this dislike of certain bikes. Not sure why it's necessary to discriminate against someones choice of bike to ride. Not everyone can afford a pre65 and it's nice for the trail bikes to get a ride out. You never know, someone may buy a Pre 65 mount one day. I rode my twin shock trials bike and have no problem with sidecars, pre 65 or trail bikes riders.. It's nice they made the numbers up as only 50 odd pre65's. Doubt if it would have been viable to run with so few! I hear that some had entries had been returned as priority given to the classics. ... At the end of the day it's down to the club to decide what classes they want and if you don't like them guess it's best not to enter! Please, the few stop moaning about trivia!
  12. X light so much softer and grip better. X11 will last longer and cheaper

  14. No entry list, Just get your number & start time in the post.
  15. http://www.rockshocks.co.uk/ Rockshocks for the simple reason you can buy all the parts or send them back for a service or repair if ever needed plus they are very very good shocks.
  16. http://www.vmcc.net/aboutus/library/RegistrationNumbers.aspx Start with the dating certificate / certificate of newness as without that your stuck. The link to the VMCC (Vintage Motor Cycle Club) above takes all the trouble away by downloading the necessary form, http://www.vmcc.net/media/file/SOS%20form.pdf taking some pictures or rubbings and let them sort it. The DVLA will now only accept dating letters from certain organisations / owners clubs listed on the DVLA web site. The cost is £17.00 for VMCC members & £27.50 for non members. Prices at other clubs varies. See link below for DVLA approved owners clubs. https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/399932/V765X1_280115.pdf. Another option is to use an agent for all the paperwork. Try http://www.dvlaadvice.co.uk/. I can't recommend as I've never used them for the full service but for £95.00 it may solve a lot of heartache and head scratching! Don't get lazy and go for a "Q" plate as your regret it when it comes to insuring your bike. Insurers just double, sometimes treble the premiums when you can actually find one that excepts "Q" plates. Next for your NOVA1 application which is the paperwork that the DVLA & HMRC use to establish if any duty / VAT is liable on the bike. Have a read on this link. http://fbhvc.co.uk/about-us/news/_article/22/hmrc-issues-guidelines-for-registering-restoration-projects-imported-prior-to-nova/ . You could use a firm that does this online. It cost's between £40 & £50 but avoids many delays. http://www.dvlaadvice.co.uk/. Order on line a V55/5 application form and the relevant completion guide as these take a week or so to arrive as they can't be downloaded. https://forms.dft.gov.uk/order-dvla-forms/ The VMCC site link above has some tips on what fields to fill in and leave blank. Note. On Type Approval put "Exempt Trials Motorcycle". Once you have all this paper work get the bike MOT'd on it's frame number if it's over 3 years old. Best have a daylight one for trials. No lights, speedo or number plate required. Must have a working horn. £15.00 will get you a 9 volt battery Mega Horn on ebay that you just strap to the bars. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/111551017572?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=108&chn=ps&device=c&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0-L&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=108&ff19=0 Then get the bike insured on the frame number. Most company's will insure for 2 weeks then cancel your policy if you don't go back to them with a registration number. I use Bennetts or MSM http://www.msminsurance.co.uk/personal-insurance/motor/motorcycle-trials-enduro as they seem to know what a trial bike is a have good rates for on road competition use. http://www.bennetts.co.uk/bennettsbikeinsurance/?SRC=161855699&gclid=CIeXv6rV-sMCFQLMtAodWy0A5A. Carole Nash do insure bikes third party fire & theft only by frame number for 12 months but is usually more expensive. http://www.carolenash.com/get-a-quote/quote/dna_promotion/index_ooo.html?gclid=CO6lt5PM-8MCFUHItAodTzkA0A Make copies then send recorded/registered delivery to the DVLA at Swansea, The V55/5 form, MOT certificate (If applicable), Insurance policy, dating letter / certificate of newness, NOVA reference from HMRC, Money for tax if bike is after Jan 74 about £37.00 for 12 months for a 250cc & first registration fee which is £55 at present. Proof of address like a Gas or Electricity bill. Wait about 10 days or less and if all well you will get a V5 in the post with a age related registration number. If the bike is pre January 1st 1974 the road tax will be Free of charge as it's classed as an historic vehicle. If the frame number was previously on the DVLA data base & had been stolen, expect a visit from your local Bobby! Don't forget to call the insurer with the registration number you've been allocated and get a number plate made up. Good flexi ones on ebay in what ever size you want...http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=flex+number+plate&_from=R40%7CR40&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xflexi+number+plate.TRS0&_nkw=flexi+number+plate&_sacat=0 A wireless mountain bike speedo can be added if you really want to be totally road legal, Most don't bother. Note. Other bikes .... If the bike manufacture / importer is still in business like Gasgas UK for Gassers and Beta UK for Betas etc etc just contact them first and they will for a small fee produce the necessary paper work for dates and NOVA, (Notification of Vehicle Arrival). If the bike was a personal import then they will be unable to help and you should follow the steps in this guide. Total to road register a bike using the service providers is roughly £28.00 for the VMCC, £50.00 for NOVA1 agent & £55.00 first registration fee totaling £133.00. If you bypass the NOVA agent and deal with HMRC yourself you could save the £50.00 but this could add 2 - 4 weeks onto the process as they are slow but usually helpful. You should also be aware that recent personal imports that have not been NOVA'd will be liable to Tax / VAT / Import duty that must be paid in full before you can complete the registration. The MOT (if applicable), Insurance and road fund licence are yearly payments that you would have to pay anyway. Occasionally the authorities will be asked to do a spot check on the bike in question before accepting the registration, Beware, make sure the frame / engine numbers are correct on your application!
  17. Don't bother unless it's a old rim !!
  18. You do not need to have a legal sized number plate for an MOT.. As long as it's readable. May seem daft but that's the way it is... May not be road legal but fine for an MOT. The link i gave on the above post is just an example of a cheap and quick way to buy a suitable trials number plate, You have many choices of sizes available.. I use 6 x 4. I know it's not road legal but better than those silly sticky numbers that some guys put on top of the mudguard.!
  19. No, Not required for MOT. Speedo not required either.

  23. This may help http://www.vmcc.net/media/file/SOS%20form.pdf
  24. I don't think many are, But used Bennetts for the last few years and no problems. Most insurers won't touch them.
  25. Bennetts £85 fully comp for a 2011 Gasser & £75 for my Fantic. Be daft not to insure it at such cheap price.
