Thanks for that Telecat. Like you say, it sounds like minor injuries. Although getting the roof cut off your car is not good.

Spent all day doing this and the intial results seem to be superb. Didn't have time to do a full test on it before I had to go out on the road bike for "bike night" but will do that tomorrow. The plates were FULL of glue. There was only the odd part that had any silver metal bits showing through between the tabs, the rest were just covered in black glue between all the tabs. They definately all seemed a lot worse that the examples in the instructions document. Thanks though for the 'How To'. Will tell you what it is like after tomorrows proper test.

Was on my way up to Swaine Woods first thing this morning for a couple of hours riding practice but when I got to the bottom of the long hill where the woods are the road was closed off at the bottom and the top and you could see there had been some sort of bad accident halfway up, just abouts where the entrance to the wood is. It must have been pretty nasty as the entire road was shut off both ways by police, and there were at least 2 fire engines there, possibly more as I could see an awful lot of firemen. Needless to say I didn't do any riding as I couldn't actually get to the woods. Just had to turn around and go home. Anybody know what happened? Hope it wasn't as bad as it looked from a distance.

Looking forward to riding for a couple of hours tomorrow

I would just image though that for most people a van is totally out of the question financially. Unless you are 50 and have a zillion years no claims, then insurance quotes are through the roof. When my bike is worth

Just got myself some small files and should be getting delivery of my Black & Decker "Dremmel" type tool in the next couple of days so going to attempt this mod next week I hope.

It was great fun but feeling the pain of muscles I never knew I had. Just tried keeping with basics of riding round and round on the flatest parts I could find and trying some slow turns round trees and figure 8's and stuff. Really enjoyed myself though.
Nope. I did check out the spec for the car on the nose weight though and the bike itself is just under that, but with the weight of the rack aswell it is probably a little too heavy according to the spec sheet. But there was no problem whatsoever with the driving and handling of the car. From what I understand though, unless you have a big 4x4, something like a Land Rover or Shogun or something, then pretty much everything else exceeds the nose weight, even on things like Mondeo's and big family size cars.
Surely this is the same whether your bike is on a rack or a trailer? Definitely will be keeping my eyes open though. Thanks for the heads-up.
Where did that come from? And what do you mean exactly?

I got myself a towbar and adult bike rack from Autowbars (My link) in Bradford and can definately recommend the guys there. I got the car booked in and dropped it off with them on the day. I then went straight over the road to the lovely cafe and had some breakfast and several cups of coffee to pass the time. Then 2 hours later the towbar was on, the bike rack fitted, and the number board, number plate, and strappings, all ready. They gave me a run down on how to fit it all together and also some tips on strapping the bike down.
Then yesterday was the test day for using the bike on it and I took the bike out to Swaine Woods in Horsforth for my first ever time riding a trials bike. I lifted the front wheel up and in, then grabbed the rear swingarm and lifted the backend up. Got the strappings and tried to remember how the guy at autowbar's had suggested to strap it up, then tied up the loose ends of the straps and this was the result.
It got me the 20 miles or so to Swaine Woods without a problem and the same coming back. It all went really well. The bike was still securely strapped down at the end of each trip and I was very happy with it.

Took my 2006 Rev 3 out for my first ever ride yesterday and found it very difficult to utilise the rear brake. It just seemed very awkwardly positioned to use it as when I riding along. I had to bend my foot right upwards and turn it right in to the bike to even try find the pedal. It seemed like the pedal wasn't logically positioned. Now it may just be me not being used to trials bikes, but it just didnt seem right.
So what I want to know is; can you buy a longer pedal that sticks further out so is easier to find with your foot while riding?

Just got my 2006 250cc Beta Rev 3 and was having a bit of a closer look around it yesterday. As I am quite a big lad the rear sinks down quite a bit when I stand on the bike. Is there a way of stiffening it up or extending the shock somehow so that I can try make sure it doesnt keep rubbing the exhaust on the tyre etc?
-
Just got my 2006 Beta 250cc Rev 3 this week and had my first little play about with it this afternoon and until it got very well warmed up, as soon as you put it in to gear with the clutch pulled right in, it just lurched forward and you couldnt keep it still with the clutch lever pulled right in. So I have been on here searching about it as I am totally new to trials bikes and never had anything like this with my road bikes, and I see that this sort of clutch issue is a common occurance. Found this thread though and read through the instructions and it sounds easy enough to do and is very well explained. Going to give it a try in the next couple of weeks and see what happens (going to go give the bike a proper ride though this week before I start the lengthy process).

Cheers for that heads-up Mikey about Tong. Maybe this Saturday would be an ideal day for me to go to Swaine Woods if most people will be at Tong. That way I can make a fool of myself with nobody else about. Just going to have to see how my time goes this week, but I hope to get out for my first ride on it on Friday or Saturday this coming week. Just very nervous about riding a bike off-road and stood up on the pegs. Strange really when I am used to much more dangerous speeds tear-arsing around the roads on sportsbikes.

Got my first proper trials bike today; a 2006 Beta 250cc rev 3

Just got my 2006 Beta 250cc Rev 3 today and noticed the exhaust silencer is worn through slightly on the inside (wheel side) where the tyre must have rubbed against it. What can I do to repair this? Or where do I get a new silencer from?
I have seen things about this being a common problem and solutions being things like bending out the mounting bracket or packing it out with washers and having looked at mine it is now packed out with 3 or 4 washers, but I may try bend the bracket out a little further. Just want to know if there is a way I can correct the damage already caused.

Cant wait to get my first proper trials bike tomorrow

I recently got myself a cheap 1996 Gas Gas JTR 270. With it came a letter from Gas Gas saying the bike was indeed a JTR 270 and it was 256cc. Could this be the same sort of thing that although they call it a "270" it is infact a 250 engine or something? - I am a newbie to trials bikes though so dont take that as gospel, just a suggestion.

Cheers for that TrialsUK. It wont be this Saturday that I am up there but with any luck I will be there next Saturday.

Just getting in to trials after years of road riding, and am getting my first trials bike this weekend hopefully. Then getting a towbar and bike rack fitted next week and hoping to be off in Swaine Woods in Horsforth with the bike that Saturday. But I wondered if any of the Horsforth Trials Club guys on here would be interested in showing me some of the basic ropes and stuff up at Swaine Woods on the odd occasion so that I can try learn some stuff then go away and practice. Anyone interested?

Cant wait to get my first trials bike at the weekend

Beta UK were great in helping me. I just emailed them with the frame number and they came straight back to me the same day to confirm the frame number was legit and to confirm the year of the bike and where it was supplied to. Very good service.

I have done a search on the forum for details about the differences in 2 stroke oil and I understand that "you get what you pay for" and that fully synthetic is better than semi. But what I arent sure of is whether I should follow the Beta instructions for my 2006 250 Rev 3 and use 70ml of semi synthetic oil in 5 litres of petrol, or whether I should take on board peoples advice on the forum from other threads and use fully synthetic as it is supposed to be better stuff???

Just had a look on there but the PDF files on the site wont open for me for some reason, they are just coming up with blank pages. I have emailed them though so will see if I get a response from that. Thanks for the info though t-shock 250.

I purposely didnt put it on the post as I wanted to ensure I got genuine answers if people could do it for me and tell me what it was. But seen as you are the only person to reply and have asked, it is a Beta Rev3.

Is there a way you can check on the year and model of a bike from the frame and engine numbers? Am hoping to get my bike this weekend and want to check on the year of the bike as I dont know enough about them to recognise one year from another. These are the numbers if someone can tell me what it is:
frame number: zd3t3010150001036
engine: zd3b9t501843cl29

Just had a look on there but couldn't find it at all.
Can anyone comment on which of the training DVD's is best; Ryan Young or Dan Thorpe?
